A couple of rule discussions

First senario:

2 characters fight in a challenge in a combat unit A vs unit B - both survive the challenge, but unit A destroys unit B. What happens now? I've searched far and wide in the BRB an can't find something that explaines it fully. Does the wounds caused to the unit carry to the character in the challenge or is he totally immune to damage done by others than his challenger? Does he flee if he fail a break test? And what with a VC char. does he crumble by the CR when he's in a challenge..

We've so far used our common sense or rolled off on the outcome but could never fully agree on the matter...

Second senario:
This is more of can this be right it is to good to be true kinds of things.

In a 2000 point Storm of Magic battle I took a kitted VL with Red Fury, AoDM, armour of destiny, potion of strenght and the obsidian amulet. As an added bonus I gave him the Dawnstar Sword (doubles A characteristic) in a phase where I had Equilibrium (giving auto hits and auto wounds) I charged a 30 man block of WoC's I popped my strenght potion and dealt 10 str. 8 wounds which he had no means of saving against then my red fury kicked in and killed 10 more..

Is this correct? I can't find anywhere that says this wouldn't be the case - I just can't see how my WoC opponent can do anything about it but try to hit him with a spell that removes the model sans saves, the VL has a 2+ ward save vs "normal" magic... It was our first SoM fight and my opponents jaw pretty much dropped form the 2nd floor into the basement when it happened.. :)

Not certain on second scenario since we never play SoM games around my area.

On the first one, wounds in combat never carry over onto characters (only crumble does, I believe). If you are in a challenge, only wounds done in the challenge can affect the characters in the challenge (though I think you can still snipe with Death magic and such). At the end of combat, the lone character would have to pass a Break test as normal. If VC, will crumble as normal.

Challenge does not change the basic stages of combat. Just no combat can happen to the characters in the challenge from those outside. It is a matter of honor.

So if, by some strange reason, the character survives and doesn't break/crumble, that unit is stuck there dealing with their leader sparring with some dude who just won't die.

Your second scenario is absolutely correct.

But in all fairness, anyone sending a 600 points vampire lord agains't almost anything would expect such result ;)

Thanks for all your answers! I will continue to ask questions when they arrive :)

First senario, glad to put the final nail in that coffin :)

Second senario, I don't know how many times I've struggled in normal games with that block having to send my blender lord at it every time as the only solution and a TG screaming into the combat from out side... Just plain slaying the whole unit in one round of combat was insane.. And satisfying :D

Dawnstar Sword = :grave: my gaming group officially banned it when i took a Chaos Lord on a Juggernaut into a 40 strong unit of Bugman's Rangers and wiped them out in 4 rounds. Best Mythic item in the game.

Sorry, I am confused still by this answer. Are you saying if two units are in combat with two characters in a challenge that if the losing unit must flee the character in CC would remain in CC or would they flee too. I assumed that when solve CR that you would use the wounds of the challenge in that CR calc. Is that correct or do you treat them as separate CR calcs even though they are in the same units at the start of CC.

challenge combat res counts for the whole battle, not a separate CR.

If a character is in a challenge and his side loses combat, he will follow his unit if it is forced to flee, if he is undead then he will take crumble wounds if necessary.

wounds caused in the unit v unit fight do not carry over to the challenging models tho.
