Okay, I think I got the gist of the 8th Edition to make a reasonable list so I do hope you guys will make sure my list is legal.

Lords
Vampire Lord (440 Points)
+ 1 Magic Level
+ Forbidden Lore
+ Dread Knight
+ Infinite Hatred
+ Blood Drinker
+ Walach's Blood Hauberk
+ Black Periapt
Notes: Combat/Caster Lord to go with Blood Knights.

Heroes
Vampire (300 Points)
+ Dread Knight
+ Infinite Hatred
+ Battle Standard Bearer: The Drakenhof Banner
Notes: Combat/Caster Hero to go with Blood Knights. I think the Drakenhof Banner would be more useful than the Flag of Blood Keep. It also frees up point to have more Blood Knights.

Vampire (200 Points)
+ Dark Acolyte
+ Avatar of Death: Shield
+ Tomb Blade
+ The Flayed Hauberk
Notes: Another Caster/Combat Hero to go with my humongous skeleton warriors regiment. Tomb Blade will help regenerate more skellies (alongside Invocation of Nehek) as fast (or even faster than my opponent can kill).

Core Units
Skeleton Warriors (495 Points)
50 Skeletons
+ Spears
+ Full Command
+ Banner of the Endless Nightmare
Notes: Taking advantage of the new horde rule. I can attack up to 4 ranks if I'm not mistaken so that's 40 skeletons attacking. Another rank of 10 skeletons to take advantage of the Banner of Endless Nightmare as well as to be use as casualties before it hit the ranks that can actually attack. I would have put 60 skeletons but I needed points for the 3rd unit.

Zombie Horde
20 Zombies (92 Points)
+ FC
Notes: Needed a 3rd unit that's cheap.

Rare Units
Blood Knights (470 Points)
8 Blood Knights
+ Musician
+ Standard Bearer
Notes: My Death Star unit that can kill [almost] anything it touches.

Pretty nice list, the Bloodstar reloaded :ghost: I think it's quite fine as it is, if you want to stick to the concept, the only change I'd make is ttry to free some points to up the size of the BK unit a bit, one kill and it's unable to break ranks, I now that it won't need that ability against most units, but you don't want to take the risk of not breaking the enemy on the charge.

Save yourself 20pts and drop the Avatar of Death upgrade, The Flayed Hauberk cannot make use of the shield. Otherwise it looks like it could be a interesting list, a little light on units but interesting none the less.

Yay~! Response~!

One thing about playing at 2,000-Point level, you're really constrained. So I will go with the list until I have a little more experience with the 8th. I'll keep your comments in mind.

@ Mikael.K: Nah, just minimum of 25% of your points into your Core units and minimum 3 ranked units in the entire army list.

I like the list. Would a Wight King BSB not be better though? Better survivability and with limited power dice not sure you need a third caster.

245 Wight King with Barded Steed, Battle Standard Bearer: The Drakenhof Banner
180 Vampire Hero with Dark Acolyte, Tomb Blade, The Flayed Hauberk
Can add a naked Wight King or give the Hero Lord of the Dead to add even more Skeletons!

What lore are you planning for the Lord? Also you can get a straight up 4+ Ward save for the same cost as the Blood Hauberk in the new common magic items (which I assume we will get access too) or a 5+ Ward and better armour (e.g Helm with 2+ Ward Save vs Fire).

Aye, I really thought of having a Wight King instead of a Vampire but then the whole "If you miscast a spell, you can't continue to cast spells" bit is kinda scary so I thought I make sure I have a backup Spell Caster just in case my Lord fumbled with his spells.

As for what Lore will my Lord use; I'm thinking Metal or Heaven if those haven't really changed in the 8th Edition. I may have to look in the Rulebook first.

Wow, they give a 4+ Ward Save for Common Magic Items? I really need to get me the Rulebook but alas, I live on a piece of land which looks like a penis that 99% of the world don't know existed.

But thanks for asking those questions; I nearly forgotten that there are stuff in the 8th Edition Rulebook that I need to check out. Also, FAQ/Errata is needed for VC.

I am pretty sure that this is illegal in 8th ed Because its all percentile based so in 2000pts you may only have 25% total in heroes and Lords so you may only have 500pts of heroes/Lords unfortunately. (that's how we got nerfed.):(
unless I am mistaken in which case some one please correct me.
and you dont need 3 core units anymore just minamum 25% of your army so you dont need that extra block of zombies if you dont want them.(more skellies)

From what I found Metal, gets better the higher the enemy's armor save. ( Roll to wound = Unmodified armor save, so 2+ AS means 2+ to wound )

Heavens has a really powerful basic spell that reduces the hit of anything that uses BS to shoot by -1, and of anything that doesn't use BS to shoot can only do so on a 4+.

And a buff that makes your unit reroll all 1's to hit, wound and armour save rolls, or the opposite with 6's for the enemy.

List is fine, you can have 25% heroes AND 25% Lords.

HOLY CRAP AWESOME!!! thanks for correcting me

gotta have minimum of 3 core.

Gotta have a minimum of 3 UNITS.

Not core. Anything thats not a character, as long as it doesn't say "does not count toward the core requirement" or whatever.

So it could be 1 HUGE unit of core (costing 25%) and 2 Vargulfs if you wanted.

Just not corpse carts, bats or wolves. They don't count as your 25% core, or your 3 units, or anything.

Hey, very nice list! I have to try that out in the tourneys future. ;)

Wight King is waay better BSB than Vampire, because of his toughness, cheapiness and Killing Blow. The Drakenhof Banner is very important for that unit, and T4 and 2 Wounds don't protect the bearer very much.

And yeah, you have to have 3 units, they don't need to be core units. :)

Aside from the afore-mentioned AoD (shield) not stacking with Flayed Hauberk...

Magical hand weapons (e.g. Tomb Blade) and mundane shields (e.g. from AoD) no longer stack for saves. The hand weapon and shield BOTH need to be either magical or mundane.

Is a list with only 3 units really going to be that much fun to play with?

To get parry, the way I read it is they both have to be mundane.

But you still get the basic +1 save (if you don't already have one that can't be modified a'la Flayed Hauberk) even if your weapon is magic.

As for the list. Its pretty strong. See if you can get some magic resist on that unit though. I was just thinking about how a single spell from the Lore of Metal will crush your bloodstar in 1 casting. (Wound on a 2+, no armour save, no regen). You can get some cheap magic resistance on banners and on heroes/kastellan in the unit. (I'm not sure if it stacks, though)

@ Originman - sorry, quite right. Magic weapons essentially negate your ability to get a parry ward save.

tombblades is a rule not a magic item, grave guard can parry. They have the option for greatweapons which it nowhere states have killing blow - but they do as its an ability of the unit not the sword. In the same manner as DE excecutioners can KB with there hand weapons and there axe
