Hey all,

Im new to the site and hoping you all might be able to spare a few moments to help me with a rules verification. I am starting to build up a VC army and like the looks of the Blood Knights and Varghulfs. The power they bring to my Ghoul Core army is nice.

As far as magic is concerned, are they considered level 1 wizards? The referance at the bottom of there description on page 46 says that they are vampires "see page 35" which states that all vampires are level 1 wizards. Why would they even write that next to the word Vampire in there written description if not to suggest that they are?

If there not thats ok, seems kinda unfair but if they are wizards to they each cast seperately? I know they would only get 1 casting die each but if i field 5 of them would that mean 5 more invocation of nehek castings?

As far as the varghulf is concerned, it says hes a vampire but yet doesnt have the "see page 35" written next to it like the BK's clearly have stated. So would he also be a lvl 1 wiz?

I looked up the erratas on the Gamesworkshop website and they clearly stated in the VC section that Konrad is NOT a wizard because hes to crazy! I imagine the BK's and Varghulf are also crazy but there is no written errata saying otherwise?

If these questions have been answered befor im sorry but i couldnt locate an answer with the search option.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Moved to Rules Questions

The Vampire rule states that a Vampire is a level 1 Wizard, and a Vampire lord is a level 2, not that every model with the vampire rule is a wizard. In this case they are talking about the hero type, not the rule itself. The 'Vampire' rule in this case mean that Undead within 6' may march etc. This being the case, neither the Varghulf or Blood Knights are Wizards.

Thanks for the quick reply and answer, Vekarin. Sorry i posted in wrong section.

No problem. Welcome to the forum.

I agree with Vekarin. I thought this issue would be problematic since the time I have seen the army book. The Vampire rule is only there so other Undead can march within 6" of that unit. Be aware that those units also do not crumble when the general dies!

Some explanation to why: As explained on page 35, all vampire characters are wizards. Characters are the heroes and lords, not the other troops. It is logical to assume that BK's and the Vargulf aren't casters, but rulewise it is indeed hard to find.

A level 1 wizard generates 2 power dice, not just one (he does however generates 1 dispell dice).

How do you figure that, exactly? It says right there in the BRB, page 106 regarding power dice, that -

"The player whose turn it is gives one dice to each first level Wizard, two dice to each second level Wizard..." ;)

I believe that's one of the changes from 6th to 7th edition. But I'm not sure.

yeah. Wizards generate one power dice for every wizard level they have. They generate half their level for dispel dices, rounded up.

lvl1 = 1 PD, 1DD
lvl2 = 2 PD, 1DD
lvl3 = 3 PD, 2DD
lvl4 = 4 PD, 2DD

Its quite clear:

The army 'pool' generates 2 PD / DD providing at least one caster is present to use them.

The wizard himself generates PD equal to his magic level, in regards to DD, levels 1 & 2DD generate 1, 3 & 4 generate 2DD

I always thought that a varghulf had an unit strenght of 4 (monster with 4 wounds). My opponent yesterday had always played that an varghulf had unit strength 5? Who is right?

Not quite right. Your army generates 2 PD/DD whether there is anybody there to use them or not. Even if you had no wizards you could still use your PD in your turn as DD to dispel RiP spells.

Very true.

But let's be honest about that particular scenerio, as far as it relates to VC. If you have no wizards left to use the army pool of power dice, which would mean your General is dead, you would be totally screwed. Conceding would start to look like a viable option :lol2:

I guess though that an army like those stunties in their tin cans could almost get away with it.

Yeah, stunties is what first came to my mind.....xD Just didn't want any of the new people getting the wrong idea....

I cant find the rule where it says that a Vampire or a Caster needs to be the General, is there such a rule or could you have a wight king as general?

The rule is on page 88 of the army book, about halfway down, in the paragraph thats under the chart that tells you how many and what type of characters you can have at different point games.

Look under the special rules for Generals in the VC rulebook and you will see it states that "a vampire must be your general and if you have muliple vampires on the field with the same Ld then you must nominate one to be your general".

Wight king as a general? tougher than a vamp and killing blow but not much else

Where does it say that units between 6" of a vampire won't crumble if the general died???

It doesn't say it anywhere.

He just worded his sentences weird.

The "Vampire" special units do not crumble with the fall of the general. Units without the vampire special rule with a vampire in the unit still do crumble. But they can use the leadership of the vampire in their unit for the crumble roll.
