Hey everyone,

I have been playing that a successful vanhel's gives an 8" movement, but after reading the spell more carefully I am wondering if I have been missing something.

"In addition, if the target unit is unengaged, it can immediately make a move of up to 8" in the same way as a normal move made in the Remaining Moves sub-phase."

During the "Remaining Moves sub-phase" in the rule book it talks about moving forwards, sideways, backwards and marching. If is pretty clear that if you move sideways or backwards with vanhel's that you move at half speed, but if you are within the marching bubble when hit by this spell can you move 16" (double the spells given movement 8)?

I would greatly appreciate an answer as this would greatly change the way I play, and really make this spell more valuable to me.

It says "make a move up to 8" so you move up to 8 inches regardless if you can march or not.

So you are restricted by the moving sideways or backwards part of the rules and not permitted to take advantage of the march part?

Boo hiss :P

I figured as much but it caught my eye as something that I might have missed before.

Anyone else play this any differently?

I play it as you can move forward and even wheel, but must "pay" for wheeling that unit by measuring the corner of the unit etc etc...

I can move backwards or sideways, but I cut the 8" in half and restrict myself to only 4", and my opponents find that fair enough.#

I do not try swift reform type movements.

For fliers or hoverers, I move them 8" wherever I want in any direction, provided any model doesn't exceed moving more than 8".

Finally, you can move via VanHels INTO a building as it is NOT a march. It's really handy :)

Cool, thank you for the response.

That sounds like a very fair way to play it and would look reasonable to an opponent also.

If I am not mistaking the spell says as if in the remaining moves sub-phase. And all of the above would comply with that wording.
