Right, hello everyone! I'm new here (have popped a little intro into the Fresh Blood sub-forum). but basically, having been back in the hobby for 3 years, I'm finally getting back around to one of my first Warhammer loves: Vampire Counts/Undead.

Way back when, I used to have a Von Carstein bloodline army with Sylvanian levies and everything. Now, I have a pretty extensive collection of painted and unpainted Space Marines for my Blood Angels Successors and they take up most of my hobby time, but every now and then I want to do something different and that itch isn't always scratched by my Malifux crew. So here I am, rising from the crypt with a small side-project. As it's a side-project I can't guarantee particularly regular updates, but I'm going to be using these models as an opportunity to paint to my very best and do some things I don't otherwise get to attempt, so hopefully it'll be worth having a look when I do get something done.

I'll post some pictures of what I'm working on when I surpass the 3 post limit that's stopping me from linking photos in my Dakka gallery.

Well, here's the old Mordheim vampire I completed about a week ago that made me decide to stop lurking on here:

Despite loving this miniature in general, I've never had much time for the Halberd, so I replaced that with a cruel looking Dark Elf sword that I painted to represent the magic weapon Blood Drinker after finding ordinary metal far too boring. I've aimed for an autumnal feel with the leaves on the base, not just because it's currently autumn here in the UK, but because I really like the colours you get at this time of year.

With Micro Art Studios producing such amazing graveyard bases I'm going to use them as often as possible, plus I really like the idea of a foreboding graveyard full of undead monstrosities that you shouldn't venture into. My future efforts will be loosely conformed to Mordheim as I'm looking to create a warband rather than army sized project here.

That said, my new work is the fantastic Cairn Wraith. GW give me lots of reasons not to buy from them these days, but I'm happy to reward the production of a sculpt like this. I've tried to jazz up the base a bit so it's more in keeping with the micro-art ones. I'm working on filling in the scythe, because I don't like the idea of my ethereal creature having a rusty, pitted weapon.Don't know when I'll get around to finishing it, but it's on the project list at least!

Sweet work! I think I agree with Mad'At; the tones of colour you used on the vamp all go well together and have an equal feel to them.

Thanks for pointing out the belt, Mad'At. I wouldn't have noticed the dagger otherwise. I think it's quite interesting how you left a black outline on the accoutrements. It really pops them out, especially the dagger hilt, whereas it would have otherwise blended in to the shirt. I hope I can remember this next time I paint something similar! Have you done this before?

Wow, thanks for all the positive replies guys! I was going for a cold feeling with the model, so it's nice to get confirmation that I've somewhat achieved that aim.

Eternal Salvation - honestly, I don't think I consciously did that with the stuff on his belt, certainly I hadn't even noticed the blacklining 'til you mentioned it and I went and had another look at the pictures! Still, if my subconscious is making me do things that look good, then I'm all for it.

Some really sexy basing there mate, strangely I think its the colours you have used on the leaves which have really set it off, its this real "attention" to detail that really makes a model stand out and by extension of that the force as a whole.
Keep up the damn good work you talented swine. ;)
