Adam Barrow - Disturbing The Peace Of The Dead

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
@Burnanation Thanks! Good news at the bottom of this post for you.
@Noobafrass I think I'm probably going to start the Nurses, first. I doubt I'll get them finished before I jump to something else, so the Horrors might get wrapped after I lose steam on the Vargs.
@frankenstine The missus seems to like how the old noggin works. Personally, I'm surprised she can stomach more than a few minutes of me a day. Be careful what you wish for!

Alright, this is what we'll call the end of Book One for this plog. I've built everything I'm going to build for the list I'm working towards. With the exception of the Mortis Engine, which I'm going to have to paint on, then assemble in painted parts because it'd be a pain to build then paint. (This means *Spoilers* the Engine is probably going to be the last thing I finish in this army.) But here's everything else built, and some of it with paint on it.

Vampire Lord on Abyssal Terror.
x2 Necromancers
Wraith
x2 30 Ghoul horde
x20 Zombies
x6 Crypt Horrors
Spirit Host
x4 Vargheists
Terrorgheist
Mortis Engine

The reason for this seemingly pointless post? It's all down to the painting from here, so updates from this point will be paint updates. Hopefully this doesn't mean there'll be an eternity between updates.

Thanks for all the kind words so far, everybody. It's been very reassuring.

@Melle That's a Varghulf with a bunch of gravestones and bats on his base. And steal away. Chances are anything cool I'm doing I've seen here or there on the internet anyway. Share and share alike. Oh, and cheers for the +1 Rep!

Just popping in long enough to mark this, my 666th post. :devil2:

Should be starting on the Blackhearts this week. Stay tuned, sinners.

Just a quick pop in tonight to announce the good news. My Abyssal Terror bits came in the mail finally! Now, I know I know, she's like the red-headed stepchild of the VC mounts. But because I'm going for a Necrarch theme, there was really no buts about it. My Lord will be riding a stitched together monster, cackling madly all the while. Plus I've had a decent go with him mounted thusly in the list I'm building towards--never lost him, and I play against Empire, artillery-mad OnG, and now Dwarves on the regular.

You'll all recognize what I consider the only way to model an Abyssal, I'm sure. Raven Torrid's the Master Necrarch behind this idea, and all praise be unto him (plog here: https://www.vampirecounts.net/Thread-Raven-s-Nest-O-Bones-Update-12-06-Painted-Zombie ).

Haven't been around for a while so I have seen this just now. I am really glad and honoured that my work inspired you! Thanks for the props and kind words.
It's awesome, spot on! That Necrarch/Renegade Psyker fits perfectly. =) Liking the rest of the army as well, looks proper menacing. :D (might have to "upgrade" my lousy looking Corpse Cart... :innocent: )

Superb job on the conversions.

The Nightmare using the Tyranid parts reminds of a Tomb Kings conversion I saw a while ago in Boston, but I think yours works better.

Look forward to seeing it painted.

@Raven Torrid I've seen another gribbly after your fashion since I've made mine. Johnny's got a really cool looking spiny ZD. Thanks for the inspiration!

@Krosis I've got a bit of paint on the Abyssal, but nowhere near enough to show right now. But soon. Thanks for the kind words!

@Sunny Cheers, man. Do you have models up someplace? I'd be interested in seeing what you've got lying around too.

Holy Hell, it's been ages! Big thanks to Santa for all the impetus to get the brushes back out recently. I'm sure you're all familiar with his Challenges, but check out his Monthly Pledge thread (here: https://www.vampirecounts.net/Thread-Monthly-Pledge ). So here's Nikolas and his familiar, Lydia. She's helping him cast from the Cursed Book. I had a blast doing this model, from assembly to finished paint job. I wish it all went according to plan like this one did.

The blue on the spellbooks in my army is the only time this color is used for the whole force. It's a throwback to the old dark blue spellbooks described as being used by the lich Fistandantilus. I'm sure I don't have to tell anybody here what book series that's from.

Here's hoping I can keep it up. Thanks for the kind words, everybody.

When someone has a beard like that, you just know they are evil.

The blood covered pages of the book might help too xD  Nice job!

@Adam_Barrow: Great PLOG  It has encouraged me to get started on one of my own.

