2k 8th list, Skeleton heavy

Hey everyone, so i've put together a 2000 point list, and i'm looking to get some help and suggestions with it if possible, theres one or two things im not entirely sure of yet.

Lords
Vampire Lord with Sword of Bloodshed, Dragonhelm, The Flayed Hauberk, Supernatural Horror, Red Fury and Walking Death = 400

Heroes
Vampire with Forbidden Lore, The Flayed Hauberk, Dispel Scroll = 185
Wight King Battle Standard Bearer with Drakenhof Banner = 225
Wight King with The Flayed Hauberk, Additional hand weapon = 108

Core
19 Skeleton Warriors with a Musician and Standard Bearer, Spears = 183
19 Skeleton Warriors with a Musician and Standard Bearer, Spears = 183
20 Skeleton Warriors with a Musician and Standard Bearer, Spears = 192

Special
18 Grave Guard with Great Weapons, Musician, Standard Bearer with Banner of the Barrows = 297

Rare
Varghulf = 175

1948 Points

Vamp Lord and BSB go with the grave guard unit
Support vamp and Wight King in a unit of skeletons each

A few things that strike me a little are:
The Varghulf on his own, seems a little pointless and could get eaten up
Possible overuse of Flayed Hauberk, maybe other options could be better?
Not much magic, might be worth investing in the wizard upgrade for the VL?

Apologies if the post is a little lengthy, any help and criticism is welcome, and please be as brutal as possible :)
 
Well... Magic Items (unless specified, and there are very few now) can only be taken once per army. So, you have to drop the "extra" Flayed Hauberks.

The only change that I'd probably make is to create 2 bigger units (ie. 30 each) of Skeletons from the 3 units you have...

I've personally not had much time to play 8th yet, so hopefully someone else will be along shortly to comment further on the actual list.
 
Either that or get the lord of the dead bloodline power. I wouldnt call this skeleton heavy. You deffiently need bigger units, one way or the other. The extra level on the lord could well be worth it.
 
Cheers guys, aye I missed that bit in the rulebook about magic items *facepalm*. And yes I reckon bigger skeleton units will be needed, so i've had a crack at reorganising the list:

Mainly i'm not entirely convinced of how destructive a single Varghulf can be, it just seems like it'd get picked off. In bigger games i'll probably increase the Skeleton warriors size, or more regiments of them.
 
the thing w/ skeletons is they are gonna die pretty fast. i wud switch out your mounted white king for a necro and either give him danse or the book (or both! xD ). then take out the black knight unit and add more skellies. also the drakenhoff banner i think is overpriced, add more units like skellies or grave guard and kit out the white king w/ magic items (still make him your bsb) in this new edition having a lot of models is the way to go for your army. if u want u can put a unit of wolves in ten to fifteen strong for speed. i think they are still viable in 8th just as flankers and not diverters. and w/ the necro u dont really need a forbidden lore vamp. the level 3 casting along with a necro invocationing and dansing should b effective. overall i wud try to get each skellie unit up to 40 because thats when they really become a wall and then your flying vamp cud flank them and your grave guard can smash into another unit. also on your lord take off terror and flayed hauberk and give him walachs and give him the +2 attack sword becase with the way warmachines and magic are you need a ward save, and then give him infinite hatred so your always doing max damage.
 
^ hey man, some good suggestions there. 40 Skellies in horde formation with spears is definatly something i'm considering, since having more than one or two ranks fighting would be very nice indeed.

Drakenhof banner, sure its expensive, but you gotta consider that if I put the BSB and the VL into the GG unit, everything gets regeneration, and with the GG not having shields they only get a 5+ save. A necromancer is something I was thinking about but having a vampire knowing all the spells from the vampiric lore means I get a tougher necro who can choose to cast both Dance and Nehek in the same phase. Plus having a second vampire means I get a second march bubble in case Mr Lord gets too far away for whatever reason.

For the Lord, Walachs is a good choice and is something that I might put in, however I know for certain i'll be up against Tyrion one day as a friend of mine plans on taking him, so a 2+ against fire and a 2+ armour against everything else could help keep the lord alive against his dreaded elfness. He already gets +3 attacks from the sword, and with fear not being quite as, well, fearsome in 8th, terror could help if he comes up against those nasty hard hitters. Will definatly be considering dropping the BKs though for more skeletons.

This is one of the things I love about this game, theres so much tactical variation and room for planning :)
 
yeah i understand ur setup then w/ tyrion hahah! i just like to balance out in case i fight someone other than who im planning for but i deffinately c where ur coming from. yeah the thing ive found is runnin less vamps and more support guys works for me. u gotta tell me how running several vamps go. yeah the drakenhoff banner is good if your gonna deathstar. im just biased cuz i fail regens like a beast :mad2: !
 
If your going forbiden lore on the vamp don't take lore of the vampires. Your level 3 lord already uses up three of the spells and so your other vamp would only get the remaining 3 plus invocation.



Remember the brb says that each spell may only be taken 1 time per army excluding signiture spells ie invocation
