Hello everyone!
I hope you are all having a good Halloween! For ages now I have been wrestling with serious modelling and painting inertia - I just couldn't work out what to build. I wanted to do a vampire counts army, as the undead have always captured my interest. I just couldn't get the motivation together though, and as the new army book came out, I lost all motivation. I have had a bit of a break throught in the last few days though. I wanted to start a plog and help use that to keep me motivated. The pictures below are of the converted first few units and heros - any comments or thoughts welcome
The first hero is a hero level vampire with a great weapon. He started life as an Imperial Guard tech priest, but clearly ran into something toothy in one of the catacobs of Mars!

He's designed to fit in with a unit of axemen - only limited conversions, mainly using small shards of spare plastic to add shoulder pads to a few, and converting all their weapons to be axes - I had to pillage a few dwarf weapons for that.

Next up, the most fun thing I have worked on recently. I wanted a hero Banshee, but wanted my own unique one - what can I say, converting is addictive! She isn't perfect, but I am pleased with the results - can anyone tell me where the parts are from?

She is designed to float in the front rank of a unit of swordsmen - more conversions needed here, wanted to add chainmail and various armour pieces to fit with the old school command models - I love them too much to leave them out. Here's hoping the greenstuff chainmail will work out once painted! My skills are still pretty basic

My breakthough was that I realised that although I liked the new units, I am too fond of the really old undead, where monsters like Varghulfs and Crypt Horrors didn't appear, in favour of skeletons and other "human" horrors. So I decided to start a relatively old school army! Lots of bone and zombies, and less of the modern monsters. I would still like to add things like Vargheists though, they just speak to me, and things like the coven throne and mortis engine - and if I can afford it some of the skin wolves too from Forgeworld, so I can use the Crypt Horror rules
As for background, well, I am still rolling some ideas round in my head, but reading the excellent Children of Maat stories in the Invocation (thanks to the writers for those, they are always great) I am just wondering... what would one of Maatmeses brood become in the far north? Perhaps an encounter with a withchunter, and the witchunter being given the blood kiss, has led to a small brood of vengeful vampires? Would that make them "Witchhungers"? Sorry...
Anyway, I promised myself that before the end of Halloween I would finish enough models for two units, and start a plog - and I have managed it just... local time says half an hour before midnight
Sorry for the lengthy first post, please let me know any thoughts - colour suggestions in particular are welcome, I plan to do some work on the bases before painting, but I need to work out some ideas ahead of time.
