Hi all,

I thought it might be helpful/useful to gather data on VC matchups and games, as played by users of this forum to try and understand the VC place in the "power continuum" of Warhammer.

Having spoken to ergo-sum for his thoughts on the matter, I thought we'd give this a go:

I'd like everyone who plays a game using VC (any size of game) to log that game by posting a reply to this thread. I will be updating this first post on a regular (weekly) basis. Over time we will see a picture emerge of the good/bad matchups for VC at different point levels of games which may help us in the long run.

To post details here you need to follow the 4-point format below:

1) the opponent's army (e.g. ogre kingdoms)
2) point-level of the game you played (e.g. 2000)
3) game result with qualifier (e.g. win - major, loss - minor, etc.)
4) any interesting/funny/memorable thing that happened in the game (optional)

I'm in on this as well, although the gaming of fantasy have slowed down significantly around my parts. I should be able to squeeze in a game against both the dark elves and daemons every now and then though, heheh.

I can post results from last 2 small tourneys I attended.


tourney 1:

game 1
1) Tomb Kings
2) 2500
3) Massacre win
4) It was fun watching my 2+ AS vamp hero survive destroyer of eternities ^_^ (not that it mattered for the game, but it was quite amusing)

game 2
1) Skaven
2) 2500
3) Massacre win, but because of opponent resigned
4) For 2 turns of magic and shooting he killed more things from his own army than from mine. I felt really bad for him

game 3
1) Orcs and Goblins
2) 2500
3) Massacre win
4) I think it's pretty much an autowin, unless a miracle happens :/

finals

1) Daemons of Chaos
2) 2500
3) loss - Massacre
4) 2x Nurgle units + 1x Khorne unit with stubborn banner + Bloodthirster HURTS



tourney 2

game 1
1) Empire
2) 2500
3) Massacre win
4) can't really remember many details, besides the fact that he took a lot of infantry units and artillery, cuz he wanted to beat the Skaven player. Zombies > Greatswords

game 2
1) Dwarfs
2) 2500
3) Solid win
4) Probably one of our easiest matches, solid only because GG unit was wiped in 1 turn of shooting and 5 Wraiths killed 1 unit of Thunderers and 1 War Machine for the whole game

game 3
1) Mortals of Chaos
2) 2500
3) Minor win
4) Stubborn Chosens of Nurgle with 4+ Ward Save. No way in hell I'm killing this unit. I did my best to avoid it, but after all my opponent managed to deal quite some dmg with his Khorne Exalted Champions on Juggernauts. This guys killed ranked up units all on their own!

finals
1) Dark Elf
2) 2500
3) Draw, 50 pts for him
4) Turn 1 - Varghulf dies from 2 Magic Missiles, 5 Wraiths + Banshee die from 18 hit conflagration of Doom :/ All this from 2 sorceresses. After that I did my best but it was almost an impossible situation. Bad thing is that they ruled he wins, because it was a 2 day tournament - I was winner from Day 1, he was winner from Day 2 and the 50 pts for him won him 1st place



And another random game I recently played

I'm going to try to remember enough of the game to write up an actual report (game was at least two weeks ago), but thought I would add it here as well.

1) Dark Elves
2) 2250 (should be noted that I took Count Mannfred)
3) Massacre win
4) Two really funny things happened during the game. First was my mate in his turn 2 charging his Assassin out of his Shades on the edge of the woods into my 4 Cairn Wraiths and Tomb Banshee, and targeting my Banshee. He had gotten confused over the rules regarding manbane and poison attacks affecting Undead. I told him to look up the BRB as to whether manbane makes the attacks magical or not. The look on his face when he realised that his Assassin's attacks were non magical was priceless. He had just sent his Assassin to it's death. :konrad: Second funny moment was when I had moved the Tomb Banshee and remaining Cairn Wraith up to threaten his shooting line (2 units of 10 xbowmen, one unit with a Sorceress, and 2 Reapers, all on a hill or nearby) in turn 5, then forgetting the Howl in my shooting phase, only for him to have to take a Terror test in his turn 6, which he failed and caused a panic wave when the other units failed their panic tests when the fleeing DE unit ran past them. It turned the game from being a solid win to a massacre :lol2:

Here are a couple of old battles I dug up.

Battle 1:
1) Lizardmen
2)1000 pts
3) Massacre win
4) Not much to say here, except that my general was responsible for about 3/4 of all the kills.

Battle 2:
1)Lizardmen
2)1000 pts
3) Draw 35 points in my favor
4) I couldn't get a spell in

Battle 3:
1) Lizardmen

3) Massacre Win
4) what is there to say?

Battle 4:
1) Lizardmen
2) 1000 pts
3) Massacre Loss
4) Ok, this one was funny. My girlfriend took control of my best friend's Lizards as a trial game to see if she wanted to get an army, and of course the first spell she EVER ROLLS IN HER GAMING CAREER is an Uranion's Thunderbolt with overwhelming force which pretty much pasted my general. Army crumbled after that, but not before a wight king managed to kill the cursed lizard general (that poor lizard has died in every engagement he's been in).

Battle 5:
1) Orcs and Goblins
2) 1000 pts
3) Massacre win
4) I didnt even get to fight. They all ran away from me... Why do they never want to play?

Battle 6:
1) Orcs and Goblins
2) 2000 pts
3) Marginal Victory
4) See "The Journey Home" in Story Writing. Fanatics get annoying... Cannons backfire... Funny Times!

Well Today I fought my buddies Bretonian's
It was a massacre of epic proportions !!
My Vamp Lord took on and Killed and entire Knights Errant unit, and Entire Unit of Pegasus Knights and a block of 35 Men at Arms !!! :devil2:
The Wraiths I had brough killed a Damsel and popped a few questing knights but mostly mannaged to terrorize the HELL out of his army. I felt pretty damn bad for him actually.

2250 point game He got 197 points ( 100 from killing two summoned Zombie groups )
I got over 1700 points before he called in trun 5 !

So chalck one up there.

Actually while I think on my last battle was 1500pts vs High Elves and It was a Massacre the Von Carsteins basically with KOnrad and his unit of GG ripping through everything in sight

Since my army is still recovering from the Long Sleep, I only play friendly games against friends. Although I have experienced many funny things (like a swordmaster regiment surrounded by 7 zombie regiments), those battles (read: victories) are not worth mentioning here.

Still I like the idea and we shall see where this shall lead to.

Hmm, I've taken myself the liberty of compressing the information that we've been given so far, using Wildcard's posted table. The only thing that I'm not too sure about is Adrift saying "2 and 2 versus Empire in other games"? What came out of those? Should they even count?

Nice to see you've talen the liberty to update MasterSpark, kudos. I'll be adding my stuff as well since I'm slowly gaining more time to play a battle every two weeks or so.

Today:

1) Orcs 7 Goblins
2) 1,500 pts
3) major win for VC
4) My first two turns were abysmal due to bad rolling. I actually managed to get a miscast but "only" lost one wound on a vamp. The O&G army rolled way too much 6's for animosity and came forward too fast for my liking.
On turn three my luck changed from zero to disgusting; the most memorable thing happening was the Orc general fleeing from my general due to a failed Fear test and affecting almost every other unit in range. Some did rally later on but the General just legged it off the table.
My Varghulf did pretty well against the Giant but got crushed eventually though the giant only had one wound left and was took down quickly after that.

I have 2 battles to report not in great detail but both against a 750pts Bretonnian Army
- 1st game a massacre to the VC
- 2nd VC's were massacred, the knights got a flank charge and it was down hill from there :'(

Two games for ya, sadly, both massacres against me. =/

Game 1 Vs Daemons:

I took a fun list at 2K points with a Scouting Vampire lord to cause havoc behind enemy lines with Zombies, etc....And then found out I drew a Daemon player as my opponent. Not wanting to tailor my list, I kept it and got appropriately steamrolled. :/

I wanted to try out the Dickenhoff banner, so I did, and gave my opponent full forewarning about it so I didn't cheese anyone out. I don't like the banner, but I must admit, the resilience it adds to a unit of GG is awe inspiring.

highlight? My 20 GG with VLord and WK lasting in 4 1/2 turns of combat with a Bloothirster, 40 bloodletters, and 5 flesh hounds. It was amazing.

1000 point deficit, Massacre to Daemons.

Second game was sooooo much fun though. It was great to make the bloodthirster roll instability so often, even though one group of Bloodletters had the stubborn banner. =/

4)I knew he was taking the troll hero which lets you take trolls as core so i took konrad and the Hellfire standard. Konrad and 10 Skellies with the standard charge 5 dragon ogre things,
Konrad kills all 5 outright.

4)Dwarf cannon ball kills my lord outright in the first turn even though my lord was in a unit and had a 4+ ward. You can work out why it was a Massacre.
