I’m going to a big RTT at WarGamesCon in June 2023 with some buddies. It’s called Chaos in Tejas. It’s 2500 points with some rules changes and special scenarios.

I have been playing with a list built around a blender lord in a unit of black knights and some skeletons supporting. It’s been hit and miss. Mostly I’m feeling rusty getting back into the game.

This is going to be my record of my preparations for the event.

Here is what I’m looking at now. C&C welcome:

My boys with my list above. This includes some extra skeletons and zombies for summoning.

Hey I just saw you're on here too: good game! We played a mirror matchup at this tournament and he won handily through great control of the objectives among other things. I'm still a new player but I learned a lot from all my opponents. People were saying it's unfortunate the only two Vampire players got matched up, but I count myself lucky for getting to learn from a veteran, and he was very sportsmanlike (even won the sportsmanship award I think!) I tip my batcap to you.

Yeah. So super late update. I went 2-1 in the tourney. We had 18 players; which was awesome. The prizes were great including Sigmar’s warhammer Ghal Maraz.

I ended up maxing the painting rubric, but lost best painted to my buddy Andrew’s dwarfs. They were really well done and had a great display board made by our recently deceased friend Viet. RIP. I was probably the third or fourth best painted there. There was a Bretonnian army… 👌

The missions were very objective-based. In some, that was really all that mattered to get the win.

Game 1: I played an inexperienced Empire player. He had a lot of cavalry and I was just able to sit in the middle with my buffed up zombie unit for too many turns for him to get involved. He also made some mistakes in how he places his two big cavalry units that made it difficult for him to maneuver. The foot vampire showed he can grind tough things by taking down a steam tank over a few turns. The cursed book did great.

Game 2: I played Spottswood in the mirror. It really came down to me having a combat vampire lord and him having a casting vampire lord. Also, cursed book. In the end, my black knight bus with lord crashed into his black knight bus with lord that was double-debuffed with cursed book (-1S from prior turn, -1S -1T from that turn). After that, I had the sole objective in the middle and there was little he could do.

Game 3: I played my buddy David’s HE’s. The mission was all about killing with bonus for characters, characters in challenges, and most importantly, monsters. Also, it was the random deployment and most of my army started off the table. It was over before it started. He was able to use flaming magic and bolt throwers to waste my two varghulfs. Then he just ran away for a guaranteed win. Barely anything on the table died. We’ve played many times and it’s a difficult game for me if I can’t get into him.

I had a great time. Everyone was awesome. The armies were well painted. I like this army and really like the cursed book.

From the tourney and games after I learned the value of zombies and the relative uselessness of sword and board grave guard. Given that, I am going to go more into zombies. Here’s my more Hammer & Anvil version of my army. Now it should be much better at taking up space and growing in size. Depending how it goes, I may end up dropping the skeletons all together in favor of a full wall of zombies. I’m not sure yet.
