1500 pts vs Skaven or Lizardmen

Here is my list for my battle tonight

Thoughts anyone?

I will be fighting HPA, clanrats, slaves mostly, with a grey seer I expect.

Flaming banner might help against the HPA!


Structure:

Master necro with zombies
2 necros and the vamp with the skellies
1 necro with the ghouls

Basically I will try and keep numbers up and buff off the CC in the magic phase!

Oh, and the vampire has 25 pts allotted for a magic sword of some kind. I havent got the book with me at the moment. But am thinking of using something +1 strength wise, to help kill the HPA.

EDIT:

Its worth mentioning that in previous games the 13th spell has dominated, hence no units are under 25 (as you cant get higher than that on the killy dice for 13th).

I do have 5 Black Knight models and 10 Grave Guard, but they have proved less than useful in previous games... need more models!

I think part of the trouble you are having is you have a lot of points invested in core. One thing about VC is that our core really doesn't perform very well. I would definitely recommend getting some more GG or black knights as they will make a very sound addition to your army at the moment.

The flaming banner is a very good thing to have against the HPA, if it suffers a single flaming wound it is unable to come back to life due to too horrible to die.

It seems you might have calculated your points incorrectly, a master necromancer with level 4 is 200pts on the dot.

If you are going up against a grey seer I would recommend putting the balefire on that corpse cart of yours. the -1 to casting is actually a really big impact and is often forgotten by your opponents when they determine how many power dice to use.

my current advice would be this:
- drop the necromancer without the dispel scroll
- buy a talsiman of preservation for the master necro
- put the balefire on the corpse cart
- buy heavy armour, enchanted shield and sword of +2 strength

(you'll probably have to trim down a few skeletons in addition to dropping the extra necro to do this)

Assuming you don't want to proxy models:

You might want to consider making the 25 zombie unit 2 units of 20 zombies (only 120 points) to manipulate the enemies movement to support your block of ghouls. This might mean dropping a necro, but more "bodies" (for lack of a better word) can really help make you shape the battlefield to your liking.

Thanks for the comments.

I did win the game against the skaven, mainly through getting invocation off when it was really needed - and the ghouls bravely holding up a 40 strong unit unit of Death Frenzied slaves in the front, and a HPA in the side. (Lasted 3 turns before they all died - good ghoulies!)

I do agree it needs to be more killy, so I will change the list around a bit for the next game of 1500.

Till then - I am doing a 2000pt game against the lizardmen next week.

Im pretty much going to do the above list:

Plus:
5 Black Knights
20 Grave Guard
Better magic items on vamps and necro lord (probably the stuff mentioned above by you handy people!)

Minus
1 necro

Hopefully that will do ok. I will let you know how it goes!

I forgot, honourably mention to Flappy the TG, he flank charged a unit of Plague monks with a plague priest and plague furnace... and ate them all! Gotta love TG's!

Always good to see the Vampires triumph!

Regarding 20 GG's my own experience is that they only work when you get them 35+ with great weapons and field them in horde. Haven't seen anybody disagreeing with this as of yet but I might be wrong.

And if you're going the Black knight route, get at least 10 to 12 and get some mounted vampires in there to add killiness and up their survival. 5 black knights is not enough to do much but redirect and die and for that a spirit host is cheaper. I also agree with sunny on the GG.

Often 5 Hexies well give you far more tactical opportunities than 5 Black Knights for almost the same cost.
