This army is really kind of a one trick pony with a Skeleton Deathstar, but those knights coupled with a varghul provides another threat. Its heavy handed with the vampire lord, which is why Im apprehensive about it. Any Ideas?

Just a quick note from my part... I already played quite a few games with hero level vampires on foot... and my experience is NOT good... waaay too squishy for their high cost...

Even str3 will be able to take the guy down... If you want hero level vampires I'd suggest mounting them to give them some sort of protection...
Dont get me wrong... they're awesome fighters now... but 2 wounds tough 4 just dont last 2 combat rounds for you to heal them again and your BSB is 231 points...
Better spend elsewhere in my oppinion...

Also the format you post your army in is a bit confusing... try boiling it down to the essentials instead of posting all the details below taking up the same space as a full unit...

And thirdly - what are you going for? - following any restrictions?... just trying to make the beastiest army you can or trying to find a balanced fun build for friends? :)

Cheers and good luck,
/Uthiliano

My group although friendly, we play super hardened army lists in these parts. The only Comp restrictions in our tournies are no Power Scroll and and no Lord Level named characters.

Sorry. Thats how the list came out of Army Builder.

Just re-write it so f.ex.:

9 Black Knights @ 290.0 Pts
Barding; Lance; Heavy Armour; Shield; Standard; Musician

1 Hell Knight

10 Skeletal steed

Becomes:

10 Black Knight with Full Command, Barding and Lances

... or something... Just dont want all the information that is given... only the extra you choose... so Heavy Armor, shield etc... it all comes with the choice and can't buy em without - dont write it! :)

If you're going for a hard list I'd choose a focus... if you want heavy magic your core should consist of atleast 2-3 units of zombies imo - they're dead sexy with a couple of necros around (remember even lvl 1 necros get to cast 1-dice IoN on 3+ with Mortis Engine)...

On other fronts hordes of GG and even Ghouls still work... With no restrictions perhaps go for 40 of each...

For map control there's a bunch of options now... Dire Wolves, Fell Bats, Spirit Hosts are all cheap and very effective... why not one of each atleast?... Ofcourse I dont see much point in DWs compared to Fell bats but cant ignore them being core and almost handling the job as cheap as their winged allies...

As mentioned before I dont think your Vampire has a place in the army that makes him worth 231 points... Your lord will probably average 5-7 wounds against most things on his own and he will be able to challenge out enemy heroes to protect the vamp but even the puniest enemies will get lucky against that BSB... I dont see much of a chance to protect them unless you're really careful with them....

I'm really down on the "fear-bomb".

There are so many armies/units that make it completely worthless, and then you're just a bunch of skeletons that die only a little bit slower than zombies :(

I get that when it does work, it will be a barrel of fun, but to my way of thinking a competitive 'take-all-comers' list must have components that work every time.

As for Vamps on foot, I've had mixed success myself. I run two, a BSB that's a bit squishier than yours and another that hides in a bunker. The BSB seldom survives. I don't have a good work-around yet.

Now other than the focus on the fear-bomb, the list looks like a lot of fun. I'd love to here how the 10 unsupported Black Knights work out for you, as that's how many I own as well :)

So I played a list close to this against Bretonnians on Friday Night. I think I got a little cheated as I played Open List, went through each unit of my army and explained what they did (Since Im the only one actually playing VC in the area at this moment.) And he did not play Open list and brought The Green Knight(Which I did not know about, would have completely changed my deployment.) And also the sudden rolling of dice without declarations. And when I wasnt looking(We are a pretty social club, and have sidelines coaching to help us all.)

When I play I declare EVERYTHING! Ex. Im WS 4 and your WS 3, so I need 3s to hit. 27 attacks... roll..

So the Terrorgheist will not be making another appearance in the list. Ive decided to eliminate him as he has done nothing but die over the last 2 games. All other units besides my ghouls with a Wight King BSB and my Skeleton Unit with the two vampires died. Leaving me at a tie.

Ive got a new list with a Necromancer Lord and Vampire Lord in the list to try and spread the power over the army. But as such Im right at 25% on lords and under 100 models on the table(Cost me 2 units basically.) Ill post my new list shortly.

It sounds like you need to make agreements about how you play prior to setting up. Nothing wrong with declaring what is needed to hit, etc, but if your opponent isn't going to play Open List then neither should you.

Open List is the unspoken rule of our Club, and all of our tournies and GTs are open list as well. I thought leading by example would have been enough, but apperantly I need to herd cats when I play warhammer.

The TG was supposed to harry his Grail Knights, instead it was stuck in a 4 turn combat with the Green Knight. Even then, I only managed to give up one 45 point model(Spirit Host) to the Grails.

Heres my new list. The Concept is that the Skeletons and Ghouls are anvil units with my black nights as the hammer. Invocation of Nehek spam with 4 casters.

2ndWeapon on your lord should be a shield eh?... combined with a magic weapon after all...

When you write "8 Black Knights ,Barding; Lance; Heavy Armour; Shield; Standard; Musician, 1 Hell Knight," is it correct that it is 9 Black Knights with Full Command (that you write the champ seperate?)... and the same with Ghouls, Skellies etc...

With only only lvl 2 and 2 lvl 1's I'd take Book of Arkhan > Cursed Book... else you probably end up without VDM and it's still quite awesome!
The Zombies I'd split up into 2 units... 3 summons with +2 from Mortis Engine should get them up quite fast and then you'll be glad of the extra unit... Dont really need standard on them either (it's only an extra 25 points but still like +40% VP gain from 20 zombies and doesn't really matter as they dont win on their own)

... nothing more atm...

Cant I use the magic weapon for 5 of the attacks, and then the extra attack at base?

Correct. Full Command.

You missed the Necro Lord. Thats 1 Level 4, 1 Level 2, and 2 Level 1s... Maybe the book of Arkhan is better.

Hey again...

Nope you cant take 2ndWeapon with magic weapon... only shield...

And soz about the necro... missed it... was a quick view I admit...
I'll get back tomorrow when I have more time! :)

Nighty night
