Last time i played against my buddy's dwarfs he went crazy with anti-magic to shut me down so ive stepped away from the motba/invo spam list, and go figure he shows up with a completely differant list this time lol.

So heres what we played with

My list

Lord- rolled raise dead and VHD
ghoulkin, aod: gw, hatred, flying
4+ ward, silver armor

Vamp- rolled Gaze of Nagash
hatred, aod: add hw, flayed haub, dawnstone

Vamp
forbidden lore: death, power scroll

ghouls x30 (x2 units)

zombies x20

GG x21
standard, gw's, barrows

vargy x2

his list

Lord (3+ save, 4+ ward, No armor save, flaming, strikes first
runesmith (3 dispels)
2 blocks of gw warriors
block of hammerers
unit of 15 thunderers, unit of 15 cross bows
stone thrower w/ accuracy and flaming
bolt thrower with flaming and + str
gyrocopter

the blocks he took were quite large and they were all deployed 7 wide.

Deployment looked like this

with the gyro hiding behind the dwarf ruin.

Turns coming up

We decided to just do a pitched battle.
We roll for turns, I win ( for the first time ever against him :P )

Before my turn both ghoul units surge forward a full 8 inches. (love ghoul kin )

Vamps T1-

I managed to bait his hammerers out of their usual center-of-the-battle line deployment by threatening his flank with dual vargys. Excellent. muahaha

Both Varghulfs book it 16 Inches to the right refusing the left flank entirely.

the wall of zombies deployed 20 wide march forward, an inch behind them come the grave guard. Both ghoul units advance to mid table, hatred vamp leaves the ghoul unit and trails just behind a ghoul block ready to charge the Gyro should it venture too close.

Having nothing to heal and not needing any more zombies at the moment i go about spamming Vanhels to move my line closer. I roll big for power dice with a 10. two attempts dispelled , two get off, the zombies and gg march forward, and my lord IF's a third vanhels, this one moving a ghoul unit forward into charge range for next turn. the miscast costs me 3 graveguard in base to base with my lord but thankfully nothing else. This is the last turn of the game i risk miscasting with the lord :P

Wow. turn 1 my entire army is midfield or closer.

Dwarf 1-

The Dwarf blocks inch forward as do the thunderers. the Gyro as predicted moves along the ruin to the ghouls flank getting ready to roast them.
The hammerers move towards the center having lost the vargs as a potential target.
He concentrates fire on the closest ghoul unit (rightmost)
His bolt thrower drops 5 in a single shot, the Gyro toasts 7, the crossbows get 4 more. The stone thrower misses despite the reroll.

Vamps T2-

Ghouls charge into the crossbowman and lose 2 to a stand and shoot.
The Hatred vamp charges the Gyro which flees, the move takes her into the dwarf ruin.
Zombies march forward up onto the hill in the center and the GG follow right behind them. The ghoul unit containing my nuclear vamp moves forward but angled behind the zombies to avoid being charged this turn.

The hammers now facing towards the center i walk a varg back over to the wood, forcing him to face him again with the hammers or leave his warmachines open next turn, the other continues to the other side of the board and positions itself next to the center most ghoul block.
I roll 10 dice again for the magic phase.
2 invo attempts from the hate vamp on the ghouls in hand to hand are dispelled, a third gets off and raises a single ghoul. ick.
Vanhels on the zombies is dispelled. The hate vamp furious with the cowardly Gyro for denying her a meal screams an incantation and hurls a bolt of black magic at the machine blowing it apart. I think thats the first time ive ever seen Gaze of nagash do something worthwhile.

Combat sees some ghouls rip a few crossbowman apart, and lose a couple in turn. The dwarves hold.

Dwarf T2-

Rather than have his unit baited back and forth the Dwarf lord decides to take matters into his own hands and leaves the hammerers, having them continue towards the center while he sticks around to deal with the hulking beast stalking around behind the wood.

A unit of warriors charge into the zombie wall and the 2nd moves forward to threaten the GG flank once the zombies are cleared.
The stone thrower misses again despite its reroll. The bolt thrower misses, the thunderers reposition themselves again having no shots on anything thanks to the hilltop combat and the dwarf blocks standing in their way.
the warriors hack apart two handfuls of zombies and when the dust settles after combat rez 2 zombies are left standing, the warriors losing not a single man.
The ghouls fighting the crossbowman drag a couple more down and lose a couple themselves. The dwarves hold.

Vamp T3-

SET US UP THE BOMB

Haha. Graveguard Charge into the warriors fighting the zombies, The vampire bomb leaves his escort and runs through my back line to stand between the hammerers and my GG's flank, the Varghulf hiding in the woods opposite the dwarf lord relocates behind the vampire. The intent here to be forcing at minimum two turns of melee on the hammerers before they could reach my GG's flank, which i thought should be more than enough time for the GG + lord to break a hole through the dwarven line.

