Hi everyone,

I am just wondering if people can help throw some ideas into a pot that's been bubbling in my mind for a while.

I have been trying to get the inspiration together to actually paint and model a vampire counts army for ages. I came across some pictures of medieval plague doctors recently and wondered if I could use a similar theme for a VC army, without going too far towards Chaos Nurgle or Skaven. Maybe keep the models gaunt and emaciated, rather than bloated like nurgle?

There is a mention of one of the main von Carsteins, Konrad I think, using plague zombies to spread havoc and disease, and the corpse carts work. how else to work the theme though?

Possible ideas already:
1) Ghouls - model them up with some clear green stuff plague boils and kit bash them with something like dark elf legs - they are being specially tended by the vampires to stay "alive" and act as carriers?
2) Crypt horrors - instead of the current models, model them up as carcass hulks - literally fused golems of plagued flesh that stumble forwards and absorb everything they encounter? Zombie bits and ogres perhaps, lots of writing limbs like the corpse carts?
3) Necromancers with plague doctor masks? they won't heal this plague, but spread it?
4) Zombies - nothing more than painting them up with plague style colours - discoloured veins and green shading perhaps, as well as carrying old banners with the plague X's? Literally, do not approach?
5) Black Knights - instead of Knights, they are more like corpses reanimated and strapped to poor dying horses and driven into battle - lots of chain weapons to drag their prey down and will-o-the whisp lights?
6) The vampires themselves? I don't want to use necrachs or strigoi personally, so a more upperclass, noble vampire with appropriate vials of potions and plague, and lots of source lighting?

Any more ideas or thoughts always welcome - thanks in advance for the help! Just as I am writing this plague undead brettonian's spring to mind as another possible idea.

--How about fell bats that are carrying poison censers in their talons?
--Mordheim stage coach can be modified into a plague cart (black coach)
--I can see a varghulf or two as being as big, bag disease carrying monstrosity.
--One look at the TG with its rotting appearance and its no stretch of the imagination to say that its wail could be used to pass on a deathly, armor ignoring plague.
--Engines could easily be modified to fit your theme. Their 2d6 range ability could be looked upon as something that spreads plague, especially when they blow up!

I'd take Cairn Wraiths as well. Death wielding a scythe has historically been used in reference to plagues (Black Death, Cholera, etc...).

Painting wise, I'd go off-white skin, maybe with a greenish hint, and then fade to black at the extremities. Black-blue veins would be cool.

[mod]Thread moved to 'Dying to Help'[/mod]

Thought you might get more ideas/input here than in the Council of Night section :)

Thanks for moving the thread Malochai, I wasn't sure which area to start it really :) Many thanks for the ideas so far guys, and much appreciation for directing me to Forlorn's work there Adam - his corpse cart alternative is great!

I really like the idea of adding a rider of the apocalypse of some kind Santa. Can anyone think of a large scale horse and rider, approximately the size of the new Terrogeist at all? I am wondering if a counts as terrorgeist might suit the apocalypse rider best?

EDIT: Actually, anyone got an idea of scale on the new Maulerfiend daemon engine? I am wondering if I can use that instead, model it up with corpses festooned off it and some kind of unholy shrine atop as a decay carrier?
