Hi there,

after years of playing and collecting 40k armies (Death Guard, Tyranids and Ultramarines), I am finally drawn back to the fantasy game. I started the hobby with this fantastic race. I was 24 then, 37 years old now. So a long Games Workshop career already. Always drawn to the necromantic lores (I used to collect and play Magic the Gathering, guess which colour was my favorite ;)).
With the start of 8th edition, I thought it time to literally resurrect my undead. New skills, new models and new paints after all these years...
I must learn how to play and get to know the army book. Your forum is the best place to visit!
I'm currently hopping from one unit to another, not having a specific army build in mind.
I made a horde of ghouls, about 40 (still WIP) and I am working on new and repainted zombies. I made my first Blood Dragon (out of the new plastic HE dragon princes). All my vampires will be female

Ghoul unit:

The two ghouls on the socket knocked down the statue, which squashed the ghoul on the ground. :grave:

welcome. Looks like your off to a good start. Lots of people are talking about using the new HE mounts as blood knights but i like your twist on them. I like your sense of humor with the ghouls too

Hey there and Welcome to the forum!

It looks like you're off to a good start. That ghoul unit looks really good.

I also like the unitfiller ;)

The blood dragon looks perhaps a little bit too elfish, but that might just change with a good paintjob, which should be no problem for you from what I can see on your painted stuff.

What did you use for the head? Daemonettes?

Yup!

Neck WIP

I want to paint them all a bit different. If you read the fluff about the Blood Knights you'll know why. To make it not too incoherent, the vampire riding the horse will have the same colour as the barding.

Welcome to CN!

Really like your idea about the female Blood Knights and them implementation is fanatastic. Really nice choice of parts and the paintjob really does it justice. Looking really forward to seeing the completed unit.

The Ghouls look good too, I'm very fond of the Heresy Ghouls as well.

Those knights look truly great. The daemonette heads work incredibly well, dare I say a stroke of genius. I was about to ask what you used for the foliage/ivy on the pillar in the ghoul unit, but I see it's from the citadel woods set. It works great, I'll be robbing that idea. Keep those kit-bashing gems coming!

I am not sure I will use this standard. Maybe I'll choose the banner which comes with the dragon princes, maybe another standard... the dragon on top looks like a swan

Finished the first and took time to take pictures. Also shot the vampire countess I painted some time ago.

I really like the blood knights and also agree with Mr Saturday that they're one of the best conversions I've seen so far. I'm planning to convert my own blood knights from Dragonprinces, too, and although I'll probably keep them male I might borrow one or the other idea if you don't mind ;).

The Vampiress is cool as well, but you might want to add another highlight to the skulls on the base.

Keep it up,

Dogmar

That is some amazing work right there, may have to swipe a few ideas for myself. ;)
Don't forget the mordheim female vamp model however, she is quite dishy. :P

Loved black as well, piety my green MTG deck was always better though. :(

Ok in your army you need to think of what must you have?

I will not go to huge size here, I will say 1000 points and after that add what you think.

Now you need 2 units of 30 ghouls + ghast. 496 points
1 corpse cart as standard just for the bound spell. 75
1 necro with additional spell so you have invocation for sure. 70
1 vamp hero, summon ghouls (so you can increase to 40, never use full units) entire lore of vampires, flayed hauberk, dragonbane gem. 180
12 Grave guard + co 150
995 Total.

This list works for me 95% of the time, a few issues fighting chaos warriors but who does not. :P
Ghouls should always be your armies backbone.
They have nearly every stat higher not to mention the extra attack and poison really helps.
In larger games though try and see if you can get a black coach in there. :)

I must say, since nobody has mentioned it (DoN, shame on you!), that your greenstuffed boobs look amazing.

There, that's done.

I -love- the Zombie unit filler! It's simply astounding to me how much fun those zombies are going to have trying to find the poor guy's juicy, edible parts. How do zombies get through breastplates anyways? The army is very unified, and the vampire characters are something I can Identify with as I'm doing a lahmian themed army myself.

All female Vampires is amazing when done correctly, and it appears you know how to do it correctly. Bravo, and keep em coming. :D

I am surprised no one mentioned it before: As far as I love the conversion work (:O), I don't think the blue and violet colour scheme works well for a Blood Knights, especially when you consider they are converted from HE Dragon Princess (who are usually painted blue) and Daemonettes of Slanesh (who are usually painted slaaneshi violet/purple). I mean, the model itself looks fine, but I would not recognize it as a Blood Dragon if you didn't tell me. And I know you painted one of them in red at first, which I think was much better choice.

Well, that's just my opinion anyway. Feel free to ignore it if you don't like it, I am just trying to help you make your gorgeous Blood Knights look even better.

Wait kerrigan has greenstuff boobs or do you mean her models?

I disagree with youngolo about the blue. As a blue army painter there is no reason to paint the blood knights in red. And your painting on them is superb!! I love how thin you have the blue over your basecoat on the horses barding, perfect.

I will be stealing your idea here, or better yet stealing your models since the color would work so well with my army. where do you live? :devil2:

I live in the Netherlands  You´re welcome to come over.

Please be inspired by my work, it goes for all readers of this blog. And steal my ideas, I would be honoured.
As for the colour scheme, I am trying some different colour on all 5 of them. The Kastellan will be a mix of red and hawk turqoise which makes a kind of purple. I guess some colours will be better than others, but fluff wise they are all a bit different, coming from all over the place after the reunion.

Sneak peak of my coming project (I am dancing from one to the other, for the needed variation in my work). The skull is from a Halloween "black rose with a skull flower". Aprox. $1,50! You guessed it right I bought a whole vase xD It's hard to get realistic looking skulls. Most Halloween stuff is too ugly to use.

Its a very nice skull and at a bargain price, what is it going to be though when you paint it, a statue of somekind or just a big skull? Looking good
