I played at a local 2k soft tourney yesterday and came 8th overall out of 19 which I was pleased with as I havent been playing that long and most of the guys who were there had a bit of experience with thier armies. I didnt have time to record each turn in

Battle 1 vs Dwarves

My first opponent was a quiet young lad who started to place down a really nicelypainted army of Dwarves which was surprisingly small which screamed "Elite".
His list had the following:-

Thorek Ironbrow and the Anvil of Doom?
Runepriest
Thane
20 Ironbreakers
20 Warriors with GW
20 Longbeards
10 Thunderers
2 x Bolt Throwers
Organ Gun

The battle started with the Dwarves clearly hoping to smeg the deadites with ranged attacks as the infantry blocks dug their heels in and waited. Fist turn saw the anvil of doom blasting 3 units with a ranged attack causing some nasty wounds on the Black Knights. The GG took some bolts but only lost a few casualties thanks to the regen save.

Not wanting to waste time I Marched everything forward, magic saw the GG brought back to full strength and an extra rank added to boh zombie units. Two succesful Van hels moved zombies even closer to the dwarf lines.

The dwarves held fast and unleashed another volley of fire. The bloodknights took 9 hits from the thunderers but a combination of armour, toughness and ward saves only saw one fall.
The GG took two more bolts and this time a volley from the organ gun. Much to my opponents frustration every single wound inflicted was regenerated. Huzzah!
My laughter was short lives when that cheesy dwarf smacked the anvil again and nearly wiped out the black Knights who were lurking
in the woods waiting to pounce.

I was finally in range to charge some units, The zombies shambled into the Iron breakers and the Warrior unit. The Bloodknights charged the thunderers, skewered a load and ran the
rest down taking them safely behind the dwarf guns. A handful of zombies were cut down and in return they clawed at the dwarves armour but they managed to hold both units in place.

Next turn saw the Organ gun jam for two turns! Happy days. The Anvil blasted a Bloodknight and some of the ghouls from the bunker. Combat saw some more zombies smashed into a pulp but they threw themselves onto the dwarves holding them up for another
turn. With the help of Van Hels the Bloodknights smashed into the flank of the Ironbreakers and caused some serious damage but they didnt break. Bugger!

The final few turns were a slug fest, the Dwarves cut down ranks of undead but not enough to finish the units off. In the middle the GG were hacking up the longbeards the Drakenhof Banner was really tipping the scales keeping the GG on their dead little feet for the rest
of the battle.

In the end I didnt manage to hit the Dwarves hard enough to break them and I ended up losing by around 190 Victory Points.

The Bloodknights were hitting really hard and I think if he knew how hard he would have directed some fire towards them. The Drakenhof GG were really tough, they really chewed up the Longbeards. Because I didnt need to spend PD on raising them back as much I could cast Van Hels over and over with my casters making my army really mobile. Overall a really good game and I learned how nasty the Anvil can be.

Battle 2 Vs Skaven

The Skaven army looked really intimidating with the following units.

Grey Seer on Screaming Bell
Warplock Engineer

35 Clanrats(Screaming bell Unit)
25 Clanrats with ratling gun.
30 Plague Rats? (Cant remember name)
8 Plague Monks with flails
20 Slaves
20 Slaves
Warp lightning cannon
Some Giant Rats

The first couple of turns saw both armies surge forward the terrain was pretty open and we were steaming straight for the middle of the map. The Skaven let loose with the ratling gun and warp lightning on the BloodKnights but the Ward save kicked ass and only one Knight fell. The Grey seer let Plague off on the GG but I decided to let it go to see its potential. After rolling for all twenty GG I had around 6 wounds to deal with, five regen saves later and only one of the deadites fell to the floor. Result!

In turn 3 the everything was in posistion for some charges. The 3 remaining Bloodknights charged the giant screaming bell unit. My hope was to smash the grey seer up as my opponent told me it counted as a chariot. 10 Str7 attacks later saw Screaming bell bits flying all over accompanied by the sound of big rats being squished. As a result of the assault the unit panicked and legged it. Unlucky for them they only ran about 6 inch before the Bloodknights
ran them down.

In the magic phase I got off 3 Vanhels putting the GG into the plague rats and the zombies into a unit of slaves and Clan Rats. With the aid of the crown of command the Plague rats didnt last long against the GG. Again the regen save meant that none of the GG fell in combat.

The game ended up in a complete massacre on turn 4 following a few more BloodKnight and Black Knight charges. The Zombies tied up his units long enough for me to charge my hammer units into them
whilst the wolves chased down the Warp Lightning Cannon.