The centermost ghoul unit walks right up to the unengaged warrior unit stopping an inch in front of them, the 2nd varghulf marches up to the warriors flank, stopping an inch away.

Hatred vamp, her gyro stomping duties complete joins the center ghoul unit.
Originally i had intended to do some VHD'ing into combat with the ghouls and following up next turn with a varg charge but i rolled a measly 5 for dice this turn. Ah well. I had bigger plans for those 5 dice...

The death lore vampire burns his power scroll and recites the incantation for the purple sun, throwing all of the armies power into the vortex the vampire sends a massive wave of death through the hammerers and off the table.
A few handfulls of dice later only 6 hammer toting dwarves remain in the elite unit. I would say that flank i was so worried about is pretty secure at this point XD. The miscast causes a str 10 hit to every model in btb with the solo vamp ( none ) and it drains the rest of my 0 power dice away. The horror.

Combat sees the warriors charged by the GG failing their fear test, I lose 3 Graveguard, no zombies , and leave 13 dwarves in a mangled heap. The dwarves break and are run down. the GG end up facing a potential flank charge from the thunderers, but frankly , i wasnt worried about it.
Ghouls fighting the crossbowman kill a couple , lose a couple, down to about 6 ghouls facing 8 or so dwarves.

Dwarf T-3

The solo dwarf lord attempts to charge the cackling vampire that had just destroyed most of his retinue but cant quite make it. The remaining hammerers however are a bit more eager to get to grips with him and easily make the charge. The warriors charge the ghouls standing in front of them.

Stone thrower misses the GG ( man that rune of accuracy needs to be looked at )
bolt thrower misses.
Thunderers blow away 3 gg.
The vampire challenges the hammerer champion to single combat.. and fluffs all his attacks. The champion wounds him, and he dies from combat res. lol that vamp totaly had it coming.
Hammerers overrun into the Varghulf saving him the trouble of charging 4 inches on my turn. :P
Ghouls fighting the warriors dont do too well, they take out two, the vamp kills none. All in all i lose 16 of the 30 ghouls. Ouchies.
Ghouls fighting cross bows lose 2.

Vamp T4-

The lord flys out of the GG charging into the thunderers, he kills 3 , they hold.
Graveguard charge the bolt thrower obliterate it and ready themselves for the stone thrower right behind it.
Varghulf #2 charges into the side of the warriors engaged with the ghouls and hatred vamp. I dump a few invos into the ghouls fighting the crossbowman and another into the hate vamps crew.
Ghouls+Hate vamp+ Vargy kill 9 warriors and lose 6 in return. The dwarves hold.
Ghouls fighting crossbowman kill none and lose 2.
The varghulf tears the rest of the hammerers apart.

Dwarf T4-

The dwarf lord charges into the varghulf to avenge his retinue, does two flaming wounds makes 3 saves and watches the Varghulf crumble to dust.
The vampire lord kills 2 more thunderers who continue to hold.
Ghouls+Vamp+Varg account for 12 dead warriors, losing 2 in return. The dwarves are quickly run down by the ghouls.

Vamp T5-

The remaining varghulf charges the thunderers fighting the lord, i summon a line of zombies at the edge of the thunderer unit to shield my lord from the dwarf lords charge keeping him out of the combat.
Ghouls drag down 3 more crossbowman leaving just the musician, and lose 3.
Graveguard destroy the stonethrower.
The lord and Vargy rip the rest of the thunderers apart.

Dwarf T5-

The Dwarf lord charges the vamp lord in classic fashion, doing no wounds and making all his saves.
ghouls lose 1 to the lone crossbowman who manages to live through the round.

Vamp T6-

The Forces of Darkness encircle a lone Dwarf lord, all eyes on their dark master, the final stand of a doomed hero. muahahaha. and stuff.
The two figures clash and the dwarf comes away wounded, he decides to try and leg it and.. well. Those forces of darkness? Yeah. They ate pretty well.

roll credits.

End Result

175 - 2000+.
Vamps.

couple thoughts about the game:
1. vanhels is still op.
in a game where youre only supposed to have 6 moves total taking "free turns" is still one of our biggest and most exploitable advantages. Ghoulkin further exaggerates this ( a happy coincidence our most killy core is also the quickest ), as does the varghulfs huge move with its single-model maneuverability through a game of blocks and lines.

2. powerscroll + forbidden lore = lol
Oh good lord.

Gotta love Purple Sun vs Dwarves Lol I used it against my friends Lizardman the other day and got it off twice against his Slann but he rolled a 1 both times!!!!:swear: Still killed a bunch of Saurus, that spell is absolutely sick. Anyway great write, up thanks for taking the time to share it with us xD

Nice fight rotting friend, nice fight!

I personally get hard times fighting Dwarves with my friend; they got all they need to be effective against VC (good shooting, great LD/Toughness and some nice dispel :swear: ). However those battles are fun!

Congratz then! I'll learn from that battle ;)
