So in the first expample, you had bad luck - even best killer unit can be dwarfed by bad rolls. Better luck next time so dont worry. In second example, you did not taken enemy static CR and staying ability, so you lost them.
VC army is very potent in killing, but operating CR is our breed and butter.

I find Blood Knights best when summoned by nagash. All of the hitting power, none of the points burned from your rare slots.

I don't know of any unit in warhammer that is scarier than blood knights. You don't get that many high strength, high ws attacks out of any unit. And 2+ 4+ saves to boot. Most monsters are 200+ points....and you get no armor save really, or any save you get is shitty. Cannons usually can only pick one BK off (as opposed to killing a monster outright) There are many armies with elite units that really need to worry about that kind of charge into their flank. I mean, basically taking BK's means you enemy has to make sure you don't get the charge on their cavalry (cause your more than likely going to win, unless it's a character bus) and that they keep those monsters away. BK's are character transport....they suck otherwise.
