I am quite new to the Vamps I read a lot and have a load of modells,

I have a few qeustions for unit formations:
Everwhere I read take 2*3 vhargeists or 8 of the crypts but isnt 6 enough for a unit of crypts (so I can make them)? I like vhargeists more then the crypts but would still like to know. Vhargs unit champ any good? he seems a bit expensive.

next: I have 10 horses lying around. I can make 2 times 5 wraiths with it or 10 black knights full command. I have a vamp on steed wich I would like to use but 10 BK could be too little for a unit with a vamp. so should I take BK or 2*5 wraiths?
Vamp on steed is there any other purpose for him other then the BK blender vamp letting him walk around alone seems suicide to me?

Strigoi ghoul on Terrorgheist is he doable? he seems rather expensive.

Thanks for your input

A unit of 6 CH means you may suffer when it comes to fighting as you can take allot less wounds and deal out less punishment.
Also remember if you have CH's odds are you will have a Mortis Engine as well and they are not cheap so you really want to maximize the return on your investment.

I find most unit champions a waste of time unless it is a powerhouse unit or you want then there for challenges, taking them all the time can be a waste.
Varg champions ones are not needed, they are light hard hitting flankers, very squishy but strong.

A unit of Black Knights normally should be between 10 to 15 including characters, just pick yourself up another box when you can.

Hex wraiths are easy to convert from a dozen other things and horses from different armies and in some cases you don't need a horse at all, as long as it looks suitable its good and you do get allot of spare bits so this should be a none issue.

A Ghoul King On TG is doable but I would not advise it.
Its a huge points investment, squishy and where he does bring the pain he loss can lose you the game in one go.
You are safer and better with TG by themselves and a mounted lord on Nightmare or Foot.

10 BK is really all I can make for now and I cant afford anymore for around 2 months. However I thought of an Vamp hero (not a lord) in there as a mini bunker thingy will that work?

The CH being so reliable in a unit of 6 on ME is just not something I wouldnt like, that means whenever the ME dies my expensive CH just becomes less good.

I will see what I can do for the hexwraiths I might have some bret horses lying around here somewhere...... or empire ones....thanks for the tip just painting them ghostly green will make them hexwraits. ATP485: thanks for the idea I have to keep in mind that it will only be cost effecient from 3 boxes each (15 HW and 15 BK).

Coven throne is it any good? it sounds like to expensive and more for certain situations then the ME, and what if you have 2 kits would you glue one of both or 2 ME?

Thanks for you thoughts

Edit: your saying most unit champs arent good enough I can see why but if I take it on just my 2 units of skellies do I really need those points elsewhere. I mean how many difference is it gonna make its just a couple of points not loads.

Yeah that's what I did. I built the BKs so they look 'proper' and the hexwraiths look fine painted up on skeletal horses.

I also had the intention of magnetising one of my mortis engines so I had the option but in reality I'm more likely to play a list with 1 or 2 mortis engines than I am to ever run a coven throne. I guess it depends on your individual game.

Mini blenders in BK buses work, other things work better but that will come in time.

Thats true, when the ME dies the CH will not be as good but thats why people take them 8 strong to get the most out of the investment, smaller units make this combo weaker.

Go for it, Hex wraiths are just ghostly knights in effect (bit more to the lore than that) but if you convert them a bit and paint them right they will fit right on it.

Coven thrones are not a wise investment, nice model but it is a point sink, they die easy as they are such a target and anything less than a lord on it will mean it will be running weaker than it should, you are better putting the points elsewhere on things that will do much more for you and your army.

I would make 2 ME's as they are strong, 2 ME in an army is great for combo's and with all the spare vampire parts you can convert yourself up some characters.

For champions I will explain.
Igf you need them to charge and hold a unit in combat as a tar pit they will help or even if you have a character in the unit take a champion so he does not get stuck in a worthless combat which will minimize his effectiveness or get him killed.
If you do not want the unit as a tar pit or act as a character bus think about the unit and its abilities, for example, a skeleton Champion costs the same as a GG or Black knight champion however the Skeleton has 1 less weapon skill and is strength 3 to there (on charge for knights) strength 6, that strength 6 killing blow attack cost the same as the strength 3 lower Weapon skill attack, the GG and BK is almost a guaranteed wound if it hits, the skeleton one is one of the most basic attacks you will ever have and they will get full saves against it.
