I've got a tourney coming up and I have a vamp with the forbidden lore (?) ability and as the lore has to be selected and submitted with the list what should i go with? does any truly shine for vamps?

Yes, what else do you have in your list? Knowing that would help determine which lore could benefit you the most. :)

got a level 4 and a level 1 for vamp magic and a level 1 for the other, two blocks of skellies, 1 GG, wraiths, dogs and bats. The skellies and GG are 30 strong vamps are tooled to be able to slug it out

The best is probably Lore of Light.

Lore of Metal could be good too though, especially as one of the spells is for improving armour saves.

Also, Lore of Beasts can be interesting too; if you could get the amped up Savage Beast going with a few combat characters nearby and in combat... ouch.

Lore of Light, the only thing it misses is an augment to sterngth, just take another FL: Beast to get that.

I agree with both of the above. Lore of Light has the most awesome spell; Speed of Light. Lore of Beasts also has some nasty buffs, and also the ability to become a Great Fire Dragon is always nice. Although the +3S and +3A character buff is what I'm really looking at; you can power it up to effect all friendly characters within 12". Awesome?! xD

well, as some might know, im going beasts. there are a lot of choises that count as beastie in VC.
the lore provides +1 to your castingroll if its a warbeast, cav, monster, chariot and other things that uses beasts in general.

The buffs are pretty neat imho AND you have the ability to deal some decent damage with the S10 magical spear with D6 wounds! or the pesky missle with 2d6 s2 hits. so you have some pressure tools if buffs arent that great at a current magicphase. (which i very much like since turn 1, i dont go buffing ALL since it will get dispelled once something hits combat. depending on mislefire though)

Also, i think it depends on your units. Ghouls with T5 are pretty neat!
skeletons with T4 are not that good imho, due to the armorsave for wich you pay, but probably gets negated. This would be because wounding something with T4 usually has higher strenghts and thus, easily negates a 5+ save.
and there are other differences between units and lores... but i dont know them/the lores that well. but you can figure it out ;)

nice topic :)

Just glancing upon the lores i like lore of death with the special ability to generate new PD during the magic phase.

Do mine eyes deceive me? Does this mean my Corpse Cart could go RAWR on people? S 5 and 2D6 + 3 attacks? It's classified as a Monster, or a Monstrous Mount, so...Wow. I just fell in love with that, if I'm looking at this right.

well oni, i didnt look at it like that.

but im sure the BRB said 'chariots, warbeasts, cavalary, monsters' and more off that stuff, so yeah... it does imply to that i think. probably going to take a Corpsecart as well now!

or does it only imply to characters? the +3 A and +3S? i thought so...
so that shouldnt be possible then i guess.
however. you can give it +1T and +1S, right?
i forgot the precize spelling of the spells :P
thanks for pointing that out oni.

Necromancer on Corpse Cart, anyone? xD

Only the character component of the model would get the +3A +3S from that beast spell.

But now it just counts as a single profile. One, single monster. It's a bit RAW I know, but I don't see any holes in it.

Okham or whatever's Mind Razor spell on corpse cart = 2d6 S7 + D6 S7 attacks. (LD = Strength spell)

Eeek! xD

Can Corpse Carts still join units? If so imagine a unit of skeletons 5 wide, with a corpse cart on either side with Okkam's Mindrazor cast on it. 4D6 str 7 attacks on the enemy unit in b2b, along with 2D6 str 7 automatic hits. Ouch.

No, ridden monsters can't join units anymore, though flyers now can.

(Out with the corpse cart, in with the hellsteed).

ive read (somewhere in the BRB) that the transformation of khadon (or whatever its called) the 6th lore of beasts spell has the special rule so that the unridden monster, in which the caster transforms. CAN be in the unit. this is prolly the only exception i think.

I think that's an oversimplification, because monster characters can no longer join units.

It's because of the specific wording of the spell.

I have tried today against WoC the lore of beasts with a vampire level 1. Mostly I was spamming the signature spell (10+ casting value) which gives +1S & +1T along with the Helm of Commandment. 30 Ghouls with S4 T5 and WS7 are nasty and wiped out 15 warriors HS/W of Tzeentch with 5Ward.

It worths the try using it at least for one time to see :)
