Black Mountain Miniatures Vampire Counts

Starting a blog of my Vampire Counts army.

I started off with these nice skeleton warriors from Highlands Miniatures. These zombies are a mix from Highlands, and Last Sword Miniatures.

Part of my entry into 3D modeling was to repose some of the Highlands skeletons in Blender. I also used some of the heads from Saint Decent.

I made this zombie attack unit filler with a zombie from Highlands Miniatures (the standing one) as well as a creative sculpt from Last Sword miniatures, including the poor chap and attacking zombies on the ground.

And it wouldn't be a Vampire Counts army without a potent leader. I designed this model using Hero Forge. I didn't love that the cape had no obvious way it was held up and so I added the jeweled pendant and chain using this model from MMF.

I needed a necromancer, this is a very characterful sculpt from Highlands. I attempted some OSL from the spell effect, not sure how well I pulled it off, could also be poor lighting from these older pictures.

Awesome Varghulf sculpt from Collective Studio. It looks like they have closed their account, not sure if this model is still available for purchase. Imo it is the best Varghulf STL I have come across.

Grave Guard and Wight King. The Wight King is another Hero Forge design. The grave guard were an amazing deal from the aforementioned Saint Decent miniatures on MMF. At the time, they were free, now I think they are 2$. I modded them a fair bit in Blender to get the variety up. I have 40 painted, basing is still in progress. I also might do a bit more on the banner. Speaking of which, that was one of my first forays into from scratch sculpting. I traced a grim reaper outline and added texture in Blender. I then created the banner, with some tapestry edges, and finally, weathered it. I am currently working on some more cool VC banners for my own MMF store, which I just opened this week.

I'm up to about 100 zombies now. These are from Titan Forge. I also bought some from Monstrous Encounters. I don't love an overly cartoonish aesthetic that a lot of skeletons and zombie sculpts have; I modified the faces to be a little less exaggerated. I do really enjoy the sculpts as a whole though. A fair bit of my models are still in need of basing, I've been putting off to sort of handle all at once, but I should maybe tackle it at some point since there are some many models in the army. It's going to take the better part of a day.

I made this unit filler from the Swamp Shroom Zombies and a couple of Last Sword miniatures. It doesn't look like it is going to end well for the chap with the mace, but who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
