Played my first game today! I lost, but only just. He sniped my Necro with death magic, and in one very bad round of combat, caught my Vampire in some combat res. But my Terrorgheist already wiped out the rest of his army!

I'm looking at 1500 points now, and one thing I did realise - At 1000 and 1500 points, there aren't many magical weapons, and frankly that's awesome! So with the wish to add in a little ethereal, as well as more casting power (I found a level 2 and a level 1 at 1000 to be very lackluster. I struggled to get anything off. I also really could've done with a dispel scroll, which is why it's an auto include now) But I'd love to know what you guys thing of this list. I'm having another game tomorrow, so I'll play around with it again tomorrow night based on how the game goes!

Lords (270)

Master Necromancer - Talisman of Preservation (4+ ward), Dispel Scroll, Level 4 - 270

I think this list is awesome (probably because it's similar to what I would take at 1500 :D )

There's not much I would change. I mean, your Vampire now has a 1+ AS, 5+ ward, and at 1500 your 2+ AS knights should help reduce losses from nearly all combats.

My only concern would be can your necromancer keep up with the Knights to provide support, and stay within 12 inches to ensure they can march, though hopefully they're charging by turn 2.

I personally might use a bigger unit of DWs with a doom wolf instead of 2 × 5, but there are merits to both.

Anyway, not really giving you any advice here! Hope to read a battle rep on your next fight.

Are you sure the math on the point costs is right?
When I go through it I come out with much higher totals then you have, for pretty much everything you gave a number for.
I fell like I must be missing something here.

Ah sorry, there's a few mistakes here yeah. I don't have my army book on me atm, but I'll go through tomorrow and recount everything. Admittedly I was incredibly tired when I wrote the list haha.

I didn't end up having the game today, so going to try for one on Monday I think!

Off the top of my head (no army book):

The overall troops total is right, but the Skeleton subtotal is from an earlier draft, and should be. I know I mispriced the banshee by 5 points, and so there should be 5 points added on there. The Master Neco is right, I'm almost certain. However I can't check the Vamp or Black Knights from memory, so I'll sort that tomorrow.

Sorry for the poor points checking guys D:

This looks a bit like my 1500 pts list and I had a blast with it. A hero vampire with black knight support, teaming up with a terrorgheist is scary at this pts lvl :)

My apologies guys, been a bit under the weather lately so not done too much. But I re-totaled the list, and based on my experiences today (basically the banshee not really doing much with her scream (most likely due to bad rolling on my part), or in combat, I opted to swap her out with a Wight King on foot.

The game was a close one, and it was unfortunate that my TG got zapped by a skaven spell (take an I test, and be removed if you fail) and I forgot about my dispel scroll :(

But the Necromancer fought it out to the last breath, and was the very last model to fall, which I loved! I also dominated the magic phase most of the time, which was wonderful. The Vampire didn't do much, but that was mainly due to the high number of War Machines, and the fact that my TG fell too soon.

So with that in mind, I threw this list together, to replay the same person tomorrow:

Lords (270)

Master Necromancer - Talisman of Preservation (4+ ward), Dispel Scroll, Level 4 - 270

Heroes (360)

Vampire - Barded Nightmare, Lance, Heavy Armour, Shield, Talisman of Endurance (5+ ward), Ironcurse Icon, Level 2, Red Fury - 255

Wight King - Enchanted Shield, Sword of Battle (+1A)- 105

Core - 380

39 Skeleton Warriors, Full Command, Banner of Swiftness (+1M)- 240

20 Zombies - XX

5 Dire Wolves - XX

5 Dire Wolves - XX

Special - 264

9 Black Knights - Barding, Lances, Full Command - 264

Rare - XXX

Terrorgeist - XXX

Total Points Vampire Counts : 1499

I had considered it, but I think your math's off mate (I'm one to talk...) he's actually 80 points more :( And I'm struggling to find those 80 points, haha.

I've had two good games with this list now! I annihilated a dwarf list due to some bad rolling on his part - almost every unit had Curse of Years on it, and it was just ticking over and over :P
