The SGK is kitted out to challenge and kill his Lord, hence OTS and WS 8 (he hits me on 4s instead of 3s). I'm prob expecting a mounted Lord with a good armour save and ward. Hopefully I could kill him in a round or two. The whole army will advance in a line with the Mast Necro and Mortis lending support from behind. T-Gheist hunts Knights. Zombies and Crypt Horrors to tarpit blocks of warriors.

Well firstly, I'd swap around the D-scroll and the cursed book. You want the D-scroll to be on someone other than your Lvl 4 and it doesn't matter a great deal where the cursed book is.

Secondly, against anything in the WoC army that doesn't have GW those 20 ghouls are going to be dead before they can swing and will little damage to anything in chaos armour anyway. I'd drop them.

Finally, I think you need a bit more chaff to bring things more onto your own terms; you want to be able to keep the deathstar out of a significant combat for as long as possible. After all, you'll probably need to double warriors with your characters and horrors in order to actually kill them.

Why is that?

Good call on the Ghouls. I'll drop em and put in some Dire Wolves for chaff plus some more Zombies. I normally take units of 2 Fell Bats but I found it hard to fit them with the Horrors/T-Gheist/MEngine.

Thanks

The reasoning behind swapping the D-scroll is this:

You will always be dispelling normally with your lvl 4. Note that you may only use the dispel scroll if you could normally dispel. If your lvl 4 fails to dispel and breaks concentration, you would loose the ability to use your D-scroll. However if a lvl 1 is carrying it and your lvl 4 fails to dispel, you still have the option of using your scroll.

As for the chaff, it's a simple fix; just get a couple more packs of wolves with the points saved from the ghouls and then plough the rest into the 25 man unit of zombies to make it into a workable target even if you don't get many/any IoN off

Cool, thanks for that. Anyone else have any advice? I just find warriors really hard to deal with. Because we have no shooting and their troops are awesome in combat, I just get minced and crumble faster than I can reraise. My only real tactic is to try and T-Gheist his knights off the board, try to keep my blocks from dying and hope the points difference is big enough for me to win.

Oddly Ive got a game against warriors tonight too... I'm running really big blocks with lots of chaff... going trying to isolate each of his combat blocks and take them apart one by one... I'd say roll some of your blocks together at least you might get him on static cr.
One thing though:
Vampire – 179
Beguille
Cursed Book, Seed of Rebirth, Luckstone, Enchanted Shield
HvA
Level 1 Vamp
(will join the skelies/SGK)
this char has 2 talismans... you'll have to drop the luckstone or the seed of rebirth
I'd also look to swap lores on one of your casters, you're running 2 lvl 1's, a level 2 and a level 4 all of vamps... maybe consider taking a lvl2 metal to counter his armour? or death and try to snipe his chars? I'm trying the metal option this evening :)

Well spotted, thanks for that. Will prob keep the seed. I'm hoping I'll get 5+ regen with the Mortis Engine around.

Good suggestion about the magic. Let us know how the metal goes.

Good luck for the game!

I was just reading another thread about a SGK themed list in which some guy named Johhny Crash (or something) was extolling the virtues of Lore of Death. Would I be better off changing my level 4 to Death? Or is my list not really suited to it?

I found death ok, it is great for sniping chars and has some really strong debuffs, but against woc i would think that being able to negate their armour is half the battle. Just the signature spell should toast his knights and then you can debuff the warriors too... i'm not sure how much success you'd have with sniping his lord with death as they are so hard to kill... i usually just try to bog them down in chaff/redirectors rather than kill them

Well that's prob the smart way to go....but the Blood Dragon in me says I must declare a challenge! :vampire3: In fact, I don't really care about who wins the game, I just want to kill his lord in a challenge. lol. I think SGK with S7 and OTS should have a decent chance at it. What do Chaos lords have? He could have a 3++ ward.

The lvl 4 death is a lot more effective than a lvl 4 of vampires, but you want to keep a certain number of vampires casters (if simply for IoN). I think I'd advise either taking death on your master and then one of the heroes keeps vamps, or vamps on the necro and give other lores to both heroes. I'd take the master of death, but really it's play style more than anything that should be your final choice

Its really a matter of list composition. Vampire lore has a lot of buffs. With any lore selection, if you just have a lvl 1 your usually best off taking the sig, due to casting values, and the fickle nature of WoM. If your taking a lvl 4 you obviously have access to a wider range of spells(rerolls to hit and wound for vamp lore for example) If your army consist largely of units that wont necessarily benefit that greatly from those buffs, i.e.,zombies or skeletons requiring 5's to hit or wound, it isnt that great of a buff. GG, ghouls, BK,, or CH benefit much greater from these buffs so they are more relevant. Death magic has more spells that will be useful more of the time. Of course with regards to list comp.:)
Hope this helps.

Double TG is a setup that keeps gaining popularity due in part to players like Johnny_Crass who have had great success with it. Maybe it's something you want to consider? The seed of rebirth vamp could be given different defensive gear to keep him/her alive.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I'll def have to try out the lev 4 death. I usually just stick to vamp lore. Why is death better than vamp? Soulblight seems obviously good and DnD could be handy, but Purple Sun seems limited against WoC with I5. Everything else seems like it would be hard to get a necro in LOS and range. I'd feel pretty nervous about moving a lev 4 necro and zombie bunker into 12" of a block of warriors.

Re the double Terrogheist, sounds like a good idea (if a lil cheesy). Perhaps I could go double T-Gheist and mount my SGK on a 3rd T-Gheist!! Mwahahaha! :vampire3:

Too much? Well It would be fun to try! lol

The thinking behind the current list is that I really like the idea of 8 Horrors backed up by the M-Engine. I think even Warriors would struggle to kill them! But perhaps they would be fine without it and I could take a 2nd T-Gheist.
