I'm sorry if I have misinformed everyone. I really didn't think of the 1-X part as you need to include all the different units. In this case, the whole rule is utterly useless. And if the general consensus is that they don't crumble in the hands of another army, it tares the lore a new one. "my necromancer will crumble when my vlord dies, but your brightwizard will sustain your wight king for sure". My new army consists of 5BKs, 20skellies, a WK and 200 GG

Thank you for the list anyway JR

Paying the 25% core makes using this formation difficult, but I think it has promise. I mean, 2 march bubbles? Oh my Guinness.

So as I understand it, you can use this all you want for VC, and then if you are allowed allies, you can use this as an ally in the applicable armies.

Remember that if they release more formations, this says that you can combine formations. Does not state any limitations for doing so...

But yeah. 1 WK, with 1-2 BK, and 1-2 GG, AND at least 1 unit of 20 skellies. The skellies nearly kill it for me, but I have a list I am itching to try that I am gonna post in the other forum.

So... all units have options for equipment / magic items and such, like any regular VC army? D:

I don't quite understand

Well, options are always good... And this will make some "fun" armies a little more workable. For example, the old "necromancer raises a wight army" bit, which has usually used the above units anyway, can now have black knight units that can march when separated from the slower necromancer, who could but skeletons as his own core requirement and then maybe use master of the dead to double up on invocation with the two units...

So you'd have a block of grave guard up the middle, supported by two blocks of skeletons on the flank that grow thanks to MotD, and a free ranging unit of black knights led by a wight king.

Can non-formation units benefit from the formation wight king's march bubble? If so, maybe try a mounted necromancer with the staff of damnation to accompany the black knights, and capitalise by taking multiple, smaller units?

Not ideal, but at least wight armies now have a shot at a fast moving flanking unit. And raising 1d6+4x2 skeletons and doubling the attack output of BKs easily sets us up for a fun magic phase.

My iBook just updated - it now includes a statement saying that it is a formation for any army chosen from Warhammer: Vampire Counts. So clears that up. No, Karl Franz, you cannot have a Wight King... you can choose to serve us though.

Since the update I can no longer click on "death mission" or "master of undeath" (special rules for this formation). *facepalm GW* However there is a way to search for it. They clarify (not sure if this is new) that if you're within 12'' of the nominated enemy unit/terrain you crumble 1 less from instability or death of general.

Also not sure if this is new: the wording on Master of Undeath says: 'the wight king and all units in this formation ...' can march. I dont know if this wording was changed at all, but reading this now I can see an argument to allow joined characters the same benefits. Here's why...

The BRB talks about "models joining a unit". Any character joining a unit becomes part of the unit - leadership is a prime example. There's nothing in this battlescroll that talks about models specifically - just the units of the formation. So i think that if you threw a hero-level vampire, or Krell in one of these units as part of deployment (nothing saying you can't), they should gain the benefits of the formation. In this case, march and anti-crumble.

Lol. Same as some of the 40k ones not having the titles at the tops of the pages changed from the inquisition supplement. Just lazy and poor poor form.

So if you have formation of 500pt in a 2000pt game, you still need to use 25%*2000pt=500pt in core? Yikes :/ Or would it be 25%*1500pt?

Oh well, I'll be trying it out anyways cause it sounds cool :D

the former - you'd need to pay the points for core on their own but as a percentage of the total army size. It's really just a min skeleton tax of 100 points - the rest is good!

I see a lot of good out of this, if only for the second march bubble.

Lets you run the BKs with a WK and go off to flank or whatever like real knights.

But no, you cannot use Krell in this. It is a Wight King specifically.

It just gives options to play it differently. I think with this, you can run a bit faster than you normally would if you have to be spread out. Cannot wait to give it a try.
