Blood Knights?

On a flank I find works best, give them flag of blood of keep so they can survive the attention in the shooting phase.
If your opponent hasn't got many units above 20 you can (with a bit of luck) roll up the entire flank.

That's awesome! still super pricey but better then full i suppose. They are basically good in either small flank crushing units or a deathstar. Care though, even with the flag of blood keep they aren't good vs shooting a 4+ seems great but losing even 1 models is huge for a blood knight unit, give them cover until the hit something, they kill nearly anything they run into.

I play against Empire and Dwarves a lot. My Blood knights ruled the table the first game against both opponents. Never get into combat now they know what they can do, even with the banner. And it really isnt that hard to take them out with handgunners, with the banner evey 4 wounds caused is a dead knight. I just think 50 points is just too much for a 1 wound model. I'd rather just have 2 black knights for each blood knight, or there abouts.
A unit of 3 vargiests in front is a good idea, but it needs to be something vampiric so they can march outside the generals bubble. I think I'm just bitter because I play against gun lines all the time and I cant remember the last time I saw a cannon miss, let alone missfire.

As much as I wish it were so, Blood Knights do not make a good death star. Where they do excel is as a small but hard hitting unit with a character in. I would take 2 units of 5, each with a vampire hero or lord in, then if you wanted to do a full cavalry list you could have skeleton horsemen as core with a vamp lord and lots of dire wolves for redirecting.

I've had both success and failure with blood knights. I like the though. I once ran a unit of 8 with 2 characters 10 wide. when the did get to combat they left nothing left in there path. also gave one of the vamps MR(2) to help out.

My experiences with them ended with two units of 4 on flanks, or operating in the middle as pair. Not to costly and still have quite a punch and are more maneuvrable. It was nice to see enemy army herded by them and killed. But i`m not using them too often, cause my meta is shooting heavy.
I dont think, that they could be good deathstar, cause in wide formation they can be easilly blocked and forced to overrun and then hit into flank and in deep formation their damage potential is wasted.

Yeah they just don't work as a dstar because they're 50 pts each and you can only afford about 10 which is just not large enough. They die very easily because 1W, 2+ AS, and lousy T4. That coupled with their small numbers means a big no no for dstars.

They become a little more useable with khaine Magic, in theory (haven't tried it yet)
With multiple castings of invocation on them.
But their still expensive for what they do.

If the had 1+ armour and 2W they'd be an auto include for me I think.

I think just 2 wounds would be perfect. The extra +1 armor is not really necessary and with 2 wounds you can occasionally heal them with lore attribute so it's more of a buff then it looks.

I find run 5 of them with the Banner of Eternal Flame and essentially use them as a cruise missile.

Best also is to remember to use them as a 'bully' unit, smash the crap out of stuff you know you can beat, don't engage their equals.

Also with BoEF, they make an excellent monster killer, Chimera? Lel.. Trolls? LeL...most big monsters....well you get the point ;).

Yeah, I think a small unit with Banner of Flame is optimal. I did the same thing with Grail Knights and they slaughtered monsters and Crypt Horrors.

That's not necessarily true. BK can house WK and necromancers without losing their ethereal movement. If you put a WK in Blood Knights, they lose the ability to march freely. Also BK are much cheaper and Banner of the Barrows could be arguably better than Blood Keep.

Not to mention one heals at a substantially faster rate.

But don't necromancers ride nightmares now? So even necromancers take away BK ethereal movement. This is really unfortunate...

Wondering if the bloodknight star might work better in a UL list, joined by a mounted Liche High Priest level 4 on Nehek with the Golden Deathmask and MR(2). That way you have a 2+ against magic, a 4++ against shooting, and bring back a wound onto the unit with every successful casting of an LoN augment.

Thought for a second that the Banner of the Undying Legion might be worthwhile but they specifically crafted the Resurrecting Fallen Warriors in such a way as to prevent that. Laaaaame.

No they were right on the flank and they got into combat. They should have smashed the units they got into combat with... and they just didn't.

CR. It is all about the CR.
The problem with "smashing units" is most probably cause of infantry steadfast so once they stuck in, they can die if they charging alone. Bloodknights are usually not ranked unit (cause it is unprofitable to waste their attacks) and rarely 10 in number(bigger battles maybe?), so you cant expect them to smash blocks of ranked infantry in one go. But, you can expect them to inflict bare CR on enemy unit - comboed with ranked unit from the front, you can beat target steadfast(cause you only have to match their rank) and having fat CR inflicted by them, you can win by huge difference. Note, that their damage output is in general quite high - so even if they all die, you can still win the combat with your other units in the same combat. They will not give away CR with t4 and save 2+ if on flank. If they dont die all, and if enemy is setuped properly, allowing all that overruns and pursuits into unresolved fights, five of them can roll entire enemy battleline in single turn. If you expect from them, that they are uber super knights that single handedly can take entire regiments - dont.
Also, with BoEF you can have regen monster killer. They can shred armour with their lances so cavalry buses are in danger. They are situational, but good flanker unit that demands some practise.

So I tried charging a unit of 5 demi gryphs monstrous cav. They would have taken that unit out, however bad dice rolls got me on that one. I also tried to charge them into the flank of a horde of great swords. They had steadfast so they didn't break. The crumble got me on that one.
