That might be difficult as there would be no way to automatically grant such medals, and very time consuming to have someone manually grant one when a member reaches those goals.

With the Golden Bat behind us, it is time to start working on the rest of the forum medals. These are the next five to be done first.

Dread Scholar - For members who have contributed to Carpe Noctem either by helping others or providing ideas and working to improve the forum itself
Vaults of Lahmia - For members who donate to Carpe Noctem's ongoing development and maintenance
Banshee For members who are quoted in Carpe Noctem's Random Quote Generator
TVC Thrall - For members who successfully completed five chapters of the Vampire Council roleplayer
TVC Lord - For members who successfully completed fifteen or more chapters of the Vampire Council roleplayer

Any ideas for motifs to be used?

Just a note Raven - I've got the medal software working on the testsite, and those medals look bloody (pun intended!) good

I think firstly we could do with designing a new background? I think the bat shield should be specific for the Golden Bat medals, it would be good if we could have a different one for forum medals?

As for the actual images, well the Banshee one is easy - a screaming banshee! The Vaults one really needs to reference wealth in someway, perhaps a large blood red gem nestled in some gold ingots? Dread Scholar - an old book / tome? Not quite sure for the TVC..... @Get of W'soran, @The Dread King @Simon von Carstein - any suggestions?

Sure. As I stated earlier in the topic - another idea is to use a banner. Tried to come up with more ideas what else to use as background...only thought of shields, tabards, cloaks and banners. Banners still seem to be the most practical so here are a few banner background variants:

That's a good idea to start with, although the ingots don't seem very Lahmian-ish to me. So I'm thinking of some kind of a brooch with a ruby in the middle, surrounded by a golden part with fancy design (I'm thinking maybe stylized golden snakes)...will try to come up with something for sure.

I like the use of banners for medal backgrounds but I think we'll need to see the combined products to really know how it will end up looking. The design of the banners are very nicely done but they'll need fitting emblems to keep that.

Here is the basic visual test using some of the Golden Bat emblems:

Contrary to my initial presumption, the 2nd shape isn't very practical (not much space in there after all). The 1st and the 3rd seem to be doing quite well tho.

I like the 3rd best but I wonder if the split colours will be a problem with it diffusing some emblems? These 2 here seems to have worked out fine though.

A way for army completion medals to work would possibly be to have one central thread to keep track of everyone's points painted, like a pledge thread. If people want the medal, they have to post in the thread and keep that specific thread updated with how many points of VC they have completed (with spoiler tag wrapped images of said painted & based units as evidence that won't make the page impossible to load)

Yep certainly - this could be a great addition. I think it would be something to look at a little later as we get the basics going right again, but it would be nice

Just gone through this thread and realised we had other rewards we were thinking about before, so let's keep the keep the discussion going, here was the last list of suggestions:


List of Proposed Medals:

Long Service award for members who have been active for an arbitrary length of time.

Helpful Stuff award for members who regularly help with queries and provide good advice

Grammatical Headache award for those who insist on post legibility.

Recruiter award for those who regularly welcome new bloods.

TVC Member of the Quarter - Every three months vote for somebody who you think has made an outstanding contribution to the TVC roleplay.

Top Tactician - For helpful contributions in tactical discussion. (fantasy and 40k separate)

Top Strategist - For stellar tacticas and strategy articles. (also separate fantasy and 40k)

Member's Member - Criteria for voting is down to you: who's been your favourite member?

Golden Bat Medals (as before but with shinier medals!)

Dark Transmuter - For winning "Turning the world to darkness" P&M competitions.

Best fiction - For top-rate homebrew fiction.

Best GM - For best roleplay GM.

Best VC Army - Best looking army from completed showcases.

Best Plog - Self-explanatory!

Best Mortal Army - Best looking mortal army.

Invocation Contributor - for those working on and contributing to The Invocation Magazine?

The Beast - maybe for outstanding contribution in The Beast Within sub-forum?

Reputation medals - let's say bronze, silver and gold, for acquiring 10, 20 and 30 reputation positives

Above and beyond - for someone who has done something above and beyond to help others or the forum



I think a lot of these would come down judgement by the staff team (which I think is fine), and members can also suggest, put someone forward. I can already think of a few members who deserve some of the above medals. Of course this would require more medal work by our master artificer Raven Torrid (who deserves an award himself for the great work). We probably need to refine some of the criteria and some up with some better names
