In my area we only slide to to engage the maximum number of enemy models... If you want to short your own attack there after its your perogative. but sliding is rarely an issue as we dont get much major clipping. If say one model is out we will usually leave it as is as its not going to make or break a combat usually.

Before the whole sliding FAQ we just said that if you couldnt engage at least half rounding up of the enemy's models in the charged flank then the charge was failed.

While I acknowledge that clipping can also be abused, the bottom line of all of it is that INTENTIONAL sliding or clipping is the preferred attack of a cheesy git. And unless it's a tournament, a cheesy git won't find many people to play more than once. :)

Im happy to see this topic discussed. This was always a major issue, and still is on Lorenz. I cant tell you how many times Ive had an unbreakable spawn or a beast of a char be able to hit a unit that might be able to kill it with all the models touching, but instead get worn down little by little and not be able to attack back.

This is a topic that we have solidified in our local play area. If you can touch, you move that max distance to get as much in then you wheel in and slide for max hittage. ALWAYS. No zombies beating people from SCR, no solo chars killing 2 knights and getting no attack backs, no spawn tying a whole block unit up with no attacks coming back, and no questions about when its fair to and not to.

I dont mind that a unit can charge me and catch me by 1/4", because I can do it in return. It promotes more combats IMO instead of 3 rounds of manuevering to make sure you get the real combat line. In our area, if the unit can touch it at all, it can get into combat.

The latest problem has been the whole charging a unit and another sitting right next to it and the whole less than 1" away being pulled in fiasco. I might just start a new thread about that problem.

Just my thoughts, sorry so long. I tried breaking them up into para's for easier reading.

In the first case, all of those models should be maximised as normal. There's a difference between clipping and cheating.

However you're seeing a sad consequence of playing the sliding route- you give people an inch, and reward sloppy play, and they just come back and demand more, like the ridiculous "drawn in" suggestion from the FAQ.

I can agree it has moved this direction from there, thats why I figure if everyone gets close enough to touch, you can rely on that, you just have to know that a unit can move say 8" and that this point here is over 8" away no matter what. We just play accordingly. It eliminatesa lot of problems. Now when I move onto the Lorenz site to play some games, its always a debacle, so I just ask how they play before hand and change my playstyle accordingly. Ive been playing long enough to work the game both ways.

Its good to hear different views from people all over on this one.
