Me and my mate have a doubles comp and i wondered if a hored of 400 zombies was worth it?

Short answer? no. Long answer? Definately not. I'm not saying dont do it though, I myself have a list planned to incorporate 2 units of 100 zombies and very little else :P

The problem is, that enemy units will be able to dish out too much damage, even for such a big unit to take because remember, this unit will pretty much have an entire army to try to kill it and combat in both your turn and theirs, while you can only raise in yours will seal your doom. I could easily see you losing 40-60 zombies every combat phase due to crumbling and how easy it is to kill a zombie. Also your vampire will likely be standing around on their own given the 1600 points spent on a single unit of zombies. Give it a shot though! just dont expect to win (or place (or not be at the tournament bottom) ) :clown:

Also, Welcome to the forums! there seems to be a lot of Australian's joining up recently :P

Cheers, tho it is a 5000p game and my mate is running skaven. But your point has been seen and noted.
I mean what are they going to shoot or change first stormvremon, clan rats or a horde of 400 zombies?

I just don't think you would be able to move them fast enough before they got shot down, I mean zombies can hold a strong block for a few turns but the losses from combat res would be enormous. the only way it might do something productive is if you can maintain Vanhel's Danse Macabre especially in close combat, slow weak zombies with strikes first and hit reroll might do some decent damage or at least be funny enough to be worth it.

You asked if it was worth it ;). It will be the silliest damn thing at the tournament, and can possibly lead to some memorable and incredibly fun battles. I SAY DO IT! :vampire2:

(Disclaimer: you will lose. . . miserably)

I have fielded units of 50 (5x10) in tournaments, and it's funny just watching your opponent's faces fall as you do so. Such masses tend to get avoided initially.

Unfortunately, now that most everyone has figured out that MSU is not the way to go in 8th, fear factor is no longer an issue.

400 zombies won't achieve much, but two units of 100 Ghouls (which can actually have characters join them if need be) would be scary as all hell, and more than twice as effective.

400 Zombies... in a single unit? As in 40 wide, 10 deep? Or 10 wide, 40 deep? xD
I can see it before me. It is glorious. You should do it for the sake of doing it.

Sooo... bad in the minds of winning, but good for having a laugh and whatching your opponent leave.

Exactly. To be honest though still try and split the zombies up a little, that kind of mob is just going to clog up the main attack routes. For both sides. But if you want to do it then dont bother with our comments, it will suerly be a game you'll never forget. And don't forget to bring along as many corpse carts as you can carry. I imagine they could be quite usefull for such a horde.

As a table-wide meat-shield, it could be viable, actually. 72-wide gives 5 ranks and change. You could lob Skaven indirect fire overtop of it, and be able to fend off any charge for a couple of turns. In the mean time, you're casting Wind of Undeath to create units in front of your wall to flank anything holding off a frontal assault, and as soon as the edges start to collapse, you can scamper around the flanks with frenzied rats.

Of course, you could get silly, and use Lore of Light and Danse - WS10 with Pha's means most troops are hitting on re-rolled 5's, while you're hitting back with 5 attacks hitting on 3's with ASF and re-rolls per front model.

Hero support would be:
two Forbidden Lore (Light) vamps on horses
one Necro (Danse)
one BSB (Flag)

Stick in a bunker of your choice, and add another counter-offense unit.
