When your favourite part of the hobby is converting things, it’s very easy to get sucked into a new project but not so easy to finish it before the next exciting thing comes along.

For me, this means I spend a lot of time building minis but not getting much in the way of paint on them. It’s my intention to use this log to try stay a little more focused and maybe actually finish an army (or at least a project) before starting another one.

At the same time, I’ve tried to embrace being a hobby butterfly more this year and just enjoy flitting between different things as the fancy takes me. So don’t expect me to be too strict with myself.

A few months ago I started an Undead army inspired by the story of Dieter Helsnicht. It uses 6th edition Vampire Counts as army rules but brings in a few Tomb Kings units for that classic Undead feel (before the VCs and TKs were separated). The Soulblight Gravelords plastics are a constant source of good parts, and I’ve had lots of fun converting the army around Dieter and his infamous manticore.

All but one unit of Zombies is now undercoated, so I’m almost fresh out of excuses not to crack open a pot of Skeleton Horde. Here are a few quick pics of one or two units.

I’ll try take an army shot and some more close-ups over the weekend. If I haven’t got distracted and started a Fantasy Tau army using Grand Cathay parts, that is. Or revisited my Laurelorn Gnomes. Or the Bretonnian Fimir cult. Or another Slann. And I have just had the urge to collect some Orcs and Goblins…

This probably won’t sound like an achievement to anybody else, but three skeleton catapult crew aside, my army is assembled, based, and undercoated!

My brain needed me to get to this stage before I could think about actually painting them. Next up is finding a scheme that I can use to get through this lot relatively quickly, as I’ll be here until 2027 otherwise.

Also, my Golden Bat voucher arrived! Dieter implored me to turn it towards more Undead, but on something of a whim, I picked up some Jade Warriors and Tau…

Looking forward to updating with some actual painted models soon…

I’ve been bitten by the vampire bug, which tends to happen from time to time (and often, it seems, around this time of the year).

There are several vampires on my desk and I’m planning a potential Vampire Coast army, but up first is my take on my favourite vampire of all time, Melkhior the Ancient.

As you’ll be able to tell from earlier in the thread, one of my favourite parts of the hobby is bringing to life the classic characters I grew up with and love, using modern plastics.

Here’s Melkhior so far. I hope you like him.
