RE: 40kRP: TMC: Chapter One - Welcome to the Jungle

Lenk let out a sigh of relief as he relaxed in his chair. Suddenly a buzzing sound filled the room as the intercom sounded.
"Milord! We have reports of weapons fire outside the city. The militia is attempted to to keep order but the populace is starting to panic."
Running his hand through his short hair Lenk paused for a second before replying,
"Mobilise the guard and initiate lockdown. Prepare to activate the shield. I want all gates secured within the hour understood?"
"The shield Milord?" stammered the voice on the other side. Such an open declaration would make it clear to the city it was preparing for battle, where only a couple of hours ago the civilians had not even known anything was wrong.
"You heard me. The dammned marines didn't bring good news. It's not just their ships up their I'd wager. Transfer all sensor data to my private terminal."
Flicking off the intercom he relaxed back once more. This backwater world was suppose to be quiet, and good place to make an easy living as long as you didn't stray into the jungle....and now. Now it sounded like hell had come to Moirdivan. he knew the protocol he had to follow, but at least he was in a better position than most with the Astartes already on the planet.
"And they got rid of that damn spy or whatever he was," he half mumbled out loud.
"I don't think so." The gruff voice made him stand up in shock, pistol raised. A second later he was slammed back into the chair, pistol in pieces.
"Calm down. I'm not going to hurt you," Snake said, sheathing his knife and pistol, "the psyker wasn't part of the plan, I had to wait until he left." Lenk shrank back, even though the stranger had put away his weapons, it didn't make the situation any better. If this man was what he though he was, he didn't need those weapons to kill him.
"What do you want?" he asked.
"Information. I need access to the sensor net. Can you log me in?" There was something about him that made Lenk think he was more that just another assassin. He had the poise and expertise that was sure, but the look in his eyes, the way he addressed others, there was something about him.
"Why do you need access to it? Half of our readings are now being blocked so it won't be much use anyway." Lenk questioned hesitantly, even whilst he logged in his details.
"Trust me," Snake replied, "the less you know the better." Moving away from the terminal Lenk gave Snake access, who placed his hand on the screen. Immediately Rex's voice came through the codec.
"Now that's more like it! Give me a moment Snake, I'm downloading the relevant reports now." A few seconds passed before he whistled in wonder, "its worse than we though Snake. I've cut through a lot of the interferance, our tech is a bit more advanced than what their using down there. The net over the pole has been cut of entirely now, but not before it picked up Necron, Eldar and something else. It also picked up a strong energy field, the signature is linked to equipment really out of date. If I was to take a guess I would say its a personal shield, and its age would suggest it belongs to a traitor marine, none of the guard or Asartes would be using something that old."
"Great," Snake replied, "It sounds like everyone wants in."
"I'm also picking up Ork activity in the southern hemisphere and.....it looks like some other arrivals on the planet." Rex finished.
"Snake," the inquisitor cut in, "it looks like the senors managed to scan something inside the Necron complex, but the last report has not been received. The connection between the nearest relay station and the city has been broken, that should be your next target. If we can retrieve that data, it should provide us with more information about the weapon."
"What about the city? The commander seems a bit green, and it sounds like the Orks are heading this way."
"They can look after themselves. Your mission is to locate the weapon, nothing else."
"...."
"Snake? Is that clear?"
"Locate the weapon, got it. Snake out."

Standing up Snake saw Lenk's eyes open wide and realised he had overheard his side of the conversation.
"You know what's coming. It's not going to be pretty and it's not going to be quick. You need to get this city ready to fight." As Snake turned to leave Lenk suddenly found his voice,
"It's you isn't it? Your him? A hero - The Legendary warrior." Pausing, Snake didn't turn around,
"I'm no hero. I'm not here to save the day. I'm just doing a job, a mission like anyone else. Get your people ready."

Klaxon's sounded over the city as the Militia began to lockdown. A crackling sound filled the air as the eight pylons surrounding following the outer wall sparked into life, in tandem with the main central spire. Looking up in awe many of the civilians watched as energy began to arc between them until with a boom the city shield expanded outwards from the central spire. In moments and hemisphere of thrumming power covered the sky, extending downwards until it almost met the curtains walls. A gap was left to be able to fire the cities defences, but faced by the adamantium coated wall and the massive shield, any attacking force would pay dearly.

