Ah, at long last, our time has come! It is I, the Legend, the Count, the King, that was thought to have passed so very long ago. In all honesty, I, too, had believed that my time had come those many years ago, but when those horrid beings lifted open my casket on that nightmarish day and I saw the last glimpse of daylight disappear behind the mountain tops… oh the glory!

Those wretched imbeciles ruined my entire scheme! Miss Mina was already in my grasp, but I had to let her free in order for them to believe that they had triumphed over me. ...Ha! Triumph… over me?! Do not fret, the scar, although fainter, still remains, and she will come to me once more when the time is right! That damned Van Helsing should have never interfered!

Nonetheless, we will rise again! The single casket of soil I have left has brought me to a strange and foreign time and place. What has the world come to? It is chaos! I must learn more about this land and this people, and I will have a plan for our uprising. No more will I trust those irrational humans! I foolishly believed that their mortal selves would worship me, but that cursed Renfield has proved enough! Mortal humans are nothing but selfish traitors! Instead, I have reached the core of our community, and will confide with you, and together, we will rise. Together, we will triumph. Together, we will take vengeance! Vengeance on Van Helsing! Vengeance on all humanity!

Got to say man, really didn't think you were real...but I suppose a few decades ago I didn't think vampires were real so what do I know?

Anyway the name's Aiden and a vamp too, obviously. After this point I'll be going by my online handle.

My word of warning? Watch out for surveillance. It would only take one human to catch you on video and BAM! You're up on youtube and the whole world knows that we exist.

Anyway it's cool to hear something from you...I'm betting things are about to get interesting.

Mobile media is everywhere, and all the kids have mobile phones with cameras, as do most of the adults!

Terra, Aiden, Marcus, it is a pleasure, and thank you for your warnings. Guns, those wretched devices, I have seen one from that poor shot of a westerner during my time at the Castle. I am sure there have been major advancements in that technology since. It seems technology is everywhere! I must learn more about the capabilities of guns, surveillance, cameras, and whatever this silly “Youtube” calamity is all about. Marcus, do not fret about being exposed! I have stayed hidden and camouflaged, and have only walked in the public areas for minutes at a time. From my observations, the humans nowadays…they all seem to be too concentrated on this hand-held rectangular technology to even catch a glimpse of me. It must be some sort of telephone, since I have seen some try to talk into them. They keep tapping around those things with their fingers, but I do not yet understand that. Regardless, it is to my advantage, and no one will be aware of my presence. The buildings, too, and the lights! There are lights everywhere in the night! The nights are as bright as day! These despicable humans never want to sleep! Lights of golden arches, lights of the strange, fast, and reckless carriages! Yes, these will be an obstacle. But of course, you should all also know of our wondrous ability to adapt. I have done it before at the Castle; I will do it again now…

For the time being, I have temporarily found refuge in a funeral home, and become acquainted with the mortician there, Mr. Douglas Mors. From him, I have found that my casket has brought me, unfortunately, to the so dreaded Western lands, to a place called “Texas.” He has let me use his “laptop” and told me much about this “Internet” technology, and it is in this that I am writing to you all now. He is the most hospitable human I have met in all these centuries, and he has not found me strange at all. Rather, I believe his appearance very much resembles mine. He has even allowed me to assist him in his work. There is much information to be obtained from him, and he will be of much use to me. Indeed, I have seen a body with gun wounds, and although the bullet was small, it was truly lethal. We must avoid those at all costs.

On another note, I have seen myself with what Mr. Mors calls a “web camera” or “webcam” or whatever it was that he had said it was. The technology can, in fact, capture my image, as you have warned me about! It is fortunate that I have found that out before it would become truly dangerous. Nonetheless, I have seen the wrinkles on my face. It has aged, and I must replenish and feed. The blood from the corpses is not enough… I must find another way, but slowly, so the mortician does not gain suspicion. Once he does, if he does, I suppose I will have to do away with him and take his place…

For now my friends, rest, replenish. I shall speak with you again soon…

Well Drac, if you're hungry for fresh meat you could try going to a nightclub. I have found those places to be filled with fools , often having their wits adled with whaever booze or drugs they've been throwing down their throats.
Just remember to disguise the killing, I find tearing the throat up and enough wounds to explain the blood loss works wonders, just target the scum from the slums, no one looks to closely at a dead gang member.

Anyway gotta keep it short, got some data "security" work going.

Indeed, nightclubs are quite the feeding ground. In fact, it seems as if I did those humans some justice in their society. Ha! Those ungrateful fools… Would it not be grand for the both of us that they provide us with the blood of those they deem criminals? Such an ideal society that would be, but of course, there is no such thing. It is as impossible as it is nonsense. Two different species cannot coexist forever. It is inevitable that one side must rise in power and dominate while the other becomes an inferior kind. We are the dominant ones, and we will triumph over them in time.

I have been busy indulging myself in research and formulating plans. I find today’s society quite bizarre, yet interesting. There are a few new developments in the human world that may be to our advantage. For the time being, I have a few obstacles to overcome, and I ask of you two favors. First, I will need my records rewritten, a different background, one more fit for these modern times, not too extravagant, but not too meek. Second, I will need funds, quite a bit of it, it seems. There has been much inflation since my time, and I will need a basis from which I can invest in my plans.

