Hi guys,
Before I buiy more stuff I thought I'd post up a temporary list of my Iron Warriors for your review.
I'm looking for a fairly fluffy list for Iron Warriors, but I'd still like to at least have some chance of winning. As I have zero experience with 40k apart from fluff and some things I picked up around the local shop, some expert advice is in order.

A couple of things first though.
The list is supposed to adhere to the Iron Warriors fluff as siege specialists and expert close-combat fighters (still working on the close combat part) and someone told me there's no better weapon to break open bunkers than Meltas. So they are in each unit in the form of combi-meltas.
As for looking cool and for clearing debris (supposedly) every tank in the army gets a dozer blade if possible.
Also, I read that Iron Warriors tend to favor multiples of three for squad numbers, hence the 9 man strong squads.

Things that are off limits (they're not going out of the list):
-Dozer Blades
-The Vindicator

All the rest is up for review and can be changed, but try to keep the fluff part in mind and I'll be very grateful. :)

Well I'm no expert since I haven't got around to a game yet but I do write a lot of lists and do a lot of reading on the B&C forums so I might be some help.

I'll post the Iron Warriors list I have so you can see how another person who tends to flavor fluff see's the Iron Warriors.

I will note my list is based on the storming forces they send in once the breach they knocked in the walls is forced open.

Iron Warriors

Chaos Terminator Lord
Lightning Claws
130 Points

4 Chaos Terminators
Chain Fist (x1); Reaper Autocannon (x1)
Chaos Glory Icon

Chaos Glory Icon; Meltagun (x2);
Aspiring Champion
Combi-Melta; Power Fist
Rhino; Extra armour
270 Points

9 Chaos Space Marines
Chaos Glory Icon; Meltagun (x2)
Aspiring Champion
Comi-Melta; Power Fist
Rhino; Extra Armour
270 Points

Predator
70 Points

Predator
70 Points

Total 1,000 Points

For my chaos marine squads I fit in two melta guns per squad plus a combi-melta and power fist on the champion I also equip all my units with a chaos glory icon for the reroll on moral checks it grants and give the rhinos extra armour to help them make it across the field.

The terminator lord and unit of terminators I find fitting for Iron Warriors even if a lot of others don't think they work very good other then in 3 man squads with combi-meltas so to help them I gave them a chain fist and reaper autocannon terminator in there as well.

The predators had to be in because of the whole siege thing so I thought it was fitting to at least have some more tanks.

Now as for your list the dozer blades are useful if your constantly driving your tanks right through terrain and need that reroll for the difficult terrain test if you fail it.

I'm wondering where your lord is hanging out though because there doesn't seem to be any place for him to ride at all.

You have one more squad of troops then my list which is good gives you more room to get objectives.

I assume the vindicator has the havoc launcher to give it a long range template and so a weapon destroyed result won't make it completely useless for shooting.

I would say your list looks pretty solid to me but I think your going to find people will ask you why you have dozer blades on every vehicle when you could get other stuff with the points not spent on them.

I think it looks fine, but the dozer blade on the predator is kind of pointless, as it's likely to just sit still and fire it's guns every turn. I'd consider dropping the defiler, the havoc launcher on the vindicator, and the dozer blade on the predator. Then, throw in a second vindicator, and meltaguns in all of the marine squads. And while you're at it, combi meltas on the rhinos, because then every one of your squads has 4 meltaguns, making even imperial guard feel inadequate :D

I should've noted that my squads are 9 strong including the champion, not 10 strong in total, so I can add only 1 meltagun per squad. I can upgrade them to 10 each and circumvent the multiples of three fetish they seem to have by saying there's three squads of 10 which means 30 counting the lord as one of the 30. Should be okay.
I'm a bit worried about adding massive amounts of special weapons to each squad. I've always been of the less is more principle in WHFB, going for numbers over heavily equiped squads, so I'm a bit worried about that.

Not a fan of the Terminator models. I'll convert some once I can afford some forge world ones.

The lord is riding with one of the Squads. They were only 9 man strong first which allowed him to drive with them in the Rhino. I'll upgrade 2 of the Squads to 10 men and add him to the remaining squad

I originally put it on there because I had 15 points left. Somebody did mention the weapon destroyed thing to me though, so I'm kind of thinking about leaving it on.

They're only 5 points and they look damn cool. :D

You're probably right about the Dozer Blade on the Predator. :) I'll think about it. If I'm 5 points short in the revised list, I'll go.
The Havoc Launcher was just an afterthought first, but I'm thinking about leaving it on or changing it for the cheapest alternative to have another weapon destroyed option.
And isn't loading up on massive amounts of meltaguns considered cheese? Or is there no such thing in 40K?

Cheers, Wolfie

In 5th edition no one seems to frown on massive amounts of melta gun because everyone seems to be using mech heavy armies which is basically tons of trops in transport tanks then long range tanks and such so no not cheesy to give yourself a chance at wreaking their rides and long range support.

Yeah I kind of ignored the whole 3s thing because it was far from verified according to the article so it let me fit in two melta guns in each squad and combi-meltas only being single shot then that part is gone means I have at least three shots to destroy a tank if I don't I can assault it and nail it with the powerfist on the champions.

The thing about 40k is the elite armies tend to have a small amount of numbers especially if there in power armour so it's not so bad to give them a few extras.

I don't mind the terminator models personally but each person has their own view on them.

It just dawns on me that I think your squads are already ten strong since since the 10th guy would be upgraded to an aspiring champion meaning 9 normal ones and a champion unless you meant to write it as 8 and aspiring champion which would make it 9 since the 9th guy is the guy upgraded to champion.

The cheapest option for extra weapon is the twin linked bolter which matches the range of the demolisher cannon on the vindicator.

Another option if you want to keep the extra gun on the vindicator is combi plasma, since vindicators are made for anti anyrhing, and plasma can help down terminators (also matches the demo cannon's range). And trust me, if someone calls chaos marines cheese, they haven't seen 11 razorback space wolves.
