A new dusk - My Kings of War army

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
Hey ho, now that's something I didn't expect... Starting a (kind of) new plog here. But nonetheless it's refreshing and feels pretty much like coming home :) blame Disciple of Nagash 's call :D

But I have to clarify 2 things before I start:
First , this will about Kings of War, not Warhammer. Second: I rebased, and partly repainted, but also increased my forces and put them on multibases. So you will see partly the same minis as in my first plog (I'll link it later), but also a lot of rearranged and new stuff.

If those points are no problem, I'll gladly come up with those pretty little plastic guys :)

Welcome back Theerteen! Looking forward to your new plog, your VC were loads of fun! :)
Thanks my friend, good to see some old bones still rolling around :D actually this is a fitting time for me: At the end of the year the 4th edition of Kings of War will be released. There are major changes announced, which I optimistically look forward to (e.g. shooting can no longer destroy [or rout, in KoW terms] a unit in the first attack, which is definitely a massive win for range-less like undead. Additionally, all single heroes on 20x20 and 25x25 bases increase their bases to 40x40/50x50 which means there is some diorama room). The start of the new edition will also mark the start of a completely new army project. Specifically two projects - Dwarves and Abyssal (basically chaos) dwarves. Both set in a thematic setting to complement each other. The good dwarves are on a deep-sea expedition to find a sunken/lost mine, and the abyssal dwarves are the new residents of said mine. I plan to build the core troops in a way that fit both faction. Diving suits and diving transport vehicles of two sides of the mine entrance. Their skin tone will be like World of Warcraft dark iron dwarves, or DND Duergar, to give them not a pure positive nor negative look. I'm not yet sure which minis I'll take, because there is close to zero stuff that I can use as it is, but I'm confident the combination of 3d printing and green stuff will work something out :)
As I said, this will be a future thing, but I'm busy already with planing how to arrange the (good dwarf) bases and printing underwater scatter and terrain pieces so far :)

But back to the undead.. I'm finishing something atm, and will post it shortly!

Definitely feels good to be here again :)

Welcome back! Whoohoo! Another True Blood returns!

The forum has been doing well since it's return early last month, lots of new bloods and old guard posting frequently!

I also play Kings of War! Been using Empire of Dust for years and I'm building Trident Realm and Brothermark (with High Elf minis).

Heeey :D yeah, hopefully this lasts!
Nice, in fact I wondered how many people converted to KoW after the end of fantasy. In my area it were quite a lot, but also many of them hoped for ToW to be released soon. And when it came, the hype for KoW imploded, only to recover when the first games were done and people realized that KoW is truly a great game! I recently got a ToW book set cheaply second hand, more for the curiosity than real interest. But we'll see.
Today I ordered a turn table for miniature presentation, and when it arrives, I'll start posting pics :) (not that my painting skill justifies a high level on presentation effort, but..that thing was pretty low priced , so I thought "why not" :D

KoW is such a great game. The setup and cleanup are so quick and there are a lot fewer rules issues. Great to see another player here! Also, facebook groups don't archive things very well so having a forum is such a boon! kowforum.com is pretty decent as well but hopefully we can get some peeps to join CN!

Looking forward to seeing your pics! I'm not a great painter either so no worries, friend!

Welcome back Theerteen! I've been casting Invocation of Nehek like mad on the old forum members and it's brilliant to see another True Blood return to the fold! :vampire3:

Absolutely would love to see your Kings of War army, we support all Undead factions....and to be honest, for our members we love to see models from other factions as well xd So yep, feel free to post them all and very much look forward to it!

On the note of KOW, I'm not as familiar with it as others, so it would be great if those are are like you or Seneschal want to post any news updates, FAQ, releases etc, it would be very much appreciated (y) Also any tactics, articles etc xd

Sorry for my delay, and thanks for the re-welcome Disciple of Nagash :)
What I'm doing mostly at the moment is, as mentioned, still rebasing, but also pretty "seriously" working my physical pile of stuff. I turned 40 this year, and did a list of all the things that are realistic to paint in the next few years. There are a few classics (recently finished the old metal potato, the great unclean one), and some "fresher" stuff like Be'Lakor and his majesty, Nagash. I sold everything else which won't be realisticly used or doesn't match my recommendations for being cool enough for itself to be a display piece. All in all what is left now is achievable to finish in one lifetime, that was the goal of the list :D
But of course there are... distractions sometimes, and it happens that I built something completely different...like this thing here - I call it the AT-ST(eam).
One of those crazy STL designers (https://www.patreon.com/landorminiatures?utm_campaign=creatorshare_fan) published a steam tank, and called out a competition - with his collection of imperial army STLs as price. And while I'm not sure how exactly he chose the winners, I'm one of them and pretty happy with the result :)

And for KoW updates - I'll gladly share what is new when I know more about (my) army building for the system. With a little luck I'll play most likely the last third edition game in the next days, and after that it might be a few weeks or even months adjusting to the new edition.

I was going to say you was being far too sensible Theerteen, seeing stuff and reducing your pile of shame, but I see you made it up by sharing that beautifully bonkers AT-ST! Love the imagination on that, it's brill! I see he's also got a full zombie pirate range :zombie4:

😄 thanks, it was a few days of fun!

The last time I was active here I was merely engaged with my now-wife, meanwhile two kids stepped up the game a little 😆 obviously they are a big part of the "what is possible to achieve in my remaining time", to be unnecessary overdramatic :D
But the hobby still is a, if not the biggest part of my free times, and I still enjoy everything, especially painting. Modelling/converting has suffered a bit due to my printer purchase, so things like the competition are an appreciated variety.

Sooo new year new post 🫠
And first, happy new year everyone!
I sincerely apologize for being notably absent. Without any good excuses I didn't manage to take some more (postable) pictures, and then suddenly it was Christmas, NYE, and then I decided to become as sick as I haven't been for a year or so.. I'm still rotting on the sofa while my wife handles more or less everything in the house alone, including the kids, who of course are at home because of kindergarten closing time. In normal, non-sickness-times, we are pretty much half-half in everything, which makes it even worse not being able to do my part of all the work.

But for the good news, I've set up my (first) list for my upcoming Kings of War Abyssal Dwarf army, and will start working on the basing setup as soon as I'm recovered enough again. My tabletop group has already played the first matches, and the 4th edition seems to feel pretty good. Shooting is more or less degraded to a weakening foreplay, and dynamic movement and melee combat have taken the crown. The whole game has become much quicker. Undead suffered a big nerf IMHO, by not getting any movement bonus at all, while every other army by default got a major upgrade, but we'll see how that turns out.
Back to the dwarves. I know most of you won't be much interested, but for those of you who are, here is the list for the army I'll build up the next months. It doesn't reach the full 2300 points because of spells and items I'll try out. Based on this list I'll print and prepare my next entries here :)

Hi!
I have started assembling the basing pic. There are still decorative elements missing (debris, mushrooms, maybe skulls), but it's a start. I participate in the Slow Grow Challenge that Mantic started, which means there are 4 blocks of 6 weeks each to accomplish an army of 2000 pts., and is followed by a gaming campaign which determines, or at least influences the future Kings of War narrative and lore. That challenge comes to a pleasant time :)

The army of evil Dwarves is meant to inhabit an old, long forgotten dwarven mine, so we have partly complete, but also a lot of damaged structures, covered by fauna and shadows. But for the moment, it looks like that:
