Here's a Dawn Attack Scenario I played with my son. He's 17 and a very good player. It is hard to beat him. But I think he made a tremendous error in his deployment. I set up first so per scenario rules I get first turn on a die roll of 1-5. This photo is after vanguard. The huge winged DP is his general. Demon Princes in the WoC army are NOT large targets. The things on the hill are my Dark Elf Bolt Throwers. The unit that vanguarded up are my Dark Riders with crossbows.

So what critical error did he make?

Clearly those dogs died and panicked off the Chimmy.
Maybe the chariot failed, too.
Either way, when playing against RBT ' S specifically it's imperative to shield the DP with the Chimmy.
I'm guessing you killed off or panicked the dogs with the Dark riders and they fled through the Chimmy panicking it off. The other dark riders stripped the DP of Charmed shield and the 2 RBTs killed the DP.
Am I right?

I don't like the chariot behind the walls. DT test barrier for them to get in the fight middle of the board. I don't like the Chimera sideways, unless vs a canon toting army. Can't charge next turn. Also, depends on the rules and how you play it, but the warrior unit may have to reform to move over the bridge. My local group isn't that crazy, we just allow movement over the bridges, unless in a horde and you are clearly profoundly wider than the bridge.

Those would be my inserts.

Deployed in the river?

Surprisingly no...dangerous terrain tests only trigger on a march (chariot cannot do), charge, flee or pursue across river. None of those were likely at the beginning of the game.

'take me to the place I looooove, take ne out of here....'

by the looks of it, chimmy is deployed UNDER the bridge, most of the base anyway. is that even legal, 1 inch away from terrain and units. looks pretty tight around there.

otherwise im with thee above. dogs panicking off his whole centre, leaving fast flank and the DP with warriors slowly trudging behind. did they at all see combat until you let them?

The dogs. They were key or so I thought. Leadership 5 in front of a leadership 5 chimera. One good volley of crossbow bolts should panic them causing them to flee through Chimera. He should panic too. Both dogs and chimera were too far from general and bsb. As it turns out that did not matter. In magic phase I got boosted searing doom on his DP and did 8 wounds. He saved 2 with ward. The death caused the warriors to blow their re-rollable 8 leadership and they ran to the very edge of the board. So General was dead (his level 4), and warriors, chimera and a unit of hounds were all fleeing. 2 of the 3 had little chance of rallying. Thus he conceded after my shooting.

BTW, you guys guessed faster than the Druchii.net fellows did. ;)

And this here is why you spend the 5 points to put the dragonbane gem on a demon prince :P
