Chat?

Does anyone else ever use the chat? I have never seen anyone else ever on the chat when I go on, and I usually end up having one-sided rants about whatever is on my mind. Therapeutic, but lonely.

I go on chat but, like yourself, have found that the place is so desolate even a tumbleweed would make good company!

It is very rare for me to see anyone else in there, though I have seen the odd person.

i use it, but haven't seen anyone online lately I usually end up talking to myself!!!

I log on once or twice per day and leave it there for a little while, but I always miss when anyone else joins since there's no notification from the chat when anything new happens. :'(

Oddly enough I recently made a very similar thread. However we concluded that as the Chat function doesn't actually add to the forum's cost, why not keep it for those chance encounters?

We were also planning to run scheduled "chat sessions" or the like to increase activity in the chatroom.

Chat is one of those things that needs to get to a specific 'weight' before it takes off.

If you know there will always be people in chat more people would go. But because no one is there, no one goes. Does that make sense?

Makes perfect sense to me. I have however, noticed that the forum has picked up massively with the new release which I can only see as a good thing!

Ok. If you want to get the chat going, log into chat each and every time you log into CN. And stay there while you browse. If everyone does that, hopefully we can get to a critical mass to let Chat startup.

There were quite a few (4-5) users in the chat room together earlier this evening, but we started experiencing some issues with automatic disconnections. The member Desfer was particularly affected by this, at least from my own point of view. Perhaps there are load-based limitations of the software that makes it a bit cranky after a certain point is passed?

There shouldn't be. Please advise if this keeps happening and I will try and investigate.

We had a staff chat in there with about 5-6 people and we had no issues.

Please note the date/time (including zone) if it happens again. Makes it easier to track down.

We had a little session earlier today with the same number of people as yesterday, but this time we suffered no noticeable problems. And yes, Desfer was there, too.
