3 Spirit Hosts

3 Wraiths and Banshee

The Lord goes with the skeletons while the Vampire goes in the ghouls, so what I have is 3 infantry units that are very capable of winning on their own. The zombies protect a flank and get big with a few invocations. The spirit hosts either flank or hold a hard enemy unit up for the game while the wraiths harass and lend kills where needed. That's my very loose battle plan. Also depending on the lore my Lord chooses I can cause a fair bit of ranged death.

With my other list I swap the spirit hosts and wraiths for a varghulf, wolves and a small unit of black knights. Which would you say suites the army better?

Why the bloody hauberk on your lord? For the saves? I would recomend to squeze in the helm of command since its to darn good on lord who´s main focus it to support his army. Imaging GG hiting on 2´s. I would also recomend either focus your army towards skeletons or ghouls so both your magicians can have either summon ghouls or lord of the dead. It gives a bit more flexible magicphase.

About the matter on swaping host and wraiths I would recomend you to play test it. The main advamtage with the varghulf is that it can keep your flank marching because its a vampire. But try and test it.

And it really matters if the enemy has magical attacks. If they don't, Wraiths are gold. They were my #1 performer last game. Their move of 6 through terrain is awesome. If the enemy has magic attacks... T3 with no armour is not much protection. If they don't have much magic, or have MSU (like WE) Wraiths are great.

Yes I'm taking the bloody hauberk for the save as I want my Lord to be protected, as much as I love th helm I cant seem to fit it in, depending on how my vampire does I might swap his equipment to take the helm. I've played a few games with a mix ghouls and skeletons and their master powers and haven't had any problems, the summon ghouls is just a bonus as the ghouls are primarily for support. In fact I may swap 5 of them for 5 wolves as wolves always come in handy.

I know ethereals can be hit or miss from using them in the last book. But as you say when the enemy doesn't have much to stop them they are brilliant which is the risk I'll take with using them. Just gotta stay away from those pesky dryads.

Just have to stay away from being charged by those pesky dryads. I ran 5 wraiths into them + Helm of Commandment. Whooped them all. 15 attacks WS6 S5... they have no armour/ ward save... they ran.

one thing i would say about the Crown of Command is that it cannot be used if the bearer is in combat which is a hell of a waste of a lord, and imo on a vampire as well. as for the other characters, it seems a bit too pricy for their WS as well.

I had a complete vampire caster. Helm + Periapt + Dark Acolyte + LotD.

Other 3 vamps were a mixture of combat/magic. Lord was a caster but had enough protection that he could fight. I don't think it's a complete waste of a vampire to have it out of combat. Having this one vampire out of combat to give 15 wraiths WS6 instead of 3 is a fair trade. That helm really helped win a lot of combats.