Stormsong burst into laughter "Fate! Fate says you! Such a human act to follow a force so easily moulded by gods and fools!"

Calming herself, she gestured into the dark line of trees that edged the burnt earth "We wallow here to no purpose but as prey. I seek the holds of humans that rest upon close land. You are free to follow this masquer, if your fate allows it."

Allectus eyed the Librarian as he got up on his feet. His armour badly scarred across his chest. The scent of smoke lay heavily over him. He raised an eyebrow and was just about to ask him about the sorcerer when the vox cut in.

"Brother-Captain."

It was Brother Mathias, from his sternguard squad guarding the thunderhawk. He patched it through to the librarian as well, turning away from him as he did so.

"Go ahead Mathias."
"We've got reports from the local guard that something is about to happen. I smell greenskins, captain."
"Well, that sounds bad. We are on our way back now. Anything else to report?"

The vox blurred for a moment.

"They've just raised the shield, you better hurry. I bet you don't make it here before the orks. Mathias out."

The vox went silent again. Allectus smirked. Mathias always proposed such ridiculous bets. Of course they would make it in time, otherwise, there would be a lot of fighting. As he turned towards the city, he could see the massive shield being powered up as it arced across the sky.

"We might have to blast our way in" He said to Ademus, who gave a faint smile as reply.
"Can you walk?"

The librarian nodded.
"Good, because we need to get moving right now."

The small party started jogging away from the clearing and towards the city. The air now growing more heavy the deeper into the jungle they got. But they soon breached the treeline and started running across the few hundred meters of open ground between the forest and the city walls.
"I hope that Mathias has spoken to the guards, it would be most unfortunate if they opened fire upon us now."

Hoebern laughed.
"No, it would just make things a little more complicated."

They marines moved quickly towards the city but they were still cautious with the news of the Orks fresh on their minds. As they walked onwards Ademus glanced at the Captian and felt a smile touch his lips
Hes definitely not a bad man, and he strangely doesn't seem to hold the dislike for Psykers I've seen in many marines. I think I might actually like him...odd for a non-ultramarine he thought to himself with pleasant amusement.
Turning he looked around at the other marines that accompanied him and felt his smile vanish
Already one of my brothers have fallen
With a sigh he turned his mind to other matters.

Reaching the gates of the city the marines all started at the sounds of the klaxons.
"Well atleast we know that the govenor isn't completely useless" murmered Ademus, drawing laughs from some of the other marines.
Opening a channel over the vox Ademus attempted to get in contact with the city
"This is Epistolary Ademus of the Ultramarines, I demand you open the gates immediately. We will assist you in this emergency if you wish."

The Ork fortress bustled with activity as the Ork Nobs bellowed orders and kicked any slackers into position. Crude war drums sounded signaling the beginning of the WAAAGH!. Kylsnik watched with keen interest.
“Everyfink iz ready Boss.” The warlord turned and faced the Kommando Nob who stood nervously behind him. Kylsnik towered over him,
“An’ whot did yea an yer boyz see Scabwort?” He growled. The Nob blinked for a bit as he thought out his answer,
“Ders a ‘umie place to da Norf. Loadz of Shiny bitz an’ ‘umies, itz real big boss.” Kylsnik grinned,
“Good. Dats real good. Lotz ov ‘umies fer stompin. But if you iz lying to me Scabwort, I iz gonna feed ya ta Irontoof.” The huge green squig by his side let out a low growl, as Kylsnik reached down and scratched it behind the ears. Scabwort nodded vigorously,
“Er anoverfink boss. Me an my boyz we saw Beakies.” Kylsnik stared at the other ork for a moment.
“Beakies?” he grunted before it dawned on him, causing his grin to turn into a scowl of rage.
“Beakies!! Why iz der always Zoggin beakies?! I HATES BEAKIES!!!” he shouted. Whirling around the Warboss adressed the entire horde.
“Boyz dis ‘ere WAAAGH just got betta, ders gonna be beakies!” The horde erupted in noise as the Orks began to cheer and fire their shootas into the air.
Kylsnik grinned again, this fight would be one to remember. “WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!” he roared.
