Hey guys,

Blood drinker: for each unsaved wound inflicted by the blood drinker, the wielder (or unit he is with) immediatly regains a single wound suffered earlier in the battle, as if invocation of nehek had been cast on them.

Question is this. Does this mean if i do 3 wounds (after saves) "example situation here" do i gain 3 wounds back as if ONE invocation of nehek spell was cast on me or 3 seperate invocations of nehek were cast on me (or the unit i was in ofcourse). If its EACH wound then effectively if i was down 2 wounds (started at 3 and i took 2 hits) i could gain them back and then have 1 more to throw on the unit. but if it is done as a single casting then my vamp could only ever regain a single wound and the left over 2 are discarded (unless i choose to take all 3 on the unit).

Which do you think it is? HUGE difference there...

Thanks in advance!

You can indeed heal your non vampire models. I've seen 3 blood knights raised back from the dead on one combat phase and unless i'm mistaken they still get their attacks that turn.

Ricw,

I know i can choose between the vamp or unit im in. The question was if EACH wound is a separate spell or all wounds = 1 spell. Its the difference of regaining multiple wounds on non infantry units or just 1 no matter how many unsaved wounds were inflicted.

Example: Vamp lord with blood drinker in a unit of black knights. Vamp lord has taken 1 wound and the unit has taken 2 unsaved wounds. Vamp lord swings and does 5 wounds, opponent saves 2 of these wounds. Therefor leaving 3 unsaved wounds. 2 ways to interpret the outcome.

Result #1: each wound is a separate casting of Invocation of Nehek. So the vamp gets his 1 wound back so hes back at 3 wounds on his profile and the remaining 2 wounds go onto the unit of black knights, bringing the 2 from the dead back into play!

Result #2: each wound is added up and cast 1 time. I then would have to choose either the vamp lord or the unit to gain the wounds. The vamp and mounted knights can only ever get 1 wound PER CASTING of Invocation of nehek. So even though i did 3 unsaved wounds im only ever getting 1 back to the unit in case or vamp.

Conclusion? I hope its Result #1! Hence why i need a clarification!

It clearly states for each wound inflicted the unit or vamp regains ONE wound.

The line of "as if invocation of nehek had been cast on them" is just showing you the method but it is as if you roll a one.

What Spartan said is right.

Consider each wound inflicted as separate, so for each wound you inflict, you can use it to heal your Vamp, until etc. So yes you can use it to heal multiple wounds on vampires, Blood Knights etc in one combat phase. Its one of the main reasons why a lot of Dread Knight Lords in a Blood Knight unit wield the Bloodrinker. Nothing like bringing back over 150pts worth of troops in a good combat phase :)

What influence then does CC with Lodestone have on it? Obviously it has no effect on vampires, per the rules, but do you gain two wounds back on your BKs for each wound inflicted by Blooddrinker if the CC is in range?

Non infantry models / vamps / ethereal can only ever gain 1 wound per casting of invocation of nehek. So the CC would not have an effect on the Bk's.

However that does raise an interesting question if said vampire was in a unit of say....ghouls. Hmmmm

Unholy Lodestone: If a friendly unit within 6" of one or more Unholy Lodestones, including the Corpse Cart, is targeted by Invocation of Nehek, the unit gains an additional wound. Vampire units still only gain a single wound - the Unholy lodestone has no effect

Blood Drinker: For each unsaved wound inflicted be the Blood Drinker, the wielder (or unit he is with) immediately regains a single wound suffered earlier in the battle, as if invocation of nehek had been cast on them.

After reading these i am at a split decision here. Id say yes because it says "AS IF invocation of nehek had been cast on them" but i could then say no because you never actually cast the spell (the opponent never gets a chance to dispel it) and the description does say "immediately regains a SINGLE wound"

Wow this seems like a grey area to me, i could definately see myself arguing both sides here, anyone else got some input?

I'm pretty sure there's something in the FAQ. I could be wrong, and I haven't got time to check now (sorry!) but I THINK it says that Blood Drinker and the Corpse Cart's Unholy Lodestone don't stack. Basically, the effect of Blood Drinker works AS IF IoN had been cast - it doesn't actually cast it, so the Corpse Cart doesn't come into play.

The Corpse Cart's Unholy Lodestone actually does give an additional wound to everything except vampiric units when IoN is cast, despite the wording of the spell itself. Thus, Black Knights, Wraiths, etc can benefit if they're within range.

No you only get 1 wound CC and Lodestone or not.

The reason is it says "as if invocation of nehek had been cast on them." no that IoN has been cast but refering to the way IoN works for clarification.

So you can only get 3 wounds back max unless your me and role double 1s all over the place stupid Vampire General.

This is correct. The CC rules specific exclude vampire units but by omission include other non infantry units. The question still exists in my mind as to the impact this has on Blood Drinker

Non as IoN has not been cast, it just acts like IoN in raising models without the role of a D6

I would say that the CC has no effect with the Blood drinker, because as Spartan says he CC/Lodestone increases the effect of IoN, whereas successful wounds with Blood Drinker result in the weilder/unit gaining a wound, as if IoN was cast. It does not say that IoN is cast on the unit.

As it is only a single wound gained per hit it will work irrespective of the type of unit joined.

I also agree with Geraint's take on the CC's effect on non-infantry units (other than vampires)

Ok, I was finally able to get to the FAQ and it addresses this. It specifically excludes Blood Drinker from the CC effect
