Black Coach Nightmares?

Well, in the new army book the black coach is pulled by nightmares instead of skelletal steeds. I for one think this is a great change in terms of fluff etc, but the problem is that the coach is now not WYSIWYG...

What horse models are there that would be good to pull the coach that i could get my hands on?

What have other people used for similar conversions?

Almost any of the plastic horses from the GW line would work so long as you painted it like a nightmare, I'd suggest using the new chaos marauder horses, I think those would look really nice pulling the Black Coach. I personally don't like the steeds on the black coach either. In fact, I don't really like the model in general, my black coach will be a converted one using the Mordheim Stage Coach as a base. The stage coach is a little more expensive, but its a really nice model.

yeah, they could work. I looked on the GW site, but the horse bitz packs came with 5 instead of being able to buy them singly

It may depend on what i use to convert my black knights from too

I wanted a black coach drawn by four horses, but I can't figure out a way to get 4 horses + the actual coach on a 50x100 base.

On a side note you can order single horses on bits sites.

Yeah, i think that might be what I'll do. See, I want my 'skelletal steeds' for my black knights to have barding, otherwise i'de just get some pistollers or maurader horsemen and use them as my black knights and to pull the coach

How about the vampire with the barded horse from 6th edition? I found him the other day on here and then found him again on GW website.

Bit too expensive if you ask me, it's a 20 dollar model, so 20 x 2 would net you another 40 bucks just for the mounts of your coach.

bretonian knights models or you can use the empire knights if you want we can trade somethidng I bought the box of empire knights today just for the legs =\ so if you wanna look at possibly trading stuff shoot me a pm =)

Realistically most tournies and people won't be bothered about such extreme examples of WYSIWYG. If if they are that silly with the rule book they need hitting over the head with it.

In regards to horses, well for barded steeds for Black Knights my preference is Bret horses, as they look the most dynamic, plus with rips to the clothes etc they can be made to look undead. You can also use the armoured Empire horses.

For the Black Coach, why don't you look at the steeds of Dark Riders for the DE? they are un-armoured and with the good paint job will fit the part perfectly.

Something that would be cool depending on the fluff you are using for your army would be to use any spare dire wolves to pull the BC

The best horses I have seen used on a black coach were a pair of Bretonian Pegasus Knight horses without the wings (it was a blood dragon army so the barding worked). The whole thing was built to look like the coach was flying off the edge of a cliff.

Since the coach can now fly (if you are lucky) modeling it in its flying state would be the best way to fit it on whatever sized base you want no matter how many horses you decide to have pulling it.

'Twas put on the table in my opponents army. I was so busy gawping at it that I didn't think to take pictures or roll anything but 1's and 3's the entire game....

Though maybe the latter was not the coaches fault.

That is one great idea. I might be trying to do that with my extra coach. Could you explain a bit more about how the person had placed the model, the cliff itself, how was it balanced, etc?