When we tallied up the score I had lost a unit of Zombies and a Unit of Wolves. Again the GG really proved how tough they were allowing me to focus magic on other things. The spamming of
Van Hels again was really useful having the ability to cast if 5 times a turn pretty much meant at least a couple will get through.

The BloodKnights earned a place in my heart after this battle showing how hard they can hit although I was constantly worried about losing them to the ranged attacks being hurled at them.

Battle 3 Vs Vampire Counts

Ah a fellow Vampire this would be interesting, heres his army:-

2 x Vampires
2 Wight Kings (one a BSB)
3 x 20 Skeletons
20 Grave Guard
8 Black Knights
5 Fell bats

The terrain on this board was horrible, the centre was dominated by a huge rocky area and several houses. We both deployed on the left hoping to make best use of the gap between the terrain. I made my first mistake here by sticking the Bloodknights on the right. My plan was to Van Hels them around the rear whilst the rest of my Army
went head on.

The fist couple of turns were pretty dull, we both advanced forward and increased the size of our units. My second magic phase was terrible. I attempted to cast invocation 5 times and rolled a 1 with every single dice. the necromancer then tried to cast VanHels
on the BloodKnights, rolled double 1, took a wound and ended the magic phase. Bad times!

Turn 3 saw all of our infantry blocks engaged in combat and so the grind began. Again my magic was useless. 3 attempts at Vanhels failed and the last two were dispelled,
the BloodKnights were going to have to get a move on. The combats saw a couple of casualties on both sides but nothing to swing the battle either way.

Turn 4 and the BloodKnights finally got off a charge on his Graveguard, Ass kicking time I thought. After rolling 16 attacks I was horrifed to see I only got 6 hits of which 4 wounded.
Bad times continue! The GG hit back and got two killing blows, beat me in combat by 3 and the rest of the Bloodknights went up in a puff of smoke.

By turn 6 the combat in the centre was still raging and neither side could inflict a killing blow his Black Knights were chewing up Zombies and my GraveGuard were hacking down skellies but iwasnt enough.

In the end it was a loss to me as he had bagged 400 VP's for the Bloodknights.

My gamble hadnt paid off and I paid the price. I could go on about what ifs but I left te Bloodknights unsupported and put them up against a tough unit. I'll considermy lesson learnt.

Overall I had a great day and I really liked how my list worked out. I dont think I'd change uch, my lord could be made a bit more efficiant by dropping forbidden lore for something else
as I didnt use it once. My MVP has got to be the Graveguard for being rock hard nut jobsfollowed closely by the BloodKnights for their Skaven slaying antics!

Interesting list with 2 wight lords and the drakenhoff banner not in Bloodkeep knights but in GG. Congrats on your victory against skaven, always a difficult opponent. When the 3 Bloodkeep knights charged the bell unit i was not sure about the result but the won combat easily.

One question. Do you believe that putting the bsb with Drakenhoff in Bloodkeep knights would be a good choice or it is better in gg?

I am having a battle against Dwarfs on Monday and i'd like to listen your comment.

I think that he will try to destroy a fast hard hitting unit that's why i plan to put the bsb in it. Moreover GG can be easily raised back whether BKN not.

I considered putting the Drakenhof banner with the BloodKnights but a couple of things put me off doing this.

1) The GG with Great Weps only get a basic 5+ Heavy Armour save, I wanted to keep the Great Weps but make them a bit more resiliant.

2) If I put the banner in the BloodKnights I think the unit would total around 650+ points. Alhtough they would be Uber tough, its a big chunk of your army dead if you make a mistake like I did in battle 3.

By all means go ahead and try it, I think I will try the combo myself in a future game to see if the extra save is worth it with them. Perhaps someone else who reads this threar has used the combo and can comment.

Nice report, interesting to see how the army stood up against three quite different opponents.

Out of interest what do you mean by a "soft tourney"?

By soft tourney I mean that there was next to no restrictions on what you could take and victory conditions. It was not as competative as most tourneys either as most people knew each other and it was a good friendly atmosphere.

There was a really good mix of armies there, I'd go as far as saying that all races except Dark Elves were represented.

This actually closer to the definition of hard. Soft tournies generally have lots of restrictions and comp rules to keep the lists from being general cheesy or overpowered. Lower scores for too many points in heroes, or penalties for having more PD then 10, ect. Those are examples of rules you tend to find at soft tournies. Some have blanket 'no special characters' as well.

Were there any restrictions on Wizards though? 2 Vampire lists and 1 Skaven, and only 2 Wizards in each army, seems odd...

Seems my definition of soft differs from others, I'll have to restrain from using it in future as its caused a bit of confusion :D

As for restrictions there was none. My choice on 2 wizards was because of the army list that I chose.
