Hey everyone in 2 weeks time I will be flying from New Zealand to America for a 3 week holiday and was wondering are there any other wargaming or book shops that are the same or better than Game Workshops. I am going to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Diego and was wondering if there are any places that sell cheap Warhammer books or models.
cheers

Well, I'm nowhere near the Southwest. But independent game stores often have a standing discount on GW products, usually 10%. Mostly they do this to stay competitive with GW's own retail and web stores. (Only GW would aggressively compete with the businesses that sell most of their product.) And partly I think they do it out of spite, because GW, as a company, are such bastards to deal with.

The only store that I know of in Los Angeles would be the GW battle bunker, which is actually pretty cool, but I know that's not what you're looking for. I actually live in one of the bastard suburbs of Los Angeles called Santa Clarita, and there's an amazing store called Paper Hero's Comics if you're unfortunate enough to be staying in the area. Though let me know if you find anything in San Diego :) I'd love to move there eventually.

Oh, and in Las Vegas (more near the outskirts of it) there's a store (Dark Horse something or other) that carried a nice amount of fantasy product last time I was there. Not sure how the fantasy scene is there, but its a pretty large store, and the people who work there are pretty cool :)

Hey everyone been a while since anyone has replied to this post but thought I should update you on what I got halfway through my American trip. In San Diego in a hobby shop called Game Towne I got the current White Dwarf for $8 and the Tomb kings army book for $32.5 US which I found cheap compared to what I pay back in NZ even when you convert the money. At Los Angeles I went to the Game Workshop as I have never been in one before and wanted to see what it was like the manager was a good salesman I originally started of buying the Bretonnian knight omnibus  novel then the manager convinced me into buying the Vampire Count Battle force and the new Terrorgheist/ vampire dragon  for $186.5 US using up the rest of my money I saved ( originally had $660 Us but got a laptop for $400 as well as the warhammer stuff), I am planning on assembling it as the Terrorgheist as I like the model and need a new rare choice. Only got a few days of my holiday left so me and my family  are planning on going to Disney land and Universal Studios for the last few days then will have to get a 15 hour plane trip back to NZ so probably won't be back on until I get back home.
Bye