I will, of course, tell you of my plans when the time arrives, but much research is still to be done. Patience, my friends, is key. Remember that we have all eternity in our hands… We must be careful, meticulous, and decisive, and when we do strike, we will knock down all of humankind with one flick of our finger.

Well when it comes to rewriting records, I know a guy. Based in China, does all the best paperwork for smuggling and so on. Also handy for when one of my victims ends up being someone outside a gang: get a few documents suggesting they're someone else and the police in the favellas don't double check.

He doesn't ask questions, and he's got some of the best forging I've ever seen. Forwarding his email address to you now, Drac.

As for funds, no can do. You'll have to find some other way of paying, 'cos I'm not a rich guy like some of the more developed vampires.

I agree with Terra on this one, go with a professional for creating your background or that of others. Personally it's not my area of speciality, my skills are more useful when one of our kind screws up but an entire persona is something else.

I'm sure the right guy could whip up something thorough and believable. You could pass of riches as some sort of inheritance, old money and such so it's not linked to modern businesses, the source isn't easily traceable etc.

As to where you'd actually GET those riches, I have no idea...if I did I would have been a billionaire long ago. (Well maybe not but still.)

What about using your name in the circles of our kind? I've never heard of any as old as Dracula himself! But I know a few rich guys who have been around since the Victorian age. Perhaps you could gather financial suppose in that fashion? If you can find a physically old looking vampire to ally with then he could even act as a distance relative.

I'm sure you'll think of something.

Terra, the forger has done magnificent work! He has placed me in a position that I believe will be of much use, if I act carefully. My newfound façade is as a 42-year-old established forensic pathologist who has studied in the renowned medical institutions of Europe. I have traveled worldwide, and have come to Texas to work with other international experts and conduct research. I am currently working with the small funeral home business of Mr. Douglas Mors and studying corpses. This is the background story that has brought me here today.

I apologize for my delayed response, but it seems that my occupation is of demand here, with all of these deaths and murders occurring, and I have been doing lousy human work these few weeks past. However, it is all for a purpose. Since I did not receive sufficient funds, I have found another method to infiltrate. It will be slower, but perhaps offers several more advantages that I had not previously foreseen.

As a forensic pathologist, all that is required of me is to report on cause of death. With a bit of evidence shown here and there, these humans will believe anything! Because of this, it has become much easier for me to feed, but of course, I am not indulging myself. I have gained much strength, and my face reveals it. Dr. Mors is convinced that I have received some sort of surgery that I do not yet understand of.

This is just the beginning. You should all know of our abilities to influence nature’s course. Although it will be draining, this is what you all shall do in the following days and weeks: keep the weather cold for a day or two. Let nature run its course for the following few days. Do it again. Keep it irregular. Why? To make humans ill…

Okay, Drac, I'm glad my contact helped you out, but are you aware of the difficulties of weather manipulation in the tropics? On top of that, getting humans ill is the last thing I want to do. I've been cultivating the gangs in Rio since my turning, and I don't fancy having all that work put down the drain because of health officials calling down a quarantine.

If you're really insistent on taking control, I suggest you read up on today's vampires and politics proper. Brazil is practically vampire free, what with the legacy of the various ancient South American empires coming to light...

Are you suggesting, then, that you do not desire to rise among these incompetent humans? Are you satisfied living among them, forming these “gangs” and keeping them live and well? Do you have no interest in alliancing with your own species and taking control? I suppose I have spent too long living under disguises and playing mindless games to lure my victims. It is time that we need to rise and live freely as the beings we are and feed freely. Do you not agree? Call it old age or what you will, but tired am I of hiding and seclusion among these kinds. Even if you are no longer interested in my prospect, I must rise slowly into a power of position and subtly change the ways of society in our favor – ways that will make our abilities and characteristics a “normality” to humans, ways that we will have a constant supply of blood of which to feed. We will dominate without their even realizing it! I have recently come across quite a discovery. Some of these humans are mad enough to simply give away their blood! I am in need of a method to infiltrate such institutions…

Drac, you need to look up some figures. There are now over seven billion humans while the vampire community is at an all time low.
If it were feasible to control, I'd be in two minds about it. There's enough nutjobs out there that a few of them find and kill vampires every so often, and on top of that there are other hidden threats like the Others and cults.

Blood banks, however, are a vampire's metaphorical life saver. Nearly every vampire has a blood bank they can frequent, so scout around for other vampires in your vicinity who'll have a way in.

There's also the fact that I can't say I've met very many of our kind that have lived to an impressive age, most vamps I meet are only a few decades old.

Perhaps I'm missing the higher circles of ancient vampire society or perhaps our kind simply don't survive very long?

My point is that it's far more common to see young so called "Immortals" filled with arrogance at their power but displaying very little aside from the usual heightened strength, speed and endurance, untutored in our ways with all the weaknesses that our kind share which humanity can exploit.

We're in no condition to rule Drac, we're fragmented...solitary predators...not Kings of the Earth. Even were we natural Lords, the world has changed...rulers of that sort isn't something society would accept. Even if we could organise ourselves, well manipulating from the shadows would be the best we could hope for.

As for Blood Banks, it's worth having a check around for local vampires, sometimes you'll find they have a human associate inside to offer their services to those in need.
