RE: Clan Virilus

Nothing keeps up motivation better than a full army shot:

Yeah right.... That really helped!

OK back to painting....

I have a little production line going to finish off those pesky Albinos:

I have completed the painting and conversion of Chieftain LongTail, my armies BSB (Banner itself is not yet finished):

And just for fun; I have been meaning to try this conversion (Simple head swap & greenstuff tail) for a while. This character has no place in my list yet... Perhaps just an extra plauge priest for storm of magic games.

RE: Clan Virilus

First off, really good stuff going on here, I'm not generally a fan of Skaven but this army looks nice (and holy eff, BIG lol)
and second, your comment a couple pages back about the gw white spray, yeah, I've had problems with it too. But worse with the grey it covered my minis in powder no matter what i did lol.

Tell me about that albino assembly line? The steps?

Models are built, based, undercoated with black.

I have been painting 8 miniatures at a time by the time you get to the 8th the first is usually dry.

Bare in mind I am still using old paints (for the most part).

Basecoat Stage:
1. Paint all flesh areas with Scorched brown.
2. Paint all Fur with Dheneb Stone.
3. paint all cloth with Astronomican Grey.
4. drybrush all flesh areas with Tallarn Flesh.
5. Paint all armour plates with Mechrite Red.
6. Paint all blades and maille with Chainmail.
7. Paint all bags and packs with Gorthor Brown (New colour).
8. Paint all badges and icons with Tin Bits.

Wash Stage:
Fur: Gryphonne Sepia
Plate & maille armour and blades: Badab Black
Cloth: Mix of 1-1 Devlan Mud and Water.
Bags and Pouches: Devlan Mud

Highlight Stage 1:
1. Highlight all Fur with Dheneb Stone.
2. Hightlight all cloth with Astronomican Grey.
3. Highlight all armour plates with Mechrite Red.

Highlight Stage 2:
1. Highlight all Fur with 1-1 Dheneb Stone & Skull White.
2. Hightlight all cloth with 1-1 Astronomican Grey & Skull White.
3. Highlight all blades with Chainmail
4. Highlight all badges and icons with Dwarf Bronze

Finishing touches.
Belts and leathers (the straps used to attach armour) are painted Chaos Black and the wood of the Halberds is painted Rhinox Hide (New Colour).

And finally... Dot the eyeballs with Blood Red.

Go through that whole process 5 times and you have 40 Albino Coucil Guard ready to push a screaming bell into battle.

RE: Clan Virilus

With those final 10 Clanrats complete, I am now halfway through!

100 Clanrats down - 100 to go!

ai906.photobucket.com_albums_ac266_CCotillard_Skaven_IMG_9127_zps944871d5.webp

To celebrate this milestone. I decided to pull out all of my named characters and actually paint their names on their bases. I like the idea... I'm not 100% sold on the execution.

Earlier this week I set myself a task list. Instead of working on lots of things at once, I will move down this list one item at a time.

10 Clanrats
2 Warp Lightning Cannons
10 Clanrats
2 Doom Wheels.
10 Clanrats
2 Plague Claw Catapults
10 Clanrats
2 Poisoned Wind Mortars
10 Clanrats
2 Warp Fire Throwers
10 Clanrats
Giant Rats
10 Clanrats
Rat Ogres
10 Clanrats
Bell and Furnace: completion
10 Clanrats
Characters: touch ups
10 Clanrats
10 Plague Censor Bearers
10 Clanrats
Monsters

Since I finished the first item I moved onto the second.

This is still very much a work in progress, but I was especially pleased with the Object Source Lighting on the inside of the barrel; it was my first ever attempt at OSL.

So anyway... What do you think? Will I stand by my plan and get through this army? Or will I once again, let it fall by the wayside? Your input questions and encouragement are welcome!

Till next time!

RE: Clan Virilus

I had hoped to get these done in a week but other things got in the way. Both my sister in laws descended upon us for the weeked and we were once more forced to play tour guide. We visited the Statue of Liberty, Times Square and all those other places that sane New Yorkers avoid at all costs.

I had fun.

Now as I sit in my apartment and wait for Hurricane Sandy to hit, I have time at last to get some painting done. And since the Mayor has decided to shut down all mass transit, I'm looking at a do-over weekend (can't get to work without the Subway!)

Here's where it Stands:

All that's left is the crew and base of WLC2.
ai906.photobucket.com_albums_ac266_CCotillard_IMG_9369.webp

Then it's on to my next 10 Clanrats.... So long as I survive the storm!

p.s. I do not work for Canon.

RE: Clan Virilus

This is a really inspiring project! I struggle to finish off projects, but you have obviously found the one for you if the progress so far is anything to go by  The worst bit is... now I am wondering about painting skaven myself, even though I have hundreds of unpainted mini's from multiple armies!

I was particularly taken with that unit of plague monks with the staves - I don't think I have ever seen that before, and I like the converted storm of magic plague priest - based on a dark emissary model I think? I will be watching to see what else you come up with!

RE: Clan Virilus

Talk about inspiring, man. I love going back through this plog periodically. I just started an Under Empire account, and I picked up two IoB's worth of ratties to finally get into Skaven. Your whole army is killer. I hope I can even come close to it.

RE: Clan Virilus

Apparently I stopped posting here...

Well. Here's an update.

Army!

So when I was last here I promised doom wheels. So here they are:
(picture to follow asap)

Then I got the converting bug again and decided to make a PlaguePriest on GreatPoxRat. It's still a work in progress; I can't wait to get paint on it: ai906.photobucket.com_albums_ac266_CCotillard_IMG_6823_zpsb5892c9a.webp

RE: Clan Virilus

I like the little hitch hiker sitting next to him. Nice work. It's really liberating that there are good Rat Ogre heads around because they fit all kinds of great ideas like that.
