Crown of Command refusing a challenge

If the unit I'm fighting against refuses a challenge, and I send the Crown of Command wearer to the back rank, does the unit still keep the Stubborn rule?

Don't have rulebook in front of me, but I believe that a unit can't use the LD of character who has refused a challenge (who follows a coward?). If that's correctly remembered then the crown won't work either

It is true that the unit cannot use the Ld of characters who has refused a challenge, but why would that effect the Crown of Command? It's an item than confers a special rule to the wearer and his unit, not a Ld bonus.

So I would say yes, the unit would still be stubborn.

Soooo... I've learned that if the CoC wearer issues a challenge (which may never happen), forego blending with your VL for a round and whoop up on this guy (no unit champ for him, throw him against your unit's baddest character), bc CR won't matter anyway until he's gone.

Or, if he's the only character left in the unit, DO NOT challenge. He'll refuse and go safely to the back rank keeping the unit Stubborn.

It's also worth saying that aside from Hell Heart holders, CoC wearers should be priority #1 with death sniping
