Sorry im still getting used to this place sorry if i put it this in the wrong area, But yeah i have been thinking how i want to play vc, i am the only person who plays vc in my local gaming group surprisngly. Well basicly im wondering on peoples opinion playing armies that capitalize on fast moving units.

I think The Sun King just posted up a fast list. Might check in Legions of the Damned for his thread. Or i'm sure he'll see your post here before long and will be able to weigh in. I'm pretty sure Sunny lives in the forums now.

As for your question, I like a fast list using a lot of the Vampiric units we have, but the tendency for people to fill their core with Dire Wolves seems like a bad choice to me. Not much killing power there. But the problem with using quick Vampire units is your foot sloggers get left out of the march bubble.

It can work, but you'll need to build your list with movement in mind.

Before people flood this thread with max direwolf core there is something called too much chaff.

Personally one of our best special choices is fast and vampiric while being super cheap. Blooda and Ghulfs also work well but need to be played skillfully tO work at all.

Also Sunny may of caught my curse

I just reread my post and it might be confusing. I was in no way suggesting you run all-Dire Wolf core. That would be a mistake in my opinion.

No it was fairly straightfoward, i know its' not the best idea, though as im still kind of mezmerized by a few units like spirit hosts, hex wraiths, dire wolves etc. Im trying to ground myself before i do anything too stupid/rediculous. I have only played 1 game so far.

I've had similar issues and have hit on using the core as a bunker. Imagine your list as two waves. Have a solid core of zombies and ghouls etc and stick at least a necro in there. It's your min core with some raising ability.

Move these units up behind your fast stuff to protect against rear and possibly even flankers. Zombies work well here as most very fast stuff struggles with large units. Even power units will be held for enough time to reset your mainline to deal with them.

If you move the infantry first your general (if on a steed should still be in range for most of the battle as well so careful deployment and movement can also be key. Having Danse in the book can also help to pull an infantry unit forward as well so that's another option.

Hope that helps

The VC Knight Bus is probably the "best" tournament list, but I've since moved on after my tournament success with it, and will be adopting an Infantry-based list under ETC guidelines. With the bus, yes, it is smart to take as many Wolf units as you can fit under the guidelines, backed up maybe by 1 very large Zombie unit, or even 40 Ghouls to deliver fight and fill points in a small footprint, while still allowing for 5 units of Wolves to hit your 600.

In Infantry, it's obviously different. Due to the max 3 of any kind of unit, I am currently rolling with 3x 5 Wolves, 40 Skeletons w/ FC, +1M Banner, and 2x 40 Zombies w/ Music.

Again, this is under ETC guidelines. Max 40 models per unit, etc. The Skeletons get 3 Wraiths, a VC Lord on Foot w/ Vamp, BSB Wight King, 2x Level 1 Death Necros to snipe at LD10 from safety, and a Level 4 Master Necro w/ Vampire.

The Core works fine. Zombies theoretically work in place of Skeletons, but the lack of a Champion means 1 less character you get to safely keep in the 2nd rank, plus no magic Banner, and you end up needing to fill *more* Core points since you no longer make the 600-point threshold at 2400, and can't take any more Wolves.

In all honesty, fill the Core however you want, you can't go wrong in most situations unless you take a bunch of Skeletons for some reason. Just don't go much over min. Core, since the rest of our book is where we do the damage.

I took 4 units of zombies and 2 units of wolves. Seemed to work pretty well. A lot of your core set up will depend on your heroes. If you have lots of invocation than zombies are fun. If you are avoiding magic should may be bett.er. if your camp lord is going to be off by himself your core won't be able to march and you have to take that into consideration

Your choices will be mostly limited to your points.
I've had a lot of fun with a Terrorghiest, varghiests, fell bats, and a bender lord on an AT @ 3k. Lots of fast flying movement.

BUT it's all built around a solid core of skellies and zombies and heroes.

If you're going to dive into a way to play I would start with some "safe" choices. Stuff you know how to use, and add one or 2 units fo fast different stuff.

Haha I do, don't I? Johnny bit me and now I'm cursed to walk these forums for eternity :D

Here is a fast "flying circus" style list that I've posted in the thread Adam refered to:

LORDS
Strigoi Ghoul King, Dragonbane Gem, DS, RF, Sword of Strife
Master Necromancer, Level 4 Wizard, Lore of Death, Talisman of Preservation

CORE
42 x Crypt Ghouls, Crypt Ghast
5 x 5 DW

SPECIAL
5 x Vargheists + Vargoyle
5 x Vargheists
5 x Vargheists

RARE
Varghulf
Varghulf
Black Coach

Total Army Points: 2500pts

This list is main vampiric so it's fast and doesn't have to be in the general's bubble. The Black Coach is a bit subpar and only there for fun, but you get the idea :D

Yeah it does certainly help with ideas, i have been also trying to figure out the right army compostionb to pull off succesfull pincer manuvers, I thinks that's what they are called, with my fast units on both right and left flanks with a good solid solid core of troops pushing up the center.

The Pincer Maneuver is good... but not for VC, the problem is that while a flank charge is pretty devastating for most units, multiple combats are really bad for VC. Consider this scenario: Your main fighting force the GG have pushed up the middle of board and engaged a big unit of enemy elite troops, then you get in a flank charge with some sort of Core unit... and this is where the trouble starts for a couple reasons:

1. While the GG are hard to kill, our core is not.
2. When the flanking unit starts getting attacked they will bleed combat resolution.
3. BOTH the GG and the core unit will both lose a number of wounds equal to the over all combat resolution.

Hope this helped :D

But doing these things is one of the best ways to learn how to play your new army
