Bolt Thrower on Hills / LOS

My High Elf playing buddy uses as many bolt throwers as possible. We use the "Realm of Battle" boards with the hills. He places the BTs on the hills stating that they can see over all terrain.

From the models eye level though there may be trees of some other type of terrain that partially block the LOS.

Would my models get the +1 Soft Cover if he has to actually shoot through the top of the trees even though he is shooting from a hill?

If someone knows a rule book page can you post it?

you could refer to pages 119 (forests and shooting) and page 41 (cover)

also page 109 (shooting with war machines)

WHFB uses true line of sight. In this case if you trace your los from the bolt throwers to its target and its target has cover in the way then the appropriate - to hit penalty's apply.
