Don't get me wrong, I love the vampire counts, and im still going to keep collecting them.
But I am going to start a Warriors of Chaos Army, the lure of the Chaos Gods is just too strong to resist. Their main troops (Warriors) just look so badass in that heavy armour, and I can build an all plastic army (I love plastic kits, especially when you can interchange all the parts between the whole army) (i.e. chaos warrior bits, chaos knight bits, etc all can mix nicely)

So yeah, as soon as I have some money, expect to see chaos warriors, knights, warhounds and a daemon prince in my plog :)

What I am unsure of is just which chaos gods to choose. It is probably going to be an undivided army, and will eventually feature units themed around all four gods in the long run, but which gods to feature first?
Also, which units to use?

I am not a terribly big fan of the look and feel of marauders, and the. The main attraction to the army for me is the chaos warriors and chaos knights. The idea of these menacing looking figures in massive armour with horns and the such marching to battle is something I very much like.

So I know my first purchases will definatly be chaos warriors and chaos knights, aswell as a Daemon Prince to lead (that kit is just impossible to resist) In addition to those, I will probably pick up some warhounds (as they are a nice looking kit aswell and should add some mobility to the force).

Now that I think of it, I would like to make the army purely out of plastic kits if possible. This means it will be easy to collect, cheaper and will leave me with lots of spare bits to use throughout the army (I love mixing and matching bits from different kits)
So I am thinking..
Chaos Trolls (converted from orc river troll kits)
Chaos ogres (converted from ogre kingdoms plastics)
A Giant (giant kit)
Chaos Spawn (spawn kit)
Chosen (either converted from warriors or these could be an exception to the plastic rule)
I may use some metals for characters aswell (at first that will be covered by the plastic daemon prince however)
also, a warshrine is a possibility, but that would take some converting.

Any thoughts, Ideas, etc, on the various units? Any advice?

You'd do well to include a Battle Standard Bearer as soon as you can as well. The WoC can still lose their close combats from time to time, and you'll be smacking yourself for not bringing the re-roll stick along.

An idea I had back when I was into the WoC was to use the Beastmen Minotaurs as a stand-in for Dragon Ogres. I figured that their muscly appearance and size would set them apart nicely enough from the other critters in the army, and I really fancied painting them up with dark blue skin and bright metallic equipment à la the Night Lord monsters from Diablo II. :clown:

Hmm... A BSB sounds like a pretty good idea. Will have to find a suitable mini for him.
Hmmm... perhaps a beastman for a BSB....

They can't have beastmen since the new warriors of chaos and beastmen books but nothing stops you from using some beastmen models as stand in's or such. I think Cuzzy might be looking at the old 6th edition books.

As for which marks to start with Tzeentch gives you some very good anvil units of warriors because with hand weapons and shields they get 3+ armor and a 5+ ward in combat because the parry save is a ward and their mark improves any ward save by one.

For hard hitters Khorne is one of the best marks if you want to rip through enemy units.

Nurgle has the advantage of making the enemy strike at them with one less BS or WS depending on which is being directed at them.

Slaanesh has the whole immunity to fear terror and panic so there not bound to go anywhere but forward.

Undivided is well exactly that undivided so they just have the normal re-rolling of panic checks but do cost less then marked units and characters.

So if you want good anvil units good magic and some hard hitting Tzeentch and Khorne to start with possibly.

Hmmm the slaanesh one sounds tempting but I don't think chaos warriors have too much to fear from psychology in comparison to other armies.
I think my main block or two of warriors will run with HW/S and Marks of Tzeentch, an improved ward save should be nice and handy to keep them alive.
The Mark of Khorne sounds handy for chaos knights (will want them to do as much damage as possible, as quickly as possible to avoid being eaten by extended combats)

Well the immunity to panic is pretty handy but yeah there isn't too much they should fear with BSB and LD 8 on their warriors.

They will only have a ward save on a 6 at range but if you manage to even save one or two then the mark certainly earned it's points back already.

Chaos knights are brutal even without a mark with their 2 S5 attacks due to their weapons being counted as magical and giving them a strength bonus of one then the 1 S4 attacks from their horses but marking them Khorne really adds some pain but expect them to get shot at a lot because of it.

Well I remember all the way back to 1st edition when Chaos Knights where incredibly scary supercavalry. Its kinda traditional to make them as insanely killy and scary as possible.
A banner or item that confers a ward save to them may be a good idea however.

The blasted standard would be a good idea or mark them Tzeentch and give them the banner of rage making them frenzied which gives them at least a 6+ ward save from the mark but blasted is pretty good.

Edit: Just to add to this point I made a Tzeentch marked unit of knights would make the blasted standard a 4+ ward against all attacks made in the shooting phase.

whoops yeah sorry been lookin´ through the older books
Too bad the wargor BSB is a rare oop because it´s a damn cool model and would look good in any chaos army.

I've always liked the idea of a WoC army but I feel the latest army book where you can have Tzeech characters leading a whole nurgle army just not keeping with the fluff. However good luck with your army!

have you considered Halberds for you troop blocks?
by using the lances from the knight sprue and a bit of arm remodelling you can make some awsome looking models and being I5 S5 in CC is not something to sniff at

Yeah I'm not overly thrilled with the gods being buddy buddy but nothing forces you to play Tzeentch with Nurgle or Khorne with Slaanesh heck if I was going to do that I would need to think of something that would make them cooperate together at least for that battle or something.