Lots of great ideas here. Love the corpse cart (like everyone else it seems). The rat familiars for your Necros is a cool idea. I like the creative deaths you have thought up for your Crypt Ogres.

And the icing on the cake, the lovely ladies of the night on horrific horses/vargheists (if you can get one of them painted you are a serious contender for my vote in the May challenge).

Look forward to seeing your army painted up ;)

@Wolfen I've seen him, yes. Nice to see another fan.
@Raven Torrid @Shareya Thanks, guys. I really like the way his book turned out too, and the beardy heads really do it for me.
@BloodbathMcGrath The rats are becoming my favorite part of the army. Cheers.
@Santa Thanks for stopping in. I'm glad you liked what you saw.
@robtion Thanks for all the praise! I'll put getting one of the nurses finished by then high up my priority list.

So the month of April is best left untalked about.

I'm going to work on Zombies! My Zombie unit, while being a bunker for Taft and Nikolas, is kinda going to by my catch all for some good old fashioned fun undead models. I'm throwing in unit fillers, homemade dudes, lucky auction site finds, the works. Here's my ~50 Numbskulls that are about to get a serious overhaul. I'm cutting those big unit filler bases into 5 or 6 small ones, repainting a lot of what's on the stock GW Zombies, and there's lots of little easter eggs in the unit.

My Zombie unit holds 8 undead Warhammer races, which I am rather proud of. See if you can spot them all! First to name all 8 gets some +1 Rep for knowing their older models/being able to guess what I cobbled together out of skeleton bits.

Yes, those are a few LotR AotD models, and they don't count. You guys have probably noticed I want a lot of Ethereal stuff in my units. I think a Necrarch army should look haunted. I'm getting back to the wardesk tomorrow after work. Expect some base arranging/minor repairs, that kinda thing. Pictures soon.

And hey, is that a Skaven Poison Wind Globadier back there? He'd make for a passable Brass Orb Engineer, I'll wager.

"We are the revenants, and we will rise up from the dead." The Distillers (I Am A Revenant)

Let's see... :)

1) Giant
2) Goblins - Zomblins from Titan Forge?
3) Orc - Cursed Company
4) Dwarves - Cursed Company
5) Beastmen? - Ram head on skeletal body
6) Tzeenchian undead? - Bird head on skeletal body
7) Skaven - Cursed Company? (not sure on this one, the right brown mini on the last picture)
8) Humans - Regular GW Zombies

Also the dual hammers guy on the first pic, guessing it's one of the Cursed Company named characters, but don't know the name.

* If the horse on the Giant base was alive (undead that is), it would be 9. xD EDIT: Ah, Warhammer races...oh well. =)

Now, onto praises. Great, diverse unit...exactly what I wanna do with mine, pretty much after the same models. :)

7 of 8, Raven. Though one race isn't represented like how you think it is, so you've actually got two to identify. And the Dwarf in the front line is a Stonehaven guy named Goram. He's gunna be my standard bearer when I get a flag pole strapped to his back. http://stonehavenminiatures.webstorepowered.com/Stonehaven-Miniatures-Dwarf-Undead-Miniature/dp/B00AKN3L12

@Raven Lizardman makes 8. +Rep coming your way. Good eye, sniper.
@Theerteen Glad I can make your day a little more peculiar.
@Santa I love the Marshes models. I keep putting off buying some. And glad I can show you a LotR Ghost sprinkling in action. I'm happy with it.

Man, it's been a meandering sort of hobby time lately. Got some of the unit filler base kajiggering done, but not worth pics really. Kinda fiddling, really. The cool news is I found the last 6th Ed Necrarch model I need to have the whole Bloodline, including Melkhior and Zacharias. Looking forward to having some fun paiting these dudes up. I always like characters.

Anyway, sorry for the absence. I've stopped forcing myself to paint, and instead I've been trying to recognize when I'm in the mood to do it. Grinding felt like punishment, not fun time enjoyment game for fun. Here's what I've done with my toys lately. Enjoy all the WIPness:

@Raven When the missus moved out to do school I moved in a guy I've lived with off and on for years, and he's finally getting into warhammer. High Elves, natch. Those bits lying around are actually from a Pathfinder character's model of his that I helped him build. Also, Pathfinder is really fun if you're like us and hated 4th Ed. D&D.

In other news, thanks ebay! The gang's all here!
