So I thought i would ask what do you think could be the coolest army (aesthetically) to become undead.

Im talking about conversions and count as

For example an Undead Lizardmen army using these to represent undead cold ones (Dark elf style) count as Black knights/Hexwraiths

Vote and explain below

Gotta go with orcs and goblins. My reasoning is that for all the roughly man-sized humanoid armies, the end result is going to be pretty similar as far as skeletons go.

I thought about how cool an undead dwarf army would be, but then you run into the problem of how to represent beards, arguably the most iconic dwarven visual element, on skeletons which have no skin. I'm aware that some companies leave the beards on (?!?), or use an "armor beard" to solve this problem, but I'm of the opinion that an entire army featuring one or both of these solutions would look kind of odd. Problematic even.

But if you keep the short little skeletons of goblins, and use the gigantic 5th edition plastic skellies with some sculpted jaws to make orcs, you've got a fun, characterful army with loads of little vignettes and surprises! (Do undead squigs even HAVE bones? Undead doom diver! Undead GIANT!!!)

That's my vote! You've even got a head start on models, if you're willing to go outside GW models, with Titan Forge.

For dwarves I'd say don't do skele's, zombied beardlings all the way, on the topic of coolest though... I'd do a bit of everything as to what suits your fancy, thats my aim with zombies anyway, outside of that lizzies, dwarves and to a smaller extent any of the elves or orcs n gobbos seem like off the ball choices while the likes of brets and empire seem more favoured choices usually.

Do demons actually have bones or do they go puff into clouds of brimstone in Warhammer?

I'd go with Orcs & Goblins. They are fun in life so I'm pretty sure they would be fun in death as well. Lots of options for zombies, skeletons, spirit hosts...and fun unit fillers (orcs, goblins, squigs, trolls, giants, wolves, spiders...).

And the best of all, gobbo Dracula. I mean, this guy just screams to be used as a Vampire Lord: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1640940a_99060209210_NastySkulkers04_873x627.jpg
In fact, I'm gonna use him once. xD

I'd also say Bretonnians...already had plans to make an army that could be used as both Bretonnia and VC. Would go with more vampiric than skeletal look. Various knight orders using various elite looking VC cavalry (Blood Knights, Mournful Knights, etc.)

Well for orcs and goblins there is this range

For Dwarfs Rackham have some cool zombie dwarfs

I am actually thinking Dark Elves but cant think of a valid count as for all the units i like

Undead Dwarves are super hard to come by. I'm fairly certain there's only one Undead Dwarf still in production from any company. I've only managed to acquire the one from Stonehaven, two GW Cursed Company, and another old OOP GW (one of the two Mordheim undead Dwarves, if memory serves). If you find any others lying around, your ebay skills are better than mine.

I'd really love to see any of them done well, but I voted for the Empire over the more exotic options. I think that's most interesting to me because it imbues magic and monstrosity onto troops that weren't one of those things already. Undead orcs or skaven were monsters to begin with, while elves and dwarves (I feel silly writing "dwarfs" (if GW wants to use "dwarfs," why not "elfs" as well?)) are already fantastical creatures in their pre-dead state. Also, I like poofy sleeves.

There is also the one by Enigma: Link

Toktien, also by Enigma, could be used too: Link

My vote ultimately went to lizardmen--the thought of one of those crazy dinosaur models with the big jewel on it being infused with evil necromantic magic is just too cool--but I agree with Von Calyptra. I'd say that the Empire and Bretonnians could work precisely because they're such a reserved race (compared to the others)... but Empire wins out over Bretonnia because of those crazy sleeves / tights. The coven throne vampire ladies look like they could BE empire, for that matter.

The 5/6th edition Skaven clan rats included rat skulls, so I've already got some skaven skeletons in my VC army- but not sure overall- think I'll go with O&G.
