hi there,
Im going to face a friend of mine in two days who usually doesnt play HE, so I have no idea what he's going to bring up. He just said he would bring a named hero, so I have the right to bring one up too - that would be Manfred.

So I would really like to get your oppinion on my actual list, as I haven't played HE for a very long time. I wanted my list to get really magic heavy with lots of bound spells.

Long speech, no sense, here comes my list:

HEROES:
- Count Manfred (general)
skull staff
staff of damnation
barded nightmare

-Vampire
avatar of death (shield)
dark acolyte
nightmare
rod of flaming death

- Vampire
dread knight
ghulkin
hand of dust

- Vampire
dark acolyte
summon ghuls
flayed hauberk
nightmare
dispell scroll

CORE:
- 20x Ghuls, Champion
- 20x Ghuls, Champion
- 20x Ghuls, Champion
- 5x Dire Wolves

SPECIAL:
- 4x Fell Bats

RARE:
- 4x Wraith (1 Banshee included)
- Black Coach

So all the heroes are thought to be in the ghuls and heal them up but mostly bringing the enemy down with lots of magic power.
the black coach on the other way should get maybe 2 or 3 skill points right at the beginning as there are 13 cast dice it can try to absorb :vampire3:

so please im looking forward to read your suggestions and thoughts

greetings

Hello,

I think your list looks pretty good to go up against the High Elves, though I do have some additional suggestions to give you another little edge in the game. First, are you suspecting any kind of Dragon or Griffon-riding Elf Prince to be used against you? In either way, spending the additional 26 points to bring your unit of Dire Wolves into a Dragon Trap (6 Wolves + 1 Doom Wolf) will be worth the while for you. Also, giving one of your Dread Knight Vampires the combination of the Nightshroud and Sword of Battle will pretty much assuredly be of good use against High Elves, as it will deny them their ASF and let you strike first with 4 S5 attacks that'll kill most of their troops on a 2+. :)

Oh and something else I just noticed, Count Mannfred is not quite as well adjusted to an army of Ghouls since it doesn't make full use out of his Vampiric Powers. I'm not saying that he's necessarily a poor choice, but I think you could create an equally effective Lord on your own and for cheaper. :)

Would also say to add Infinite Hatred to the Nightshroud vamp. Essential to kill those swordmasters before they kill you.

Also, I'd drop the Dire Wolves, and get 2 units of 3 Fellbats each. Use Mannfred to raise them both to 5+, and you don't have to worry about getting skeletons. As your blocks are all 20+, use his magic offensively.

hey there
thanks for the help so far. I will surely change the dire wolves into the fellbats, great idea. the thing about the direwolve trap seems also interesting, but i cant say if he will bring a dragon or something - kind of gambling i think.

also i noticed, that manfred an ghuls are not the best combination as he will be much stronger in reviving skeletons
and i thought for some time what to take, skeletons or ghuls... as they are in general quite even i suggested the ghuls to have more offensive potential with two attacks and poison and nearly quite as defensivly strong as skeletons, because their amror is only unuseful if the enemy gets mb THW and with this S5 - but thats almost the same as for the T4 with ghuls. or not?
so maybe manfred can use a lot of his magic potential offensively

sowrd of battle or infinite hatred on one of my vampires seems like a good idea, I have to figure out what i take, but probably one of this :)

thatnks for the help so far. any other suggestions? or comments for my latest thoughts on ghuls or else?

greetings

Again, Mannfred should definately be able to do some good work in this army, even if he won't be raising any Skeletons. He has a lot of power dice to use and a lot of stuff to use it with, and with such large units of starting troops he'll be free to sling those magic missiles of his right from the start - that should help you bring the numbers of the enemy elite troops down. :)
