So I have recently moved to South Carolina and as luck would have it my local store is hosting a Feast of blades tournament I am thinking of taking chaos space marines with no allies... Now here is my list, may have some point costs wrong because I'm running straight from memory but I will be getting my codex Thursday (when the dang moving truck gets here!) :mad2:

The list I am going for is a all comers list because as I haven't been here for long I have no idea what I'm going to be going up against, the biggest problems I can see me running into are match ups with guard and Necrons and my lack of anti air craft capability.

Chaos space marines 2000 points
HQ 345
Daemon prince 185
MoT, Wings, doom bolt, warp time (telepathy)

Daemon prince 160
MoN, Wings, Doom bolt (pyromancy)

5 terminators 240
4 Power fists, 1 power axe
Dedicated transport: Chaos Land raider XXX

Troops 620 + XXX
7 plague marines 221
2 melta guns, Champion, power fist
Dedicated transport: rhino XXX

7 plague marines 191
2 plasma guns
Dedicated transport: rhino XXX

8 khorne berserkers 208
Champion, power fist

Heavy support 135 + XXX

Land raider XXX

Defiler XXX
Reaper auto cannon, 3 DCCW

5 havocs 135
3 missile launchers

2000 points

So that’s my list Comments and Criticism welcome.
Oh and btw the only models I pretty much do not have are obliterators, and bikes

I'd take the champion off of the plagues, you don't want them in combat as it is. use the points for a 4th heavy weapon on your havocs. Autocannons are nice on them. Also remember that according to the faq as it stands, CSM princes with wings are jump creatures, not flying.

Thanks for the tips! Did not know that about marine daemon princes, that does change a lot but I guess its back to using them the way I did in 5th

So I will take the champion off the plague marine squad and add another havoc and missile launcher

As for the auto cannons on the Havocs I have been told they are very good but I do not have the models and I do prefer having the versatility of missile launchers

the list as it is now....

If you're only going to swap out the Psychic powers for BRB ones, buy the cheapest ones there. It's hardly cheesy; why pay a premium for a power you're not even going to use, when other races don't pay a penny?

I think you've done that already, but I can't remember if Warptime is the cheapest or 2nd cheapest. Doesn't matter hugely but might free you some points.

I used to run very different lists so there's not much I can say without radically changing the list. (Lashprince, Obliterators using Plasma Cannons, Vindicators... essentially as many pie-plates as possible to milk the use of the Lash). I'd say it looks strong; two Land Raiders should give pause to your enemy anyway.

If you're worried about anti-air, though, just take an Aegis Defence Line with a Quad Gun. They take down aircraft very reliably.

To be fair, 4 twin linked lascannon shots is likely to get at least one, probably even 2 hits through on fliers.

Thanks for the tip Darvaleth, I am pretty sure warp time is the cheapest after doom bolt but I won't be able to check until tomorrow.

As for the defense line, it’s funny that you mention that because yesterday I was looking around my store to buy one but they had none left in stock.

Zanos I too agree that 4 twin linked lascannon shots should be able to take down a flyer (but alas the dice gods they are fickle) and now with the new rules changes to chaos land raiders they are a little more viable because we can snap shot if we move 12" and against flyers we have to snap shot anyways, so I can rush up to drop their cargo and still try to take out those pesky flyers with my land raiders! xD

Edit: as well i may post a battle report about the tournament on Sunday or whenever i have time but thank you for all the help! xD

Missiles are only versatile if you face horde armied, against power armour they wont do much, while autocannons are better at killing tanks, power armour and monstrous creatures. As most armies have power armour and all have tanks or MCs, autocannons are actually more versatile. Id get the new powers, telepathy powers are way better than warp time and doombolt.

Very much untrue. Multiple frag missiles are better than autocannons against large-ish concentrations of MEQ or TEQ. Autocannons are only better when there are a very small number of models standing by themselves. If you can't ignore their armor saves then simply slap them with a lot of saves. As for monstrous creatures, krak missiles are AP3, and that makes all the difference because most of them are T6 with a 3+ armor save.

.... yes, and that about describes most power armoured units, especially if you are facing grey knights.

edit: if the marine player knows what he is doing, your only going to be able to cover 2 or 3 marines with the template on average. Also, chaos autocannons are TWIN LINKED. 2 s7 ap4 shots with re-rolls is better than a single template hitting 3 with str 4 ap6. Combine that with the fact that against tanks 2 re-rollable s7 shots are much better than a single s8 krak shot, and the autocannon is more useful overall.

Autocannons are generally seen as better in 6th due to hull points, as they have an easier time stripping them off, yet kill them just as much on a penetrate as missiles will. They're also better against anything with a 2+ save.

I think I'll take back what I said that. The reason being the changes to the vehicle disembarkation rules. In 5ed disembarking from a vehicle to shoot guaranteed that your squad would be clumped up; perfect for some template loving. But that's no longer true in 6ed. Now that the most common instances of a squad being clustered together have been removed, small blast templates may not even be that effective at killing any kind of infantry any more.

Think you've got a bit of a misconception here. Only Reaper autocannons are twin-linked, but not all Chaos autocannons are Reaper autocannons. The autocannons that Havocs get are not Reaper autocannons, in other words they don't get the twin-linked kind.

hmm maybe it's about time I go buy some havocs with auto cannons :D so the tournament went well, came 8th out of 12 so I did alright, a lot more competitive then I’m use to so it was a learning experience :P next time I do a tournament with my chaos marines I will be dropping the land raiders, to much of a point sink now for something that can be glanced to death.

I will hopefully be posting battle reports today, or tomorrow or sometime...

Thanks to everyone for the help with my army list!

Yeah, forgot that the old chaos book is out of date with the fluff (more recent publications such as black crusade feature havocs wielding reaper autocannons).

Still, my other points still stand.
