SO here goes:

I was having a pretty lengthy discussion regarding what unit is the biggest threat in each army, which got me thinking.

What unit is actually our biggest threat to the enemy, pound for pound, point for point.
Yes we all know charas pose a big threat but realistically, which unit do we know, 9 times out of 10 can do a decent offensive job for us?

For me, it was a tough decision and was interested in your feedback regarding what you would think is the biggest threatening unit we have?

My Terrorgheist finds gainful employment in every list I write, and though she might get outshone in how many points she eats in a battle, I almost always think of her as my MVP. Melting high armor units the rest of my army has trouble with, harrying lone/small/backline units, drawing fire because she's so intimidating. The TG fills a role that VC have always needed.

The big bat may not always net more points than a blender or some Knights, but I never leave home without her.

(For conversation sake, I'd throw a lvl 4 Death Wizard high on this list too)

For my army the Grave Guard unit with dual vampires and sometimes a couple of wraiths for good measure.
I would say depending on your army list the biggest threat is either the Grave Guard, Black Knights, Terrorgheists or Blood Knights

I am really enjoying the Vargheists right now. I love to munch shooting units in turn 2. It's the most versatile unit we have (well, I think). Sometimes 1 rear/flank charge by a unit that can't be KBed wrecks havoc in enemies... even though they lack the mass to hold a combat. I love them because I hate shooting, haha.

Oh and as Tobias said, I feel a lot safer when I know I brought a Vampire Lord that can take on anything.

And I'm starting to get a feeling for the Black Coach. Big Units aside, it's the most trustworthy Unit I'd send to deal with something unpleasant, like a Bloodthirster.

Terrorgheists are, as Adam says, the best still.

I'm personally torn between the Terrorgheist and whatever unit is used to deliver the Vampire Lord into combat. Those are really the two things you must be able to counter if you're going to beat VC, at least as far as I'm concerned.

The BK bus and TG are menacing indeed, but I feel the unit(s) that keep opponents on their toes the most are our ethereal units. Be it a single spirit host, lone banshee, hexwraith unit, or wraith unit, opponents are very concerned having a fractional point investment disrupt their battle plans. Sure, some armies have built in defenses against it, but some have limited resources with which to deal. This makes them make huge mistakes, leaving little windows with which we can exploit. I'm sure we could fill pages and pages with tales of how a tiny SH held up a Stank, or unit of Mournfang, hydra, etc... or how a unit of hexwraiths ran rampant across opponents back line. Point for point they have their value right up there with the rest of our threats.

If there's one thing in my army that people try to get rid of quick fast and in a hurry it's the TG.

It's a flyer that can melt monsters and elite stuff with relative ease.

The model looks threatening, and I firmly believe that there is something to be said about peoples' reaction to something that appears threatening.

Did I mention it flies and shots the bejesus out of other mean scary things?

I think the only thing that would be scarier than a Terrorgheist are 2 or 3 Terrorgheists. But yeah, all the above mentioned things are certainly our better things. Had some bad luck with Ethereals, cuz a friend of mine plays Skaven, so it's Warp-this and Warp-that.

Depends on my opponent. My usual opponent is a wood elf player who is mildly obsessed with archers and war dancers. With him, little nippy units I can whizz around the battlefield - my dire wolves and (newly included) vargheists.

With everyone else, it's black knights. Never let me down yet and have single handed lt won the battle on more than one occasion.

What is interesting is that, universally, the unit everyone hates me fielding are grave guard as they just don't die and will eventually grind past all but the best enemy infantry.

I have to put in a vote for zombies. They can start out as a unit of 20, and quickly grow to a ridiculous tarpit for even the most choppy of things, and all for 70 points!

I don't have tested all the units yet. But recently i bought BlackK's and i love them! they get my vote.
The only thing i'm not sure off how many i would put in one unit.
