Hi,

We're playing a small tournament in the beginning of next year and have decided on comp, no less then 18, and up to 2000p

I started out making a list with a BK bus with 3 characters(1 lord and 2 baby vamps) and 9 BK's but ended up with comp as low as 10.1. =/
I don't really know how to tweak this list to get up to comp 18 without crippling it to much. I tried removing RF on the small vamps and removed QB on the lord along with the magic weapons, but after that I have to start removing characters but then I end up with a lot of spare points instead.
Anyone got a good idea how to make this "legal"?

Lords and heroes
1 Lord, HA, Lance, Nighmare, RF, Beguile, Armor of Destiny
2 Vamps, HA, Lance, Nighmare

Core
30 Ghouls
20 Zombies, Standard, Mus
20 Zombies, Standard, Mus
5 Dire wolves
5 Dire wolves

Special
9 BK, Barding, Lance, Banner of swiftness
1 Spirit Host

Rare
Terrorgheist

This is the comp system we're using.

Thnx in advance!

Whats the comp at at the moment? You could easily trade those zombie units for skeletons and save some comp. You could even drop the ghouls for some more skellies if need to be. I´d focus on the bus and how to best support it in these type of list. I use the comp a lot and you really need to focus your list on order to optimize it. Doing a little bit of everything rarely works and gives a an army with a low comp score when it doesnt nessesarily deserve one.

Also, your characters look way to flimsy to begin with. With 2k armies you rarely need a bus with 3 vampires in it, its overkill and costs a lot of comp points. I´d drop one of the hero vampires and kit the lord and the other one so that they can bring the pain. You really want the lord to have both red fury, quickblood and preferably the ogre blade. The bus can cost comp, maybe the terrorgheist too, the rest is there for the "soft" part xD.

With the current list I had 10.1 or something near that. I didn't count that precise when I saw I reached the limit with only lords and heroes.

Red Fury + Quickblood with magic weapon makes a Lord cost -57 and that is close to 50% of the comp allowed.
The Terrorgheist cost -24 so there a total of -81.
BK's are -20 on their own, and a additional -7 if I put 2 characters in that unit.

So with 12 points to go, I need to fit all core and at least one more character in there, and that's not gonna happen.
As you can see, Lords are extremely expensive and tbh I can't really see how I would make use of any vampires at all without Red Fury.

We're also ruling out all lvl 6 spells so I don't see a use for Master Necros or even a necromancer.

Well, I'll try to put down a list that makes the comp and then you guys can make an opinion.

Allright, this post didn't really get that as much attention as I was hoping but I finally came up with a list that I think is ok at least.

I know that a BK bus is suppose to include some kick ass characters but since RF and QB + Magic weapon comp too much I decided to leave those out completely. And when I now have played 2 training games against the lists I'll face next saturday I feel that the characters doesn't really need to be that killy after all.

The lists are to be handed in by this saturday, and I would like to get some opinions.

Total Points 2000p
Lords 452p
Vamp Lord x 1 -15
Magic level 3 -10
Nightmare -2
Beguile
Fear incarnate

Heroes 318p
Vamp x 1 -7
Nightmare -1
Aura of dark -2

Necromancer lvl 1 -5

Core 500p
Crypt Ghouls x 20 -8
Dire Wolves x 5 -3
Skeleton x 30 -3
Zombies x 20 -4

Special 330p
Spirit host x 1 -6
Black Knights x10 -20

Rare 400p
Varghulf x 1 -10
Terrorgheist x 1 -24

Total of -120 = 300-120=180/10 = 18.0

Do you really need 2 vampires in the bus? What if you go with just the tooled up lord and his knights + terrorgheist and build the rest of the army as comp light as you possibly can? Or go with just Quickblood on both vamps, leaving the red fury home. Those are things that might make a huge difference.

Your point is valid for sure. I could do that, and I actually tried but couldn't get is to balance out enough.

For example, if I remove the vamp and move his comp to the lord, I then end up with ~260 spare points instead. And VC is not comped lightly, especially not ethereal and units that are easily raised. As a matter of fact, all our units are comped, not even skeletons get away for free. So its very hard to find 260 points replacement unit that comps under -10,

And also, I don't want to put all the eggs in one basket.

But I will take the quickblood into consideration, when I look at it, that aint comped too hard.

Ended up in 4th place out of 6.

4-16 against Empire. He managed to ram his steamtank in my bus flank. My mistake tbh.

10-10 against Orcs n' Goblins. Very tight game, but again, got my bus flanked by his Black orcs and crumbled away.

18-2 againt Brettonia. Due to him failing som charges, I managed to keep my TG alive and that basicly won the game for me. Even tho, he chewed up the BK eventually since I couldn't get my invocation off for 1 magic phase. But that was the only unit i lost.

What I learned from this is, the BK bus is not worth it without a character that can bring some serious killing, quickblood is not enough to generate CR. If you get charged by a hard hitting unit or even a unit with lot of static CR then you crumble away.

The TG was the only thing doing dmg in all games. Oneshotting a unit och Demi gryphs, a Giant and the last game he ripped allmost everything.

Hate to say "I told you so" xD. Naah, you tried the double vamp with quickblood thing and it didnt pay off, that happens. At least you learned an important lesson, one learns more from the game we lose :). Good luck in the future!

I know you did! =)And I tried, I just could not make the list balance out point and comp-wise with a tooled vampire. What I learned tho is that I need to leave the Bus at home with those restrictions. Maybe go GG and SGK, or even a horror block with an engine on the side.

I'll definitly buy another TG, that's for sure! =)

Yes, horror blocks are awesome. Going the infantry route might do the trick. UK grand masters was played using the swedish comp system. A bus list in second place, but having high comp doesnt work for vamps.

For comp, infantry is way better. Been enjoying my double engine list lately with great results :).
