Hi everyone!

Completely new to the forum and just downloaded battle scribe to try building my first list!

Would anyone be so kind as to offer criticism and optimization i have undoubtedly missed?

This is my first game of warhammer fantasy in a loooong time and have always loved undead especially vamps!

So far i have collected the following mini's:

1 x Vampire Lord
1 x Strigoi Ghoul King
1 x Master Necromancer
1 x Wight King
30 x Skeleton warriors
30 x Crypt Ghouls
40 x Zombies
1 x Terrorgheist/Zombie Dragon
5 x hexwraiths

The list below is kind of trying to use everything i have so i can get used to how units play and see where my weaknesses lie. I'm pretty sure i'm missing a Hammer unit but deciding on what kind of hammer i want is the purpose of this game (and ofc having fun!)

so without further a due, the fresh blood list:

Lords 999 pts

1 x Vampire Lord 409 pts
General, , LoV, Wiz 1, Heavy Armour, Shield, Quick Blood, Red Fury, Sword of Strife, Talisman of Preservation, Charmed Shield

1 x Master Necromancer 220 pts
LoV, Master of the Dead, Lvl 3 Wiz, Book of Akhan

1 x Strigoi Ghoul King 415 pts
LoV, Red Fury, Wiz 1, Ogre Blade, Dragonbane Gem, Dispel Scroll

Core 615 pts

29 x Crypt Ghouls 300 pts
Champ,
Strigoi Ghoul King will join this unit (kinda my hammer for now)

30 x Skeleton Warriors 190 pts
Swords and shield, FC, Banner of Eternal Flame ( i'm facing Lizardmen, hoping this can be my anvil)

40 x Zombies 125 pts
Musician
Necro will Nestle in here (tarpit)

Special 160 pts

5 x Hexwraiths
Champ (used with book of akhan for fun times, or what im interpreting as fun times?)

Rare 225 pts

1 x Terrorgheist

Ok so i know this list probably isn't optimal or tournament standard or anything.I really wanted to try out all my lords so that i can find out which i like most, and try and establish builds.

Sadly had to drop my Wraith King due to overspending on core, i think? I intend on buying more and more over time so after this tester game i'll know a bit more about my favorite play style hopefully!

This is my first attempt ever at building my own list so be as brutal as you like with it!

I'm all ears and want to learn how to get the most out of my new army!

I can't believe how adaptable and customizable my vamp lord is!

Thanks for reading if you have!

This looks really, really nasty.

Those two lords can really much through anything. I would consider replacing Sword of Strife with Sword of Antiheroes. If you face at least 1 enemy character the trade of is worth it, 2 or more and it is just better. You might also want to try and fit Other Trickster's Shard on either the Lord or the SGK, it would help them against characters, daemons and the like.

Other than that I think this is about as nasty as it get. Bookf of Arkhan combos nicely with Hexwraiths indeed.

I used battlescribe it's more likely that I have copied something over wrong
I've tweaked slightly will update here.

Honestly, it looks a bit weak. You only have a couple of heavy hitters.

The TG is good, but it's a glass cannon. It has to be within 8" to do anything and won't last long if it gets into combat alone. It will also soak up any magic or shooting on the first couple of turns, so may be gone by turn 3.

The hexwraiths will also be high and dry because you don't have anything to keep up with them. If you get into combat on the front side, they are done for, ethereal be damned. If they get charged, they may just die to crumble from static CR.

So you'll be looking at being 2 units and 400 points down by turn 2-3 and only your SGK and VL to carry you through the rest of the game. 30 skeletons will vaporize pretty quick. Your ghouls will do ok damage-wise, but they have no saves. Your opponent will likely know to take out your characters next. Before End Times, this Core Tax was the bane of all VC players.

The real problem is that you don't have a 2000 point army yet. You can get there because of the 50% lords/heroes, but you won't likely win against people that do have a solid army already (at 2000 points). You'd be better off at 1500 points max. I know that may not sound as good, but you'll be on a more level playing field.

If you still have all of your bits leftover from the hexwraiths, zombies, and skeletons, make more models. With the hexwraiths, just buy a set of 6 skeleton horses ($5-$8) and then you use the Black Knight pieces and now you have 5 black knights and five hexwraiths for $40 instead of $65. For the skeletons and zombies, all you need is more bases and you can put arms and crap coming out of the ground (it totally counts).

I agreed with Alabaster, you need more threats on the table.
If you want to try out different lords then I suggest playing multiple games. Start with a VL and MN first as I feel you'll enjoy an armored, 4+ ward save vamp over an SGK.

Thanks for the tips!

I did feel like i was stretching my points out when building the list.

I'll tone it back down to 1500 as you suggest and drop the SGK.

Would you head up the Lord in the skele's and the necro in the zombies still? Then leave the ghouls to act as my "damage" dealers until i get something more worthy.

I have recently bought a varghulf and 10 grave guard to add to the list. would these slot in better at 1500 pts?

Apologies for my lack of knowledge, i'm reading as much as possible to try and understand fully.

I'm considering getting some vargheists/crypt horrors next as they seem strong units.

I really like Vampire lords, their versatility is incredible and love the idea of a killing machine leading a unit.

Am i ok to run this as UL? to avoid crumble is that what people are doing now? It seems to offer little disadvantage unless i'm missing something?

Thanks again for helping me out with this. Already gaining more knowledge.

First battle is vs Lizardmen, a little worried about dealing with the inevitable saurus block with slann. Any tipso n dealing with this?

If you know what you are playing against, you can cater your list better. Against Lizzies, Screaming banner is nice to have because it cancels out their third die on leadership rolls.

It looks like you don't have the models to actually increase units beyond their starting sizes so either drop Master of the Dead or make the units smaller and add ghouls. Zombies can grow beyond starting size already, so MotD is really just for skeletons.

I would also drop the sword of anti-heroes and replace it with Ogre Blade or a mundane weapon and take Nightshroud on the VL and Beguile.

With those changes, you should still have about 16-26 points to spend. There are a few options left and I will list them in order of best to worst (IMO). First is consider taking Other Tricksters Shard, next is to replace Ruby Ring with something like Flaming Rod, and third is to upgrade the TG with Infested or Rancid Maw. Flaming Rod will keep those pesky skinks from roaming every which way and distracting from the larger targets.

If you are playing End Times, that changes it up a small amount because you still have crumble, but don't have to worry if your general dies. It may also open up some magic, but be sure to clear that with your opponent.
