First of all, I'd like to say I have been playing Warhammer particularly the VC since 2003 and been working on getting a good tournament list together. The tournament is in mid October. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1. Varghulf -- 175 pts

2. Vampire (Spectral form, dispel scrolls x 2) with 2 Cairn wraiths and 1 Banshee -- 375 pts

3. Wight Lord (BSB, Drakenhoff Banner, Great weapon) with 14 Grave Guard (Banner of the Barrows, Champ, Standard, musician) -- 478 pts

4. Vampire Lord (Sword of Battle, Walachs Bloody hauberk, Dread Knight, Infinite hatred, Red fury, Book of Arkhan) with 9 Black knights (champ, standard, musician, Banner of Strigos) -- 727 pts

5. 10 Skeleton Warriors (standard) -- 88 pts

6. 10 Skeleton Warriors (standard) -- 88 pts

7. Vampire (nightshroud, helm of commandment, lord of the dead, dark acolyte) with 10 skeleton warriors (standard, champion, banner of the dead legion) -- 316 pts

Total points = 2247

Any and all comments are welcome. Basic strategy is to run a semi refused rank with the varghulf supporting the knights on the advancing flank and the grave guard and the wraiths holding the refused flank. The skeles will be in the middle with the vampire block of skeles supporting them from the rear. Need help. Tried running a death star unit in past but not enough hammer units in that list and one of flanks usually fall with the death star because of lack of balance.

Six years of warhammer should have taught you to construct a legal army list by now ;)

(2) cannot exist, as your Vampire costs 200 points, is illegal since he has magic items, and would total 325 points without the 2 scrolls.

In general, I'd lose the standards on the bog-standard skellies, and replace one unit with Zombies at least.

Be prepared for a lot of shaken heads and tutting for taking Helm of Command and Drakenhof Banner ;)

Well, Im using the lastest version of Army builder and it didnt come up as a flag. I guess you cant really trust army builder. So are they considered magic items? Im not sure since Im getting a legal list on army builder.

The 325 points is including the wraiths and banshee. So he does cost 200 points

Im not a big fan of zombies especially if i can grow them but i can understand your comment on the banner on the skellies. just wanted to up the static CR on the unit of skeles since it has a vampire in the unit.

Greatly appreciate the comments.

Army builder should only be used as a guide alongside your army book...

What's the 325 points you mention about? I was referring to the incorrect 375 points listing for 2 Wraiths + Banshee + Vampire. Seems army builder can't even do normal addition either..?

Some thoughts:-

- With only 4 PD to raise into the Skellies, you may find them under supported - dispel those in the first couple of turns and 10 skellies will find themselves losing to most combats.

- People will avoid the GG until they have removed the skellies

- The large knight unit is strong, but it is also easily diverted by enemy chaff (even with the Book)

- a unit or two of dogs will assist you in diverting key enemy units eg chaos knights/bloodknights to protect your flanks and let you control the movement phase a little more.

- I would suggest dropping the regen banner - trade it in for a unit of zombies or some more skellies and a few more GG. The banner is great but I think you'll benefit more from having the extra troops.

- Your Black Knights lose their ethereal movement with the Lord in there. This ethereal movement is one of the best reasons to take Black Knights in my opinion.

Because it's not really a fast list, enemy shooting and magic missiles can cause a lot of havoc.

Also remember that your two key units - wraiths and knights, only get one wound back per casting of IoN. With your limited magic support it may be difficult to replenish losses fast enough.

As an example, if I was playing my Bret army against this list I would look to divert your knights, charge through your skeleton blocks and then look to take on what was left. Probably leaving the regenerating unit of GG well alone, but diverting them with other units. And Bret's will not be the worst thing you'll face on the tourney scene.

Hope some of this helps.
